I've never seen any of these movies and have always wondered this... Why do they use the pink panther name? What the heck do they have to do with that character?

But I believe in the movies the Pink Panther is actually the name of a jewel.

Fucking stupid ass grave robbers. The pink pather(Clouseau) was Peter Sellers, not the reverse. It seems like a simple concept to grasp. Why wait this long to start rehashing. Why not just make a new Mr. Bean too.

You've got it backwards. The Pink Panther wasn't a character, it was a diamond, named for the panther that appeared in it when shown under the light. The cartoon character was based on the intro cartoon to the movie.
