NBA2K Announces You’ll Be Able to Play as Both Men and Women on the Same Court

That's a good point.

However are you 100% sure they will be forced to play against a mixed team of players?

Yes. Unless of course you can find confirmation that players can select to only be matched with teams that have NBA players.

Also, would it even matter?

If you're an NBA fan and have no interest in the WNBA, or if you want a realistic match, then yes, it would matter.

Obviously if you just play offline career mode then it won't matter at all.

Very small world.

Moved to Jasper maybe 30 years ago and still spend my summers here

I too remember the Hard Rain filming :)
I moved away nearly 20 years ago, but still have family there. Was in town last week to help the mother in law do some landscaping, had to have some Los Bravos afterwards, of course. That town needs a Barcade! They briefly had one (kinda) before I moved away, but I'm unsure of how the nightlife is around there these days.

We enjoy eating there as well, we live maybe 5 minutes South of Los Bravos :)

You can't force people into enjoying what they don't like.

In the end, being the fan of a sport means you enjoy watching the sport. If there is no enjoyment then you can't be a fan. There is NO way to use logic here; this is one of those cases where emotions matter. What you feel is what matters in entertainment, and if you don't feel it you wouldn't get involved. Just like how you can't force someone to enjoy music they don't like.
I don't believe anyone is forcing anyone to use and "enjoy" this feature. I dabble in NBA2k games, but I only buy the versions that have been superseded and therefor really cheap. So when I play this version in a year or two, I probably won't interact with this feature, but the fact that it is there isn't going to take away from me interacting with the features I do enjoy.

Yeah, true. However, I'm still not convinced you'll be forced to play against a mixed team.
Then it wouldn't bother me one bit. Just a funny, if unfathomable decision that's all, but if you can't avoid this fantasy stuff then 2k no question just killed a game mode.

ChatGPT says there have been around 38 dunks in the WNBAs 30 year history.

Roughly 28 of them come from Brittney Griner who is 6'9" and has a 7'3" wingspan. Here is Brittney Griner showing ESPN cameras her dunking ability...

When you hang on the rim after a successful dunk, it's to communicate to those in attendance that you're a beast. Or (more rare) to protect a player under you. I'm pretty sure her 3rd attempt was successful but was edited out for obvious reason.

The more you know.

I would bet massive amounts of money the very worst player in the NBA would cook the very best WNBA player and it would not be close

Of course they would. There is no gender rule in the NBA. If there were a woman good enough to be in the NBA, she'd be in the NBA.

Very true.

I'm hoping (suspecting) that you will be able to set the filters accordingly.

Considering how much "accidental sex" there is on those games, they seem to be reaching for that goober audience.

Is this really worth being outraged about? Seems like it's only for people who want it. If some 13 year old girl wants to put Caitlin Clark into the NBa games and dominate, why not let her? It's a video game.

This isn't a dragon age situation or a historical strategy game forcing female Roman generals into the game. Not close.

I hope this was sarcasm...?
Bottom of the paragraph points to it, but just want to be sure.

I'm confused, whats the problem here?

Wouldn't this be for the online games where people can make their own character? I mean other than selecting a "female" body type does anything actually affect the stats or performance in the game?

More than likely no? It would literally just be like a "player model" wouldn't it?

i mean if you make a 5'9" female player, wouldn't the character perform like any other 5' 9" man you made anyways?
It's not like selecting a female character adds like -30% dunking ability but 5% speed. Is there a larger salary cap on your team if you have a female player? like does she cost 25% less on the payroll?

If nothing like this affects the selection then why does anyone even care - this is just build your own character with some option for M/F toggle. Y'all will build some ugly ass avatars anyways lol.

Its not like regular season mode that suddenly Caitlyn Clark shows up on the Lakers roster. Like even in the 3s clip its shaq and angel reese- is this some like All Star Game-mode?
Don't you control who gets traded and signed in the story mode ?

"Who did this? This is awful.... But LeBron's PR team has got to get rid of this. I don't care if it is a video game. Look at his arms! Not the King! Come on, man, you can't do that to Bron. Don't do that,"

When even a WNBA player saying this is terrible you know you fuck up.

