Plasma, LCD, OLED, LED, best tv for next gen

I'm not sure if "projector" falls into any of these categories, but I've been having a blast gaming on a 150" screen. I played split-screen Rocket League and it felt like I had 4 75" hdtvs stacked together on my wall.

Are you sure you had everything configured correctly with settings optimized for gaming? It's just odd because there have been numerous comments on here praising the upscaler and overall IQ of this tv, specifically in relation to console gaming.

I am pretty much dead set on getting either the Vizio M55 or M60. Would you still recommend this tv? My intended usage is primarily PS4 gaming.
I am pretty sure I had everything configured yes, I took the time to turn off all the uneeded noise reduction settings, made sure it was in game mode, etc. I even calibrated my uncles tv using the disney wow disc. He only intends to use the tv for movies but the nerd in me wanted to see what it was about as far as gaming goes. Some people may not see what I see or notice what I notice also different tvs of the same sku can have different results. My main advice would be just to continue researching and test things out for yourself and while you are spending big money always buy the warranties just incase you aren't satisfied. I have no problem returning or swapping out a tv if I feel like it doesn't meet my standards. I am not interested in 4K at the moment but im sure when I do decide to jump in there will be a panel lottery regardless of the brand I select I just hope I can find the right one for me. Some people don't mind or notice DSE, input lag, banding, and overall picture quality as much as others.

I'm in the same boat. My EC9300 blew me away with the picture, but 40ms with PC and Expert 1 was floaty. I don't like to say I can play this and this on my tv but not this... If you know what I mean. I want to pop something in and go for it. Halo 5 online was pretty difficult to play with 40+ms input lag.

So I'm going for the Samsung JS9000. I know it's not as good picture wise, but I can game, 4K, HDR, and upgrade the processor next year if I want to.

Apparently the EF9500 is around 60 ms in game mode, so slightly worse than that. And yeah, Halo (and even Black Ops 3) is rough going with that lack of precision.

I'm thinking the Samsung 9500 for me at this point. Which, let's be honest, I'm sure is still a damn fine TV.

I keep looking back at that EF9500, but 60ms is wayyyy too much. Yea, the Samsung 9000 and 9500 both look great. I was pretty blown away by the 9000 in Best Buy's Magnolia room. Obviously having your eyes jumping back and forth to the OLED reminds you which is better, but the 9000 really wowed. I am worried about all the sets that have had blacklight bleeding. I don't really want to spend the extra $1000 for the 9500, but I may.

I doubt these will see much of a discount on Black Friday, but I'm hoping we get some Veteran's Day deals on wednesday.

I'm mostly drawn to the JS9500 because you can use the active dimming while in game mode. It'll help me accept that I no longer have an OLED. Yeah, I'm wondering about Black Friday myself. Correct me if I'm wrong though, but high end televisions don't usually get huge cuts. It's the low end stuff that gets slashed in hopes of bringing people into the store.

Either way though, I feel like we're close enough to BF that you can get a price match anywhere you buy, if you get it anytime soon.

According to http://www.avsforum.com/forum/166-l...-3500u-za-evolution-kit-349.html#post37948721, it's supposed to work, but I just tested with my Leo Bodnar input lag instrument and I could only get 83ms, which is disappointing to say the least.

That is bloody ridiculous!
Did you try this?
Hey gamers, to reduce Lag when connected to a PC capabe of 4k 4:4:4 at 60hz, rename the input to "Game" and then go into Menu >> System >> General >> Game Mode and turn it "On". Next change your settings as follows: Dynamic Contrast = Off Smart LED = Off Cinema Black = Off With the above settings lag is reduced from a normal of ~90ms versus ~59ms in PC Mode to an astounding low of around 23ms or less.

Couple things, if looking at vizio m-series keep in mind the native refresh rate is 60hz until you get to 60" or larger.

The Samsung js9000 like the 8500 has some horrific edge light bleeding, and the js9500 gets some bad bloom/haloing. You're going to compromise either way.

