Phil Spencer Confirms better quality for July Event

4K 60FPS stream
Yeah, that's not gonna happen lol. You'll probably get 1080/60.

I always found that last stream weird. You're are one of the biggest companies in the world and you couldn't even bother to send out good webcams? I'm glad Sony waited and had better quality even if they limited the stream to 1080/30.

Hell, Apple just put out what was one of their best looking WWDC events ever.

Ill explain further. I dont feel that their newly acquired first party has had enough time to create AAA large scale projects.

So far theyve only shown smaller titles, what people refer to as GP filler.

So my curiosity was if they were going to throw people a bone and say look this is what were working on but it wont be ready for a few years so hang tight.

How this coule be percieved as console warring is beyond me.
Except a lot of big Xbox first party projects for Xbox Series X started development before Sony first party projects for PS5
Halo Infinite - Late 2015
Playground Games RPG Project - Early 2017
Hellblade II - Late 2017
Obsidian RPG Project - Before Acquisition
Initiative - 2018
InXile and Compulsion Games - 2019
Undead Labs(New Project at second studio) -Late 2019(possibly prototyped since 2018), although I believe this will have a long development period.
They can show everything upto Initiative.

They have always streamed E3 and X0 at 4K 60 fps, this one is pre-recorded. You cant compare a monthly Inside Xbox show with WWDC.
Compare WWDC with this

But E3 isn't filmed inside of people's homes.

Also that video from a production standpoint doesn't even hold a candle to this years WWDC

I just want an announcement from The Initiative. What's all this AAAA talk about?

Why is this a thread? We knew this. Inside Xbox is a whole different format from major MS presentations.

We knew prior to Covid that MS was planning to bring the thunder at their E3 presser where the world would be watching.

On twitch i can't watch above 136p lol

I just hope they drop serious bombs, none of this "let's trickle info out over the span of the next 4 months" bullshit.
Even though their first showing was 3rd party and clearly over hyped in terms of content their next showing needs to effectively be their version of E3 showing.
They need to come out blazing with launch titles, upcoming and unannounced titles as well as perhaps special features etc.
I'm excited but it's in their best interest to wow the crowd because while the Sony show was kind of dull they are the incumbent for this Gen, Microsoft needs to show there is a reason to consider buying into their platform, for new people and old stalwarts that feel they got the shaft for the Xbone gen

Can we just get a date already?

With our luck this year, the damn thing might be July 31st 🤣🤣
We could probably guess at the July date because the week leading up to July 4th is off the books and probably the week after because of people being on vacation during this time of year so I would guess July 23rd.

I mean I'm a huge Ratchet and and Clank fan. Plus I really like Demon Souls and Horizon Zero Dawn as well. The multiplats didn't really capture my interest.

yeah same as, for me it Sony 1st party games is the reason I will buy the ps5. Ive recently got a pc and after using game pass apart from horizon there isn't much there that makes me think Xbox is my next console. It seems all the games will be on the platform so why go for the box?

I mostly game on PC so I'll be buying my Xbox games for it. However I'm really not interested in Microsofts franchises. I used to have gamepass but I really never used it.

Will the promise factory finally deliver? Will Phil-Kun finally master the technique of truth-telling and unlock his true form? Lets find out in the next episode. #DragonballNarratorVoice

That AAAA thing was something a recruiter at Microsoft made.

The guy (Drew Murray) doesn't understand the meaning of AAA or AAAA period from the sounds like it.

AAAA simply means a much higher budget than your typical AAA title. For example a game like GTA V, Call of Duty, God of War, Bloodborne, Gears 5, or Last of Us Part II is a typical AAA game with a budget ranging from 50 million to around 150 million.

An AAAA game could be around and over 300 Million budget. Halo Infinite could be considered as a AAAA game since its costing around 500 milllion on development alone.

It was listed as AAAA game under the jobs at their website simply to indicate that that's what the potential employee would be working on, a game of that high quality caliber and budgets. You can't put random shit on job description, so I am sure the recruiter didn't just came up with it. You can't put random fluff on job descriptions, and I am sure there is someone else that checks that stuff before a job posting is posted.

Like I said, he or Darell are not the ones who said AAAA, some recruiter at Microsoft did and they went along with it for the jokes. Halo Infinite has a normal AAA budget, Frankie denied the 500 million dollar budget rumor.

GTAV already had a budget of close to $300 million back in 2013, so I think we've already passed that qualifier. A lot of bigger games don't reveal their budgets, especially console first parties.

