The weirdness comes in my opinion from your choice of entertainment. To me it seems like the adults watching this little girls show have to try so hard to justify how it isnt bizarre that you are seemingly stuck in your childhood when you watch this due to the demographic focus of MLP that it just makes no sense for you guys to put in all that effort and instead look for another show with more mature themes AND the same kind of depth you long for.
An adult and rainbow ponies is the same freak show to me as the same adult wearing kids underwear.

I do not have the freedom to choose what I want to watch and must instead conform to societal norms? I watch stuff like 24 and Dexter, don't worry. But sometimes I like something light and kid friendly like Spongebob or MLP.
If I am stuck in my childhood then so are those adults who watch and praise Pixar movies constantly and those who still watch stuff like Scooby Doo. Hell so are people who still play Mario or any Nintendo game. Grow up guys! Play COD instead!

But what are the specific demographic/target audiences for those things?
MLP demographic is pretty much 4-7 year old girls. Those other things can be for adults because they are intended for them as well. MLP is not.

I don't like bronies either but would you say the same for adults who like Adventure Time or Flapjack or Regular Show?

That's where you are wrong. The current show, Friendship Is Magic has more in common with Futurama in style and tone than the older series. Why has the brony movement started now and not before? Because they actually made a smart, "meant for everyone" type of show. It's been created by Lauren Faust who worked on stuff like Samurai Jack and Dexter's Laboratory. She even said that she wanted the parents of the little girls to get entertained by the show as well. Again, Mario is far more kiddie than Friendship is Magic (current show)
Not strictly a kids show...
It's not rocket science. Good show = Fan following.
And yet people talk about shonen anime as if it's some deep, philosophical stuff when it's the Japanese equivalent of Ben 10. Hypocrisy at it's finest.

OH HO HO! Did I hit a sensitive spot? Put yourself in my shoes. How would you like people talking about Looney Tunes like they talk about MLP? Kids show =/= Bad. Friendship is Magic may not be as timeless as LT but tries it's hardest to reach that level. Yet apparently LT is some Emmy Award worthy (it won a few as well I believe) classic television series while MLP is whale poop. How is that fair?

I kind of feel like if you feel that strongly about the type of entertainment that other people enjoy, you probably have more issues than the people you have a problem with.
As a father of a 4 year old girl I watch a ton of MLP. It's barely watchable. Ya its better than 90% of the other crap but its still for kids. Im not saying it's bad if your into it but damn man, its kinda creepy when a guy is into pink and purple ponies. I'm not saying that in a gay way, more of a pedophile way.

I think MLP fans like MLP because they love being different. For the sake of being different. I have a friend like this. Thankfully he's not a brony, but he's very adamant about liking the Star Wars prequels. He'll always take the unpopular opinion. He even insists he's never heard of Nelly or other famous "bad musicians" because he only listened to "good music" in the 90's/early 2000's.
Different for the sake of being different. There are shitton more TV shows that are better than MLP. Ranging from the serious to the comedy. Ranging from live action to animated. Ranging from adult swim to cartoon network. But you guys choose MLP. Not because its better and something so fucking amazing it deserves its own convention.... but because its fun to be able to say "IM A BRONY AND I DONT GIVE A FUCK WHAT SOCIETY THINKS OF THAT!"
and yes, I've seen a few episodes, I think like 3-4 at the request of a brony. great animation. That's about all its got going.
