Perfect Dark Zero GameSpot review

I'd rather have a game with a crappy story than a game with a good story and shitty conclusion (Halo 2).

hasnt one of the complaints been that the ending in this game is hilariously bad

I can not believe these are the same game:

From all the impressions I'm hearing of the game. It sounds as though Rare wasn't given enough time to polish the game.

It seems that they've been spending the time since E3 beefing up the graphics one level at a time, and it looks as though they didn't have the time to polish the later levels.

FPS games get attention cause they're always the bleeding edge of technology.
Exactly. They get praised as tech demos, yet graded as games. The same damn gamers/reviewers that bitch and moan about diminishing returns and gameplay over visuals in other genres completely turn the fence and love all over this stale genre.

And 'bleeding edge of technology'? You act like the genre is so far ahead of others it's significant, which just isn't true. Jak & Daxter, MGS, Zelda: Wind Waker, Gran Turismo, Splinter Cell, Final Fantasy X, Shadow of the Collossus; these are just a handful of some of the most impressive technical achievements of the past few years. Sure, they're are more FPS' than any other genre, but not by such leaps and bounds as you claim.

At it's core it's still a First Person Shooter though so what exactly do you expect as far as innovation?
How about a half decent story for starters, with decent characters? Or how about an original setting? Or how about instead of continually pumping out finer textures and higher poly counts, we get a near complete level of interactivity with the environments (HL2 was a start, but one game in 5 years?).

I just can't understand how difficult it is to just copy Halo's controls. Why break what did not need fixing, Rare? Infinity Ward got it right with a PC port. Why couldn't you?

Maybe cause they weren't aiming for Halo controls.

After 3 consoles and 4 or 5 years of development, you have had plenty of time. Poor planning is the problem at Rare. Of course it isn't all their fault, being sold, X360 coming out sooner than some would expect, etc. But at this point the not enough time excuse can only be used like, "not enough time due to our shitty planning" Sounds like the game turned out good anyways though.

People in this thread are talking like the game got a 5.0, and not a 9.0. And like impressions have been really negative, when they've been mostly positive.

I have a shrink-wrapped copy of PDZ waiting for me when I get home. Now I just have to survive work for another 7 hours.

Actually, if you read the other thread, the game has been developed solidly for two years.

At certain points during the training mission I noticed a line in the middle of the screen. vsynch tearing? (i think thats what it is called) I am using a sony 30 inch xs955. So far I am loving it just like the old Perfect dark.

Man I wanna play this game, it looks great. But other than this, PGR3 and COD2(which I can play on my PC), there isn't much else I'm interested in for the 360 and shelling out more than $400 just for those games isn't so easy.

Just played my first go. Online co-op.

The controls DO take a minute or two to get used to. My friend and I were a little confused with the controls at first, I think. We adjusted the sensitivity and we have been good since then.

The game is AWESOME. I am in love with it. We just played to the rooftops level...which is so fun to play. The game is not perfect, but it's certainly not "meh." My friend is pretty quiet and to have him basically yelling over the communicator in excitement showed me that the game is pretty much everything I could hope for.