It did not fully utilize the $265 million purely on development, that's also including marketing which was counted for in that total $265 budget, so the development was probably about half of that number which is around $130 as I've stated. While it was the most expensive video game ever made, it was still not a AAAA title.

"Rockstar Games' GTA V was made on a marketing and development budget of $265 million."

Read more: https://www.tweaktown.com/news/3277...-the-most-expensive-game-ever-made/index.html

Also - "Media analyst Arvind Bhatia estimated the game's development budget exceeded US$137 million,[7] and The Scotsman reporter Marty McLaughlin estimated that the combined development and marketing efforts exceeded GB£170 million (US$265 million), making it the most expensive video game ever made at its time "

So yes, they probably added over $100 mil for marketing alone, so no, it is NOT a qualifier for a AAAA game. Until a game is strictly using $300 million or more for development ALONE (not including marketing) then it cannot qualify as a AAAA game. I believe that Halo Infinite will be the very first game that does that.

As for Halo - https://www.digitaltrends.com/gaming/halo-infinite-most-expensive-video-game-project/

"The budget set by Microsoft and 343 Industries for Halo Infinite is reportedly more than $500 million, according to German website Xbox Dynasty. This would make it the most expensive video game ever produced, though it should be noted that the amount is said to only be for its development, and does not yet include marketing costs. "

I believe the reason why that number is so high though is because of the development of the new Slipspace engine that will also be used in the future going forward for other Halo games at 343 industries. Halo Infinite is really an investment more than anything else.

Why do you keep posting this, when the franchise director himself denied it. Even the relevant thread was updated to reflect it.

This really shows what a lost gen this was for MS. They had some really great games this gen, but man I can't help but feel it could have been so much more. I really hope the July event will be the culmination of all the first party efforts and expanding of first party studios.

The big reveal will be Lockheart. Unless we hear otherwise.

Edit : and halo.
Halo Lockheart bundle. Per order now, trade in your Xbox one for credit towards Lockheart.. boom

Did anyone watch the Apple developer event this week? It was a pretty impressive presentation. A lot better than what other companies have been doing for their Covid presentations.
Apple knows that marketing makes the thing, but gaming companies still struggles from time to time.

Just compare the PS4 reveal to the PS5. Xbox 360 vs One. Nintendo E3 2010 vs 2013, or first Direct vs last one. Doesn't have like a "default setting", it's just trying and trying

Think you're spinning this a bit too hard.

Hellblade 1 came out in late August 2017 and they've done 3 VR games and Bleeding Edge since. You really trying to tell us that they're 4 years into Hellblade II? Doubt.

Obsidian and InXile were crowdfunding games before acquisition, and both have games recently out (Outer Worlds), or imminently out (Grounded, Wasteland 3). I'm sure that they have other projects in the pipeline but I'd be surprised if they're particularly advanced.

Playground only announced their intention to start a second team in early '17. It was end 17 before they moved to new offices and well into '18 before their recruitment spun up, coinciding with their acquisition by Microsoft.

The Initiative will be further behind that. They were founded in 2018, and have since pulled together a great team. But when did they actually start meaningful production on a game?

I'm excited to see what all of these studios are working on, but you're setting yourself up for disappointment if you are thinking it's all going to come as early as you suggest.

Dan Greenawalt must also be ready to enter the stage with a new version of Forza to show the world even if it doesn't release in 2020.

If Mattrick didn't close down a bunch of studios like he did, they would have been in better shape.

Congrats to MS on preventing leaks so far but the longer they wait the higher the risk. The worst that can happen to an event like this is the entire list of titles leaking or even worse, screenshots and videos. Nothing kills the hype more and this is the biggest hype generating opportunity they will get until release. I would be shocked if nothing leaks out for another 3 weeks. This event is all what the game pundits are talking about on a daily basis. The thirst for information is enormous and that generally leads to stuff getting out one way or another.

Obsidian and InXile
Chris Avellone talked about Chris Parker working on action RPG set in Eora in RPG Codex.
Also,

when I was walking around their [Obsidian's] studio they did say that they were working on another project. They were, I think, pulling the lead programer out of this [Outer Worlds] to go work on their new project.
InXile did start in 2019
Playground
Second studio opened in early 2017
The Initiative
The Initiative started hiring few months before E3 2018, when it was publicly announced. At that time it was just called "new studio in Santa Monica".
Hellblade II
Ok,my bad, its actually 2017.
I am not saying any of these games will come super early. I was replying to another post about how a lot XGS projects started before SIE projects.
