Everyone answer this question first! Are there any good LED/LCDs out there for around $400? Preferably 40-46 inches.
I figure I should post this here in case anyone else is in the market for a new TV. I took the plunge on one of the new 2015 M series Vizios. As with last year's P series, they have an ultra low lag input that's wonderful for gamers, but one seemingly unadvertised feature they also have is a strobing backlight option. This does a fantastic job reducing motion blur and was a very pleasant surprise. Obviously it dims the image, but I find it remains pleasantly bright in a light controlled environment. I figured other gamers might be interested in that feature, which I'd only seen mentioned on Sony LCDs prior to this.
Where did you find one? I can't seem to find any online retailers that are selling right now. Most are letting you preorder. I need to pay for one within the next 2 weeks.
I bought it on Amazon. They have sizes up to 60 inches right now. I only bought the 55 inch set, so that's what I'm referencing in my comment.
I have a question for you guys:
I'm looking to buy a new 60"+ tv for gaming and the like and I've being drawn towards the new 2015 M series (Vizio). It has 32 active LED zones for local dimming.
My question is should I go with that 2015 M series 60" (1500$)? or spend the same amount on the 2014 P series 60" which has 64 active LED zones.
That's in Game mode. In PC mode, LG's earlier OLED TV had 31 or 39ms, while it was 46ms in Game mode. I'd imagine this will be simillar. I'd also imagine however that input lag will grow larger when displaying 1080p content on a 4K TV.What's the point of buying the new OLEDs if the input lag is terrible (50 ms)?
What a disappointment.
Well, I guess I don't need a new TV anymore. I unplugged my plasma for a few minutes then plugged it back in. The HDMI ports started working again.
Pretty weird but whatever, I am just glad it works again lol.
Well, after my defective replacement on my 2014 Sony Kdlw850b 60 inch went bad too, Sony is just gonna cut me a check for the $1500 and come take this one away. Beautiful TV, great performance, hugely disappointing reliability. Obviously these are complex machines, but my first one had a backlight issue resulting in black horizontal line, and then the refurbed unit they sent me to replace my new one has a bad logic board. I asked for and was promised an A (new) unit replacement, but they can't find me one to send. So they are refunding me the cash and I am back in the market after 6 months.
It seems like the 2015 Vizio m-series 4k is they way to go, right? As long as it has that low-lag game mode from last years models, I think I am turning this check around for the Vizio. Anyone have one of these in home?
Best Buy has the LG OLED 55" 55EC9300 for $2499 and they actually have them in stock around here which is nice because they've been OOS for months. I'm seriously tempted. The only thing holding me back is that I'd really like a 60" screen, and the 36ms input lag (which really isn't that bad).
60" is too big for 1080p.

I'm so antsy for the new Bravia X850 reviews. We're currently in the market for a new TV and if the reviews are good we'll probably take the ill-advised 4k plunge.
Same here, with it being so close to coming out I'm stuck between last year's seemingly great X850B and next month's X850C.
More zones means better dimming, so for the same price the 2014 P series should win. I'm not aware of any specific advantage this year's M series has over last year's P sets other than price (most P sets are still more expensive than their same size M counterparts), but perhaps wait until a few more reviews are out?
Let me amend that: the M may have better upscaling than the P series, which is arguably more important than the local dimming. I'd say wait for more reviews that can do proper comparisons.
Such terrible, terrible woes. Prospects look good though, and to be perfectly honest something has gone really off if the purchase would fall through.
Heh, yeah, it's tough wait to finish choosing isn't it.
Nice. Fall through? So did you preorder some size of X850C then?

Like anything though: if the end product doesn't meet the expectations we'll have to search for a different model, but I'm pretty confident (hopeful) that the X850C will live up to the expectations.
If you can still get one, grab the now $1499 XBR55X850B. I own it and know several others who do in different sizes and it is no question the best tv for the check price Sony cut you. Destroys the vizio in image quality, color and upscaling. Features too with 3d, built in camera and PlayStation now. 55" instead of 60" but go for quality not quantity.
Edit: plus triluminous color which the W850 didn't have.
That's disappointing to hear since I have the same TV.
So from the looks of it, I waited too long to buy a Plasma? No plasmas slated to come out for 2015.![]()
Welp. the 50w800b I bought last year will now not turn on and just keeps blinking a red light. Time to sleep on this and then see what kind of warranty it has.
Checking out the 850c on Sat, just to see how well the new OS works and up conversion/color with the X1 chip. Buying a 930c/940c though. The X-tended dynamic range (pro on 940) are usually no joke and they'll support HDR. Sony had the best color and detail in 2014 leds, after seeing the new Samsung's I think they're going to have this year as well.
Would buy the 9300 oled but terrified of the burn in I saw in store on one. And Vizio is not an option after seeing how awful their tv's were last year.
The 940 maybe too big though. I have a small room it's in and a big couch and 7.2 surround. So space is a premium. The 950b won't be updated to hdr. So the 930c maybe my best choice. But if they fixed the halo issue from the 950 with the 940 I may just pull the trigger on impulse.
My 55x800b is doing something similar. It rebooted itself a few times yesterday, then today it would only reboot to a blinking red light. A power cycle seems to have fixed it for now, but I'm not optimistic.

Mine is going right to blinking red light as soon as I plug it in, even without trying to turn it on.

Where do you see the 940's supporting HDR? They havnt even announced how many zones it has have they?
The X930C and X940C series will also be compatible with High Dynamic Range (HDR) content via a network update this summer. HDR is an emerging video format that can display a wider range of brightness levels which will allow content creators, such as movie directors, to expand their range of creativity. HDR content will be available from major video service providers like Amazon and Netflix this year.
I will probably upgrade my 55" W950 Sony to the XBR-65X930C if a few scenarios work out:
- If the HDMI spec supports 4k 60fps 4:4:4 chroma
- If Nvidia next non Titan card does 4k 60fps.
- If the input lag is sub 27ms.
- If the viewing angles are decent.
I really like the wedge shape televisions, I've been happy with those speakers + wireless subwoofer, then switching over to some good Sennheiser headphones when I want more audio immersion.
Sony has already confirmed the 2015 C series do not support 4K/60 with 4:4:4 chroma.
The 980 Ti will likely do 4K with 30 fps in almost all games available today. Hoping for consistent 4K with 60 fps in all games on a single GPU is a pipe dream until Pascal in 2016.
The input lag in Game Mode has been around ~40 ms on both the 2013 A series and 2014 B series Sony 4K sets. Since they haven't bothered to improve the hardware boards to implement an HDMI that support 4K/60 with 4:4:4 chroma, I would be surprised if they have been able to get input lag down on that scaler. It's one of the best scalers around for high quality upscaling content to a 4K panel but speedy it definitely is not. The lag when in Cinema mode on these TVs is in the ~120 ms range, it turns out that high quality upscaling is not magic after all.
Is there a better 30-40" option than the Sony W6 series for entirely gaming usage? I've been happy enough with the w800b.
Where do you see the 940's supporting HDR? They havnt even announced how many zones it has have they?
Huh? Last year's Vizio E series was one of the best buys you could get. Dark blacks, better BWB contrast ratio than most TVs two to three times the cost, and all had excellently low input lag, with minimal motion trails.
