NEW FEATURES

PES FullControl (PES FC): Never before has a football game offered such a level of control over the way it is played:

Total Freedom of Control: Pro Evolution Soccer introduced the concept of freedom of movement, the new ‘PES FC’ in PES 2013 goes further with total freedom over ball control.

Dynamic First Touch: PES 2013 introduces subtle ways to receive the ball, from traps, gently lifting it past an attacker to run on to or a variety of other moves. First touch is everything and players can trap the ball using the R2 button, killing the speed of a well-hit pass and bringing it instantly under control, or using the momentum of the pass to turn a defender.

Full Manual Shooting and Full Manual Passing: PES 2013 offers fully manual passing and for the first time ever manual shooting, allowing users to determine the height and power of each. Long low passes can be sent skimming across the pitch, while shooting the user has total control over where the shot is placed. Skill and precision are needed to master these, but passes can be made into open areas, allowing lone strikers to thrive, while offering an unrivalled variety in ways to score.

Dribbling: The
speed with which a player moves with the ball has been slowed in line with real matches, but using R2 allows players to add various styles to their close control. Players can vary the speed of their dribbling, and cushion the ball as they move freely within a 360-degree circle. The new system allows players to knock a ball past a player and collect it, nutmeg them, or hold up play by shielding the ball as team mates find space and make runs.

Full Manual One-Two: Active one-two passes can be made, with the second player being moved in any direction), facilitating various tactical movements.

Response Defending: Countering the attacking options the new dribbling system offers, is a beautifully-balanced defence system. Players can use R2 and X to slow an attack, with a double-tap of the X button prompting a perfectly-timed challenge. Full 360-degree control means that players can check runs and steal the ball from a parallel position, while the individuality element will see world renowned defenders using aerial dominance of physicality to win the ball.

Goalkeepers: Even the game’s ‘keepers benefit from more control, while their distribution is more precise thanks to the addition of a power gauge when they throw the ball, creating opportunities for new, quicker counter attacks.

Player ID: Player ID focuses on the individual elements and movements that each player boasts:

Player Individuality: The very best players in PES 2013 will be instantly recognisable via incredible likeness and signature attributes, skills and tricks that bring them to life. The way they run, turn, trap and move the ball, shape to shoot and even celebrate will be noticeably different during play..

Individuality to Goalkeepers: The individuality of movement has also been extended to between the posts. Goal keeping has been totally invigorated via new animations and play styles. New varieties of saves and reactions have been added to ensure the game’s ‘keepers are in line with the efforts of real shot stoppers. This level of realism also extends to the game’s top-rated goal keepers, with their moves to close attacks down, fling themselves to tip a shot past the post, and in-goal acrobatics benefiting from all new animations and AI.

ProActive AI: ProActive AI unites the control and realism, with players that will respond and find space as befits those at the top of their game:

Balance of Play: The development team has worked closely with the PES fan base to eradicate any illogical elements to the way players move and run in PES 2013, with the ‘ProActive AI’ system enhancing the speed and balance resulting in a more realistic game experience.

Tactical Precision: The balance of play has also been enhanced in the play between defences and the front line, with greater organisation as the teams track back or pelt forward, setting a harder to beat defensive line, teams adjusting faster to ball gain or loss, allowing for quicker counters.

Enhanced Goalkeepers: Improvements to the goal keepers was voted the key advancement football fans wanted to see in PES 2013, and the team has worked hard with real keepers to ensure the AI decision process has been vastly improved. Keepers now espond with better reactions, clear their lines more effectively and push the ball savely out of play rather than into dangerous areas.

REVIEWS:

CVG 9.1 / 10

“Tweaked in all the right places, 2013 is the finest PES of the generation, delightfully recreating the ebb and flow of the modern game.”

IGN 8.5 / 10

“Players who are prepared to explore the depth of PES 2013′s control system will truly come to love this game.”

OPM 8 / 10

“PES 2013 marks the biggest step forward for the series on PS3.

TheSixthAxis 9 / 10

“PES 2013 has made huge strides forward in how it plays over last year’s game. It’s no longer a case of living with the slight, niggling issues with the gameplay, animations and fluidity of it all so that you have the astonishing depth of the Master League mode.”

CLOSING COMMENT:

BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYEEEEEEEEEEEEERN

Renting this on Friday I think, will give a week and FIFA a week too to decide which one is best this year, because I really like both demos...