She played one season and batted .128
So she's batting half that of the other players in a league where the Fresh Prince is king

I don't know anything about baseball so can someone tell me how efficient that makes her please, on a scale that goes from stunning to brave ?

Baseball has 5 levels of Minor Leagues in Rookie, Single A, High A, Double A and Triple A and if you are good enough to progress through those then you make the MLB which is just the best of the best in the world which is the stat you linked

The team she batted half of an MLB average is considered a summer collegiate baseball team and is basically players hoping someday to make any of the actual MLB leagues

So just my 2 cents on the scale of stunning to brave it falls into the publicity stunt category for someone that should have never been on a roster even at this level

Again, for those still arguing that men are better than women at basketball, baseball etc. you're utterly missing the point for their inclusion.
These games are games, they're not sims whether you want them to be or not.

No one is missing the point. The point sucks and makes the games into somewhat of a joke. Whether you want to admit it or not it's retarded to invest money into team building mode to watch your best cards get dunked on by lady midgets

Sounds like fun to me, I might buy it now.

Ah, not real midgets, in reality they're taller than you? You've ruined it now.

Go buy it. You really should. Stand up for your principals. Don't be one of those fake people who wants to see someone else's stuff ruined for a good cause but not invest directly. Or the people always moving if their guy loses an election.

Then why preach against people who do with comments like they're missing the point?
Because they're missing the reason for the inclusion and keep going on that women are so shit at sports.
They didn't force women into everything, the worst that can possibly happen is that you might, in one mode, come up against a women in one team.
Was it an incredibly accurate sim in every way before?
Has the game even released to see exactly how it plays?

Blah blah blah. You just want to push an agenda. But keep pretending you know what's best for people when it comes to games you don't play. Stand tall comrade.

Yep, my evil agenda is chilling out about inclusion of minorities and encouraging female participation in sport.
Evil incarnate.
Nice of you to answer my questions/points with "blah blah".
I thought you were someone that I could have a civil discussion from different point of views.
Ah well.

I mean we saw a clip of Caitlin Clark dunking on Lebron James head and standing over his dead body taunting him

We don't need the game to release and see how it plays

We aren't the ones missing the point here especially from someone who admittedly doesn't stick with sports games where many of us actually do

Sounds like the kind of thing Caitlin Clark fans (of which there are many) would love.
Cool.

Actual fans would know better
I think she's one of the greatest things to happen to basketball across the board. The interest she generated for college, and the interest she generates for a struggling league are phenomenal. And she will be a hero to generations of kids to come, motivating a lot of little girls to pick up a ball and play. She deserves nothing but respect and admiration IMO.

But that said, she shouldn't be dunking on Yao Ming in 2k. An arcade game sure.

Have seen her play a few times even in college when they played IU and she is amazing and honestly if those clips would have had her maybe outshooting someone like Steph Curry (women are amazing shooters) I would be all on board

Dunking on Lebron?

I'm going to go out on a limb and predict that maybe less than 5% of people in this thread actually play 2k. This WNBA inclusion is near the bottom of the list in terms of complaints and is successfully steering the conversation away from the game's actual problems.

Everyone I know personally who plays this game constantly complains about it nonstop because either the balancing is broken, the stats are broken, the park is broken, or because the VC prices are too outrageous, yet they still play it.

I've seen this when I used to play MMOs and League of Legends. It's the equivalent of someone being addicted to a game yet telling others to stay the hell away from it (because it's too late for them already).

2k doesn't exclusively own the NBA license, but every other top tier developer and publisher just handed it to them on a silver platter to dominate, while the rest of us have to sit and wait years for either the next NBA Jam spiritual successor or the next NBA Street spiritual successor to have something that actually feels fun and rewarding to play.

All of this is true but totally not what the thread was started over

That's fair, I guess I just find it a bit annoying that this is the topic that's making other gamers finally pay attention to NBA 2k.

This franchise has been long overdue for negative attention and people taking a real hard look at how devious it really is under the hood.
