Plasma, LCD, OLED, LED, best tv for next gen

The question has been answered a million times, so I wont make a thread. Im in need for a monitor, because I have to be connected through DVI. What is a great monitor to buy?

So I think I'm going to return my w802a this weekend.
I have until Monday to return it. I might.

I found that enabling the eco sensor actually improved black levels.

But I hate that blacks don't look solid, they like gradiate to blue. And the viewing angles are terrible. Maybe mine's defective and I'll take it back and see.

I know there have been some questions about sound here before, so for people needing a pretty cheap sound option for their TVs, seems people are raving about the new Andrew Jones Pioneer soundbar. Only about $400.

The review on Cnet is pretty great and users on the avs forum who got it seem ti find it pretty great for the money.

I am actually pretty okay with the blacks on my set. They definitely aren't looking blueish to me anyway, but that just makes all the more hesitant to exchange it for another of the same model.

Fairly sure I'm just going to bite the bullet and exchange for the w900a this weekend. Hopefully it's worth it.

About to pull the trigger on a Panasonic TC-P50S60 over on Amazon. It's the TV I want so I'm going to forget about Dell.com

Do any of you guys purchase extended warranties for your sets?

Hey guys, I picked up the Panasonic TC-P55VT60(55-Inch) recently, and dear lord this thing is a just beautiful, I've never seen things in motion like this before. I've actually like, started watching TV again(And by TV I mean Netflix) lol. Stuff just looks differently then before. And the games just look marvelous. I LOVE how stuff looks in motion on this screen.

Hi guys, just a quick question:

Does anyone here know if Samsung PS51F8500 51" Smart 3D Full HD Plasma TV is a good option for gaming? Planning for when the PS4 arrives. All the reviews have been pretty solid so far. My concern is that I have seen Plasma TVs in appliance stores, and they look pixelated? (maybe those were lower models - this one is apparently top of the line)

I am also considering the Sony w800 series and the Samsung 55 f7500. Thanks in advance! The triluminos screen of the w900 is very very tempting as well..

I know input lag can be somewhat subjective in practice, but based on what I've read, it's pretty bad for the F8500. The Panasonic plasmas seem to be better in that regard.

If that is something you value, the Sony w802a and w900a have the lowest input lag for sets in their size class by a long shot.

Thanks for the heads up. Was really keen on the Samsung Plasma F8500 due to the very awesome reviews but input lag is a pretty big deal for me.

Is the Sony w900 series so much better than the w800 series that it's worth the additional cash? I am thinking TRILUMINOS is something I wouldn't want to miss out.

If you were considering the F8000 plasma, why not the VT60 plasma?
It has better input lag, black levels, and color is just about reference when calibrated.

Panasonic P50S60 (50") a solid choice? Got my eye on that. Anything better in that price range? Looking for 50" or bigger, no more than $700. Don't care about 3D (but wouldn't mind it either).

The w900a and Samsung F8000 are the only LED sets that can come close to the picture quality of the top plasma sets from what I've seen and read.

I have the w802a right now and I am not blown away with the picture quality, but it is probably good enough for most who don't want to spend upwards of $2K on a set. The input lag on this set is truly fantastic though.

Glad you like it, play some Blu-Ray movies to really let it stretch its legs. Streaming and Netflix is compressed crap, no offense.

Plasma's have excellent motion handling so games tend to look awesome, sick contrast and blacks helps as well of course.

Unfortunately I just can't at this time. Might as well just settle for that 720p. The price is just right.

Amazon has some 32" 1080p sets in the $227-299 range if that's doable: link

I really can't comment on their quality though.

Edit: There's some smaller sets in there, just CTRL+F to look for 32-inch cause I'm too lazy to link them individually :P

I will say that the LG Electronics 32LN5310 32-Inch 1080p 60Hz 3D LED TV looks quite promising. Only problem I have not idea how good the quality is or if it's ideal for gaming with current and next gen consoles? :\

Black levels and color not quite as good.
It's still excellent though.
But it'd still be better than an LED, like the w802a right? No blueish tinge to blacks or poor viewing angles.

Really the only thing holding me back is the passive 3D on an LED. It's really fucking good.

Impulse mode apart from the low input lag is what makes this TV awesome, playing 60hz games like Stardust and Rayman legends with absolutely no motion blur is really a revelation.

Welp, just pulled the trigger on a p55st60 ! Getting ready for PS4. I heard a few pages back that the input lag is much improved after getting the latest firmware. Is that a fairly simple process?

I've decided on getting the Samsung 32' Series 5 F5500 LED full HD smart tv (100Hz) it's currently on sale and as a student, I have to snap up them sales lol.

Than the 802, yeah.
Colors probably on par with the W900 though, but still, it'd have better black.

depends on the size really for anything over 32 inches you are better off with Plasma over LCD.

LED makes the screen more natural looking.

Plasma TV's have better contrast than LED, more like the old CRT system.

OLED TV's are still too expensive really.

I have a 50" 1080p (active) 3D Plasma.

How come nobody mentioned digital projectors ?

here is my set-up

TV ~ LG 50PZ570T 50 inch 3D
RECEIVER ~ Onkyo TXNR509 3D 5.1 CH
SPEAKERS ~ Canton Movie 125 MX
BLU-RAY ~ Panasonic DMP-BDT210 3D
DVD ~ Samsung HD850 Multi Region
VCR ~ Panasonic NV-FJ630
Sky HD+ Freeview HD
GAMING SYSTEMS ~ Xbox, Xbox 360, PS1, PS3, Wii, WiiU 3DS.

Well I just shelled out an extra 900 bucks to upgrade from a 47w802a to the 55w900a. They didn't have it in stock so it will be delivered in a week. Still have the w802 to mess around with in the meantime. Hope the Triluminos is worth the markup...

