Persona 5 Review Thread

For a waifu game like Persona I would think you'd want to play the game with the voice actor that's billed as the true voice.

NANA MIZUKI is Anne. Hinata from Naruto, Colette from Symphonia, Najimi Ajimu from Medaka Box, etc.

On top of that, Futaba is motherfucking AOI YUUKI of all people. Yes, that one.

Tsuyu from MHA, Tatsumaki from OPM, Madoka, Pascal in Nier: Automata, Tanya in Youjo Senki, among other things. You get the idea.

Not knocking people for playing the game with a dub, but man, I know several people who will watch a show just because Aoi Yuuki is voicing a character in it - having allstar VAs with a big pedigree voicing a cute girl is a big draw.

I appreciate the option but it's literally never been a problem for me in the past games where I actually really loved the dubs.

Ok this will be my first Persona and I'm going almost blind. Just saw a the first trailer a decade ago. Am i doing this right?
Or should i check the previous ones?

Ask me about the moon landing or the temperature at which jet fuel burns. You may be surprised at what you learn.

The less you see, the better. I went into P4G blind and it was all the better for it.

Persona 5 is fine to start with, but if you ever get around to it I recommend the entire seires. P1 is looked down upon but I enjoyed it. Persona 2's duology, Persona 3, and Persona 4 are all absolutely stellar though. Persona 3 is the start of the modern Persona formula, though.

I'm loving what I'm reading in these reviews and I've been eagerly anticipating Persona 5 ever since I beat P4G in spring of 2013, absolutely adoring the game and probably adding it to my top 10 of all time.

However, I'm also taking them with a grain of salt. I bought into the hype for Zelda: BotW about a month ago and was not pleased with that game. It had its moments, but I felt did not deserve the tidal wave of praise it goes.

Cautious optimism is how I will carry myself until I get my Persona 5 on Tuesday.

Watch them win nothing as RDR2 and Uncharted Lost Legacy sweep up everything else xD

I sure hope so. All I see is negativity from my circle, though.

The fact that Tomokazu Sugita and Mamoru Miyano are in the male cast just makes it even more criminal that there's no gay option.

When you've got pikachu as your mascot, you know you've made the right choice. Was surprised how good she is since I've only heard her play Pokemon.

Her role of Chopper in the One Piece anime is pretty stellar. Never really heard her or noticed I was listening to her outside of that and Pokemon though.

Ok thanks for the advice. Will start with P5 and if i become a fan, i'll cehck out the rest

for those wondering is japan devs were lagging behind this gen may I present to you Zelda, persona, and nier. have a nice day.

Do all of these great games have to be so time consuming? I'm 50 hours in on Zelda and am barely scratching the surface. And this game is literally about living a different life,
A double life at that!

Zelda has a history of getting overinflated scores. Wind Waker at 96, Twilight Princess at 95, Skyward Sword at 93 but you'd never believe that with the way some people talk about their flaws.

A quick question. I find TMS better than persona 4 because TMS was giving me time. Persona 4 put you a one year pressure from the beginning.
I don't even know if this was too short or long, but it just piss me off that I cannot play at the speed I want that I quickly stop playing Persona 4 while I've spend more than 80 hours on TMS.

How is Persona 5 in Regards of this? Do you have a time limit?

Pie and Beans

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.
Okay. Okay.

After Persona 5 can... can everybody just cool their shit and stop releasing anything please. ANYTHING. I can't fucking do this. I can't play this many GOTY candidates back to back like I'm fucking dosing on them.

If Persona 5 HADN'T been delayed, I don't know how any of this would have gone down. I haven't even started Nier yet HELP ME

If nothing else, Zelda will ensure one of those three will be a big contender.

But to be honest, short of Red Dead Redemption 2 and Horizon, I think this is going to be a massively Japanese-centric year.

Agreed! Some of the best in the industry right there. Also the fact that Fukuyama Jun is the main character and Sato Rina is Makoto makes this a must in Japanese for me. Would have chosen that anyway, because while the dubs for P3&P4 were pretty fantastic, I always found myself liking the Japanese cast more when watching the related media. I know some people hate the higher pitched voices in anime (Lisa, Kuma and Rise to name a few) but I've been exposed for that stuff for so long it doesn't really bother me at this point haha.

I literally have no idea who any of those people are, nor do I care. I do however know that Cherami Leigh is also A2 in Nier, Carrie Keranan is Sara Valestein in trails of cold steel, Erika Harlacher was Kyoko kirigiri, and Michelle Ruff was Yuki Nagato

You have one month until Prey. If Dishonored 2 is any indication, it will be a phenomenal immersive sim.

Hope to hear her more because she sounds great as morgana. Right amount of attitude but keeping the mascot appeal just right. Don't know why but I'm hoping for tomokazu sugita to play yusuke like Joseph joestar but that seems like a ill fit. I expect ryuji to have the best performance since his Japanese voice actor is consistently great.

So so excited for this game. This and Mario Odyssey are the only games left this year (at least out of the currently announced ones) that I'm absolutely dying to play. Japan has been knocking it out of the park lately and it's good to see P5 is no different.

Throw Bloodborne in there, too. Not one of my tops but I gotta give credit where credit is due. It's captivated a ton of people and is a regular mention in goat conversations nowadays.

Not to sound like one can't exist with the other as it's better for everyone that both western and Japanese games succeed, but I for one am ridiculously happy that Japan is killing it lately as they tend to make the games I enjoy the most.

And she absolutely nails it. Morgana's fucking fantastic.

Yeah man it's unbelievable. The rush I feel during one of the scene towards the end from the performance she gives there. It's not unlike Viggo Mortensen or Bernard Hill when they give their respective rallying cries in the LotR movies it's like you feel the energy from that.

Luckily Persona is my last anticipated purchase. After that, I don't have any big (confirmed) titles to look forward to other than maybe Odyssey and Xenoblade 2. I guess I could check out this RDR2 game... :p