Yea as far as black friday goes, it's usually the cheap TVs that get the hard discount. Now that all these manufacturers control the prices, I doubt we are going to see much of anything. I know somebody that knows somebody ;) that's seen the LG price plan and the only OLED tv they are marking down is is the 9100, which is going to mAtch the price of the 9300 it's replacing at 1799.

I did talk to Amazon about the price matching because I have a large gift card with them. They will match their own sale prices for 7 days after purchase, and a competitor for 30 days. They said that it has to be a deal that they can order themselves or it's not gonna happen. No door busters, first 100 or anything like that. For anyone that's ordered from them, how easy is it to get them to send you a new one if the TV has issues? Do they give you a hard time about it?

I'm still holding out hope that someone does a Veterans discount on Veteran's day.

Unfortunately compromise is the name of the game with TVs, which sucks when you're paying what we are paying. With the 9000/8500 it's all about the panel lottery. I've seen about half get perfect no bleed panels, and half get panels that are destroyed. Not sure about the 9500, although the one I saw at BB in their dark room looked pretty good.

Is Sony or Vizio better than Samsung about putting consistently good quality panels in their TVs?

I think some would argue for Sony at times, probably not Vizio tho. It's really hard to tell because you have to look at how many are sold vs how many are actually complaining, yada yada. Then you've got to look at how many regular people even notice what the enthusiasts are returning TVs for. I'm convinced that Amazon takes those returns with DSE/uniformity issues and sells them as Warehouse Deals knowing that most people aren't going to care/notice it. I would say it's all pretty close to the same tho. It's the sad nature of TVs.

I think the Vizios are great for the money, but they aren't pricing their tvs cheap for goodwill. They may be putting great panels in there, but the build quality does elicit much confidence. My remote is destroyed after 4 months. Losing buttons daily.

I would recommend focusing more on what retailer is going to take care of you if you get a set you can't live with. You may spend a little more at BB, but you can wheel that bad boy in there over and over until you get one you are cool with. Also, avoid those tests that look for issues. If you don't notice problems while gaming, tv, and movies then you're good. If you go looking, you'll find issues.

Thanks! So Ill buy the set that I want whether it's Sony or Samsung or Vizio someplace where I can easily return it if I want to do so.

EDIT if I bought the Vizio I would be using my universal remote and it would be because (1) my more expensive Panasonic plasma died after three years so I'm gunshy on investing in a really expensive set that might not last and (2) I want to wait it out until better 4K TVs are available and more 4K content is broadcast.

Sounds like a good plan. Rtings.com is a great source for reviews. I think the Vizio is great for the money, and there's times where I've been blown away by the picture. I think 4K is a pretty great now even though there isn't much content. Most these TVs do an incredible job upscaling, so your 1080p content will look better than it ever has. I mentioned it before, but it also presents much cleaner texts in games and dashboards, etc. We'll see UHD bluray players very very soon, so you may not want to miss out on that.

There's a lot of information in here that represents my thought process with respect to purchasing a new TV. At present I own a Samsung LN40C530, which definitely exhibits vertical banding and motion blurring. But you know what? Spotting either of these is incredibly rare. In other words, you really have to be looking for them. Motion blurring, for instance, is only aggravated if you are violently moving the camera in a video game from left to right with sensitivity settings on high. So yes, there will always be issues if you try to find them. Generally I am the kind of person who obsesses over small details like this but in the coming weeks I don't want to be that person because that just means hassle, less time playing my games, and generally being without a TV for periods at a time. Some battles are worth fighting, others are not. It all depends on the severity of the issue and one's disposition in living with said issues. Because my TV is nearly 6 years old, I feel like whatever I get next will be a noticeably improvement.