Can I get a recommendation for a friend whose tv just broke? 42", 1080p, $1000 are what he's looking for. Normally I'd tell him to get a panny plasma, but he's not really very tech minded and won't want to do the break in process/worry about burn in. Samsung I'm assuming? He will be gaming with a PS3/4, but won't notice much with regard to input lag.

Stretch the budget a little and tell him to get the Sony KDL-47W802A.

It is $1098 at Amazon right now. The extra 5 inches are nice and it will be the perfect partner for PS3/PS4.

I'm going to take the plunge and grab a new TV tomorrow. I was pretty set on the 50ST60, but my mate that works at a retailer here is trying to sell me on the LG LED's, mainly the LA6900/LA7400/LM7600 range. I popped into the store and they look pretty damn nice. Any opinions would be really helpful, use would be pretty evenly split between TV/Bluray/Games.

I was originally set on an LG (LA6200) but the more I looked into it the more the Samsung and Sony sets had better quality/features at similar price points.

I have a w900a on the way. :) I was close to waiting on the 65" w850a, but it would probably sit too high up.

All of you guys with the w900a are making me jealous. I wish it was just a few hundred cheaper. Almost tempted to wait for the holidays just to see if it catches a great sale. If I could snag it for $1500 I'd do so in a heartbeat.

edit: Man, I've been stressing a TV purchase for over a month now.

Now I'm contemplating the Sony 55" w802a. Gaming isn't my primary concern as I'm more of a PC gamer anyways but having a good response time is always a plus and the w802a is pretty feature rich. I imagine it has a better picture than the $500 less Panasonic 58" e60 I've been looking at even if it's not up to par with the w900a.

Garath, it's alright if you don't mind terrible viewing angles and blue blacks. Everything else is alright. Oh and there's verticle banding on mine...

Congrats. The w900a is a great set with really good input lag. I would recommend turning off most, if not all of the enhancers while gaming to give you a better picture.

Cheers! What did you end up going with?

I haven't bought one yet, I ended up picking up some Klipsch Reference speakers. But when I do I'm 95% set on the 55W900A and 5% on the 55X900A. Really I'm waiting to see what Black Friday/Boxing Day brings price wise. If the 4K gets to $2500 I'll grab it, if the W900 hits about $1700 I'm in.

I really like the Triluminos color (QDots) and the black levels look pretty great for an LED. That coupled with the really low lag makes it a sure fire winner for gaming. It's a shame the W is active 3D, thats really the only big thing the X900 offers me: the best 3D money can buy (projectors not withstanding). That and maybe a little bit of future proofing

As a owner of Sony's XBR 4k set, do not under estimate how good gaming looks like on a 4k set due to the up scaling it does to all non-4k content. I did a side by side with my XBR-929 vs the 4k XBR and everything that I feed to the 4k set looks a lot better than on my previous set.

I had tested a lot of sets before settling on the 4k including the 900a 55" which to me outside of the 4k was the best set for gaming that I tired. I also had a Panasonic ZT60 65" and although it was incredible, it had really bad image retention to where I had to send it back. Overall, the 4k Sony has been one incredible set.

Good to know, perhaps I should sit on my hands until CES or another big drop on the X900. I'm really disappointed with the X850A announcements. I had hoped they would be the same as the X900 minus the speakers, but the active 3D was a huge disappointment. I do like the odd 3D content and everything I've read says the passive + 4K combo is the best. It would also be great if this works with the Nvidia EDID trick as 3D Vision games could look amazing. Hopefully we will get another 4K, passive, triluminos screen out of sony next year, bonus if it drops the speakers (don't have space) and a 60" iteration would be nice...

Why is the Panasonic S60 not sold in Europe? All their other models are including the budget X60 which lacks Full-HD.

The more expensive ST60 has input lag issues which the S60 lacks and of course it's also cheaper. You have to go the the GT60 which costs like double of the S60 to get a great TV without input lag.

Really annoying and quite frankly puzzling.

See if they sell a TC-P55UT50 in Europe bro..it is a step up from the S60 and has a 2500 force field drive that the S60 does not..along with 3D,etc and best of all has the least input lag..oh and no louvre filter which means NO DSE and you get super bright crisp image. I went from a fairly high end G10 Panny Plasma to this and it blows away my G10 from 2009...granted i just had it professionally calibrated :) ..it rivals the ST50 and this years ST60

Guys how bad the input lag is on the Panasonic VT60? Is it a dealbreaker for gaming?

I was dead set on getting a Sony W900a, but the fact that it is only 55 inches is killing me...

I will be mostly watching movies/series and playing games.

I don't know which TV to get. The sony with the low input lag or the Pana with it's big screen and better picture??? HELP!

:-(

If you often have people come over to watch TV or whatever and you've had no problems with Plasma sets, you'd probably want to pick the Panasonic. The viewing angle on the Sony is really quite narrow, even vertically. But don't let me make that your main concern - maybe your friends aren't tech savvy, and you don't really care either. The size on the other hand, especially if you were aiming for the 65'' VT does make quite a difference.

But if you're single like me, who doesn't throw a lot of parties, the Sony is an excellent choice - especially if consoles are your main (or only) gaming platform. The input lag in game mode is ridiculously low, and even with the Motion Flow enabled, which does away with the motion blur, everything feels incredibly responsive. Picture quality on the W900 is great, although not in the same league as the Panasonic. But then again, if you had never seen the both of them, you probably wouldn't think any less of the Sony.

For just gaming, or mostly just gaming, I'd get the Sony. The Panasonic on the other hand is just so pretty to look at.
