Actually, the typical style for Anime/Manga (big eyes, deformed head etc.), which was made popular though Osamu Tezuka' Astro Boy Comics, got its inspiration from Carl Barks's Scrooge McDuck Comics. So yes, the Anime/Manga style has it's roots in America.

Edit: to be fair, between this and killing off Transformers Prime in order to start a new anime styled transformers series, it's quite possible that the upper-eschalon at the HUB may have lost their minds.
