Persona 5 Review Thread

That's a decently written review. I got no beef with it.

I actually wanted to see what they listed as negatives. And I was surprised to learn that I agree with them rather than finding a lot of pointless nitpicking. I suspect a lot of reviewers would also make similar mention of the game's weaknesses, but not necessarily count them against the final score.

It's also worth pointing out that the 5 star system doesn't necessarily mesh well with the 10 point one.

I hope Personna 5 sells well so that Square see that the market is not THAT advert of turn-based rpgs and eventually they try to make a AAA one again. Clearly people still love them. It's a matter of if enough people still do.
I don't normally like turn based 3D games but I'm going to give Persona a shot. I wonder how many people are like me.

Are there any PS3 specific reviews or impressions? I don't have a PS4 and I'm trying to decide if it's still worth getting the last-gen version.

It was originally developed for PS3 and ported up to PS4. I haven't heard anything bad about the PS3 version.

For some reason I thought Press Sneak Fuck, and not Kirk, would write the Kotaku review. What happened there Jace?

It's also worth pointing out that the 5 star system doesn't necessarily mesh well with the 10 point one.

Eh, they do write 7.0 next to the 3.5 stars, so they're participating in a 10 point scale regardless.

Ask me about the moon landing or the temperature at which jet fuel burns. You may be surprised at what you learn.
Just by looking at the Metacritic

Zelda Breath of the Wild: 97
Persona 5: 95
Nier: 89
Dark Souls 3: 89
Nioh: 88
Yakuza 0: 85
Xenoblade Chronicles X: 84
Tales of Berseria: 79

FF XV 81

Final Fantasy has seen the smallest success compared to other Japanese RPG franchises.
It seems they had a reason for asking people whether they would buy persona 5 or FF XV if released at the same date.

Yet FFXV sold more than all of those.

You are posting in a review thread, saying you don't care about reviews.

I think there is a difference between not caring about scores but caring about reviews.
I'm curious about what people write about their experiences with the game I could give 0 twats about what arbitrary number they come up with to sum up a 100+ hour experience(actually any kind of experience).

Okay, first Final Fantasy XV is the best selling game in this list and second: Persona 5 is at 95??? THE DREAM IS ALIVE

Is that supposed to be prompto?

This is the first time in my adult life I've had to look at the new games I want, then look at my money and say "nope, no way." This year is awesome.

If success is limited by metacritic alone then yeah. Otherwise its probably outsold every game in that list and barring zelda and souls, has probably outsold the other 4 combined.

Also, berseria is lower in mc. But i suppose this is where you bring in budget.

Yeah that's a good point, don't get me wrong I am an FF XV fanboy but I can't neglect the change in the reception of these titles.
I like that games like Persona, Nier and Nioh show that people still enjoy such games without trying to appeal to western audiences so much.

Hoping this one will sell well in Europe so Atlus will, for once, translate the game and reach a bigger audience.
Even more now, time has changed since Nocturne.

As someone who is completely burned out on the usual AAA games I play (Ubisoft, shooters etc) I'm looking for a game to play once I finish off Zelda.

This is tempting me but I've never played another game in the series nor many JRPG's. Would that be an issue?

Copies sold /=/ profit.
After all those troubled years of development and with those AAA production values and marketing budget it didn't necessarily make a higher net profit than several games on the list, particularly Dark Souls 3.

Can I start with this or should I really play the vita version of P4G I've had for god knows how long
Persona 5 is completely standalone. You can jump right into it and play P4 or P3 later without problem (besides it being harder to get used to the rougher gameplay in P3/P4 considering how much this game refines it). AFAIR there aren't even any cameos from past games like you had with Persona 4 (some locations and some few minor characters from P3 making a short appearance), just a few references. You miss nothing if you start with this game right away.
