I disagree that he is the better artist, but I think Soejima is perfect for Persona and Kaneko thought so too. He is off Persona by his own volition, he didn't think his artstyle fit the series anymore and he hand picked Soejima after his work on P2 and Soul Hackers.

Arena and the PSP remakes of P1 and P2 made me realize that Persona loses a lot of its magic for me when Soejima is not the art director. Arena's art direction is all over the place, really. This starts at the recycled portrait art that clashes badly with the newer protraits (even though I can understand why they didn't give every character new portraits). Then there are those horrible menus that lack any of the polish that I expect from a Persona game.

Q has those problems from what I've seen so far as well, but it's not as bad there.

Yeah, he does a lot of one-off promo pieces. He's already done some or PQ as it is.

I'd hate to see him take charge on the franchise though. If Soejima wasn't working on it, my interest would drop tremendously.

Soejima is better at some things, Kaneko is better at others.

I'd consider Soejima the more technically capable and more flexible artist though.

While I do appreciate how Soejima is trying not to draw everyone as part giraffe anymore, I prefer Kaneko's monster designs to Soejima's. Plus the dude made the Devil Trigger forms of Dante and Vergil in DMC 3, and there's no way anyone's topping that.
