I'm having real trouble felling Shadow Yukiko. I'm level 11-ish, using the standard Persona's at present.

My current tactic is;

Yoksuke: Healing up and using the Persona physical attack (the one that uses HP)
Main Dude: Persona physical attack
Chie: Icing the puppet thing then kicking Yukiko...

...I keep getting fucked.

What am I doing wrong?

Wow, you should have level'd more and fused better personas. I think the level for shadow Yukiko is 15/16. Just let her die and have Igor knock you back a week.

Get a persona with Red Wall to stop Chie being knocked down by her weakness to fire, not absolutely necessary but it does help.

Will that effect the story negatively other than losing a little progress? All this stuff is super unclear.

No. You just rewind a week before the victim died. Plot wise, nothing actually changes.

Okay. It's this kind of thing that reminds me why I dropped this genre, so bloody confusing :lol

I'll give the boss another few tries first, I seem to be able to almost get 'er done before something terribly unfortunate happens and my party gets wiped

Try making Senri for the main character (naturally Null to Fire). You can get stuff like Red Wall, Resist Physical, and Bufu on her.

What's the date in the game? Early on in the game, the fusion forecast usually has one special day before the end of a dungeon where you can make something to use on the boss/protect against what the boss can do. For this dungeon, that is:

4/28-Create Berith (Hanged 15), Mabufu added.

What I'd do is make Senri (Forneus + Orobas is one combo) so the main guy won't get nuked by the fire stuff. I'd get Bufu and Resist Physical myself, but what you put on her is up to you. If you want Chie to survive, you may want to just have her cast Bufu on the prince, then defend, or take the risk of doing another attack. Once the boss starts doing 'Burn to Ashes' though, either let Chie die or just have her defend continuously.

If you make Senri with Resist Physical, then you mainly only really have to worry about the main character dying from the fear/strong phys followup combo, which won't happen as often if you dizzy the prince, and won't at all once you kill him.

As a personal update, I believe I have found my final Alice build. Hooray for Alice #5.

I flip-flop between Chie and Yukiko as per most appealing personality. They were always in my party. I'm playing through P4 again with the MC, Chie and Yukiko only in the battles. I wanted to increase the difficulty without going all-out with hard mode.

I didn't think you were mad, I just come across as a total nublet is all which is shameful.

So, as an update I have saved Yukiko. I fused my starting Persona and another couple into some Knight Dude on a Horse. He had awesome fire resistance which pretty much just let me brute through it. I'm down a Lightning Persona now, but I added the lightning one to the compendium one level below fusion so I can always buy it back. I probably will as going through dungeons with an incomplete elemental cast seems like a bad idea.

This game is pretty confusing and overwhelming to a JRPG-play-not like myself. Thankfully the story, the presentation, the voice acting and stuff are making me determined to go through it. I can't help but smile while playing it, haven't done that in a long, long time.

I'm quite ashamed I'm so late to to the party on this one

For some people, she's one of, if not the hardest boss in the game. On my current play, she was the trickiest to overcome.

I wonder... Could the poor US sales be thanks to poor release timing? The game came out after Sony had removed backwards compatibility from the Playstation 3, and I noticed it's pretty hard to find in stores (I had to buy it in a Gamestop about an hour or so away from my hometown, as no stores had it to rent or buy locally...)

If your planning on going after the optional boss, you'll probably need to level up on the next dungeon. Once you reach the top, save it and then give him a try but if he 1 hit kills your party then it's not worth fighting at that point. That optional boss was the only one that gave me any trouble.

Your best bet for going after that boss is to fight him after you pass the next dungeon.

Its not poor for Atlus. Everyone liking Atlus games know to buy their games quickly, because they dont tend to print a huge amount of copies. They survive by word of mouth in the press and by fans, cause they are too small to promote it beyond their core fans. Persona 3 got great scores and sold in the same range, so I dont think a small issue like backward compatiblity is the reason why.

The best part was that it happened while they were just grinding the older dungeon and they wouldn't have died if they weren't just rush attacking(rushing prevents your allies from bailing you out)

Buffs and Debuffs are pretty useful in the game..try lowering his attack (Tarunda) while having a Resist Physical persona and the main guy should be pretty good to go. The others..a crapshoot unless you come back at lv15 or higher probably.

I finally have Kanji in my team <3 I'm going to switch up my team this go-around to include Teddie and either Naoto/Chie, since my first time playing I played it pretty conservatively with Kanji, Yukiko, and Yosuke (They're an effective team, dammit).

I desperately want an avatar of Kanji's icon (head/HP/SP, preferably with COMMAND around him and at full health) but all the ones I've found are pixelated as fuck and/or Kanji's icon happens to be the bottom one with a water mark slightly over him, which I'd most likely be too inexperienced to remove in PS And I want to make it so it's just his icon as my avatar--no background, etc.

I'm going to be [even more] selfish and ask...would anyone be willing to make a GIF of Kanji's battle icon with COMMAND going around him? I just love the way it moves.

No, that's perfect! Thanks. I'll just crop it out myself in PS later, but one question if you happen to know: after I crop it out, I save it as a .PNG file, right? For some reason I never seem to be able to get it right whenever I want a "floating" avatar, since it appears with a color when I just want the image itself, so it looks like it's floating...if that makes any sense.

I made an awesome Oni recently:

Fatal End, Counter, Cruel Attack, Atom Smasher, Recarm, Double Fangs, Endure, Resist Physical. Next level he learns Power Charge! He inherited Atom Smasher so he didn't have to learn it, which was awesome. The fact that he has Recarm makes him quite valuable to me.

I got another exams question! I'm a week away from the July exams. To score within the top ten would I need Knowledge Rank 4 or 5? I just leveled up to 4 and I was wondering if I should bother trying to get it to 5 (or if it's even possible; I'm on 07/13 and the exams are on 07/19). Otherwise, I would avoid studying in the library with my S. Links and try to get other stuff done like tend to other S. Links like Hermit. Any help would be immensely appreciated!

I think it's Knowledge 5 to score the top mark? I wonder if it's possible to upgrade your Knowledge by both studying in the afternoon and at night though. I wasn't quite sure what the values were for leveling up your attributes.