FIFA and PES are growing further apart, but not in terms of quality.

For me, whilst they're both Football games, they play so differently that they are beginning to stop warranting the constant comparison.

Also, plug - our review. If this isn't cool, let me know and I'll remove it :)

Do they usually do day one patches? Cause the data is hilarious on the retail product and not just that the stats are way off.

Absalonsen who only made 9 appearances for Copenhagen over a whole season (and is now sold to shit Danish team), his rating is :

And he still plays for us according to the game.

Then we got Nicolai Jørgensen, possible the best Copenhagen player

Also Dame N'Doye and Peter Larsson are still at Copenhagen according to the game. Neither Vetokele or Gislason in in the Copenhagen squad.

Not sure if it's day one, but they definitely will release updated squads and stats.

Wake up, everyone! With PES 2013, Konami has finally pulled off the excellent game it's been threatening to release for the last couple of years. On the scale of dramatic football comebacks it's not quite up there with That Night in Barcelona (© Clive Tyldesley) or The Miracle of Istanbul, but it surely comes close.

(...)

Just like the old days, you can't just pick it up and play it effectively, but if you persist then you'll discover something very special.
And that's fantastic news for football fans, because it puts us in a situation we've pretty much never encountered before, where FIFA and PES are both at the top of their game. Choose your favourite and have fun, or open your mind and buy both, because with PES now back to near its best this really is a golden era for football games. With the next-gen systems now on the horizon and Konami investing in a new UK development studio to support the series, this is a battle that can only get more interesting.

Well, color me impressed.

Seems like this is getting some very good reviews.

For me PES will always be about the local multiplayer (same team) master league. Even in its lesser iterations that's always been good fun. Screw online.

Ohh.. I thought you meant master league then.

Personally I'm not bothered about the standard 'league' modes. I only ever ventured in there if it was a requirement to unlock classic players.

Gotta love PES and how their player ratings NEVER MAKE ANY FUCKING SENSE.

I can't believe they will not have the new transfers till October. That is ridiculous. Hopefully there will be a fan made patch out soon after release.

Will wait until the second piece of DLC releases, since most of what should be in the game arrives in that patch.

Still unsure on the boots thing mind.

Played the demo, it of course feels different from 2012. I like the interface bit better.

If I preorder from amazon I get $10 bonus credit. So I am thinking of pre-ordering.

$10 bonus credit is that I can use this $10 to buy anything from amazon, rite?

Nice OP. The eurogamer review fills me with joy, with one caveat: I wonder if the online is still going to be a unfunctioning piece of shit like the last PES I bought was? I mean, I love my PES single player but there are plenty of times I wouldn't mind duking it out with others.

Anyway, I think I might grab this for PC or PS3 at some point in the near future. It feels like forever since I last got lost in a footy game.

Is it better than Fifa 12? No fanatic opinion, I want a reasonable opinion please.

I didn't bother with any last year because they both disappointed me, but this year they have improved a lot. Fifa pips it for me as I got bored of PES after a few games.

KONAMI details first PES 2013 DLC

Konami Digital Entertainment GmbH has revealed the content of the first free update and DLC elements for its stunning PES 2013 title.

As with previous iterations of the series, KONAMI is committed to constantly adding to PES 2013, and KONAMI will release the first DLC pack to coincide with the game’s release for PlayStation®3, Xbox 360® and Windows PC. This first DLC adds the three licensed stadia of the newly-promoted Spanish clubs, and updates the latest kits for 37 licensed clubs, including Marseille, AJAX, FC Porto, Besiktas, and Corinthians. A second DLC pack will follow in mid-October, reflecting all summer moves and adding further stadia, UEFA elements, team updates, and online element updates. Detailed information will be released shortly.

The first update will be available in October and ramps up the online side of the game. It adds a Widget system that acts as a shortcut to gathering friends together for online matches and introduces a Ranking system. PES 2013 allows up to eight people to play in a match simultaneously, and the new download adds Community modes, wherein friends can be automatically selected from a pre-determined list, and allows Communities to track and monitor their results.

The free update unlocks the Incentives element of the myPES Facebook app, wherein achievements are rewarded and can be shown via the Social Networking service. Users can also now concede a match at half-time, while Master League Online fans will be paired against similarly-rated peers in a new Rival Ranking system.
