People on r/Xbox report being able to play online without Gold

We are back boyz! Feels like ancient history when PS3 had free online and then switched to payed for PS4 and everybody said that free on-line is never coming back. Absolutely ecstatic news, man! I'm sure Microsoft has a plan (taking bigger cuts off of micro-transactions, bigger focus on game pass etc.) but I couldn't be happier. Now if only Sony did the same thing, that would be legendary.

If it's genuine I'm actually quite impressed.

Weeks of naysayers and arguing over what this means and what that means, followed by a slow burn of excitement when it just disappears and people can't quite believe it. Give this an hour or two, it'll be everywhere.

Follow up with an official announcement as the Americans are waking up - that's Microsoft's biggest market anyway.

Better than a press release regurgitated on IGN.
 
I'm thinking this is some kind of mistake. Did they really just deny that changes to Gold were being made YESTERDAY, and today online play is free? I can already see the memes.

Did they specify anything about a cost? Couldn't it just mean no changes to how their services or how they plan to keep improving it etc. Yeah, memes making fun of free online. Ok. Lol

I was joking about the memes regarding their (perceived) indecisiveness. Free multi-player would definitely be great.

I'll wait for an initial announcement. LOL (already have a little more than year left on GPU, so doesn't change much for me to begin with).
 
Maybe it's only timed but If this is true, then it seems XBOX is the new PS3. While Sony is doing their best to promote their anti customer BS, MS is bringing back free online, like it should be.
 
Will be interesting to see the SDFs approach here.
I mean, Gamepass was anti developer and was going to reduce the amount of quality games being produced. I wonder how this decision is going to adversely affect the gaming industry.
 
Btw, if this turns out to be it, we're posting in an absolutely legendary moment.

i can see the memes if this turns out to be all a false flag and so many of u in here are already jumping the gun as if it's permanent
 
More likely a free weekend or a glitch. They wouldn't make multiplayer free without a huge announcement first, especially after their last statement.

Xbox 360 UK Live account - Can't play online. Glitch it's tits off signing me in and out and even connecting to live.

I can already taste the concern trolling from the people that 'i just bought 3 months of Live yesterday, fucking Microsoft' incoming. I expect all the forum radicals to suddenly have an Xbox as a second console. :messenger_tears_of_joy:

I feel like this has gotta be some kind of mistake. Why would they do this and not officially announce it? It would be nothing but good press.

Didn't MS announce 90+m active Xbox Live users a few weeks ago?
Would be a very bold move to cut off that revenue.

It should get converted into GamePass credits so you shouldn't have anything to worry about here.

Yea casually rolling out free online when you're still selling 1 & 3 month subscriptions to play online is a great idea...

No reputable business operates like that lmao.
 
No Gold here (expired back in May). Just tried out Battlefield 1 and IT WORKS! I have no Game Pass either.

Holy shit, if this isn't a glitch, this is ENORMOUS news. Man, I so hope free online play is back!