My preference in upgrading is to keep things incredibly simple so as to facilitate a new TV's intended purpose: viewing content. As I stated above, I want to spend time playing and enjoying my games, not obsessing and exchanging TVs. So with the Vizio M series being an affordable popular option with impressive IQ it sort of seems like a no-brainer, especially in consideration of any Black Friday deals. Unfortunately the closest retailers in my immediate area are Walmart and Target. Will either of them honor Dell's rumored Black Friday deal on Vizio's M60? Which store would be better to purchase from considering warranty, return policy, etc.? I know Walmart has both the Vizio M60 and M55. Not sure about Target.

Why is the Vizio M not on this list?

http://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/by-usage/video-gaming/best

Too new? Not as good?

Edit: NVM I didn't see it when I looked.

Edit2: But why buy the Vizio M 55 for $920 when I can buy the Sony x810c 55 for $1000?

Vizio M55 is $849 at Walmart. What advantages does the Sony x810c 55 offer? Better build quality and brand name? I could have sworn I read threads discussing the Vizio M series as superior in certain areas over the Sony x810c but that may have been mostly subjective.

Oh yeah how much should I be willing to spend in order to have my TV mounted with all wiring properly concealed? Geek Squad at Best Buy charges $150 for mounting only. I found a company that will do everything for $200, which includes the price of a power kit as well (if needed). How much should I be willing to spend for a good TV mount, as these range anywhere from $30 - $100 and upwards. Is Craigslist worth checking? I could probably mount my TV myself but honestly I don't want to learn on my walls and risk messing something up.

Ratings rates the x810c a bit higher. Also yeah I would assume it had better build quality and brand name.

If you buy your TV at a Best Buy they usually give you a much better deal on that stuff. I had them mount my first TV and I mounted the second myself. It's really not a big deal you just need a level a stud finder and a drill. The mount needs to be level and the screws need to be in the middle of the studs. Best Buy sells in wall wiring kits. I just bought a plastic cover and painted it the same color as my wall. I felt like the TV mounts are all the same no difference between the $30 and the $200 unless you want to tile or swivel your TV. Not sure about cost for mounting.

At that size I'd recommend the Sony. 60" and up the Vizio is a much better value with a true 120hz panel, better uniformity, more precise local dimming (same number of zones but superior algorithm).

Btw, only put stock on RTINGS reviews if you happen to agree with their philosophy. My number one priority is always PQ, with input lag second, so I tend to agree with David Katzmaier of CNET, Robert Wiley of LCD buying guide, among others. When RTINGS recommends disabling local dimming on some TVs that are designed around/dependent on such feature, I know I have to look elsewhere for opinions. They're great for side-by-side comparisons of hard facts such as input lag, number of HDMI inputs, etc., though. :-)

You've got a point there, I'm baffled when they say disable local dimming, when it's actually a very good/integral part of the TV. For instance if I turn off Local dimming on my W900A, it looks bloody awful! Massive impact on picture quality. And Rtings saying certain TV's they've calibrated by turning off a known great feature is crazy, especially when it doesn't come as a detriment to lag or whatever.

avoid those tests that look for issues. If you don't notice problems while gaming, tv, and movies then you're good. If you go looking, you'll find issues.

Good advice. They all have issues. If you see issues with the tests you will start looking for the problem they exposed in all content. You won't be able to un-see it and it will likely ruin your enjoyment of a set you could have probably enjoyed otherwise.

I have the 9600. The gaming is actually ok after a few tweaks, and putting it in Game Mode is a must. Cinema, etc are just too slow.

That said, it's a great looking TV. I have the 65 VT in the loft still, and while it's still a great set, I can recognize it was time to move on--true 4k content looks stunning.

That said, I might get the 9500 just to have the HDR, but the gaming lag might not be tolerable.

Ok cool I knew there were some perks with the Vizio over Sony. But if I'm just using my TV for console gaming does 120hz even matter? I thought 60hz is equivalent to 60fps and since no PS4 game will ever exceed 60fps, what benefit does 120hz offer? My current Samsung LCD is 60hz which seems fine

Yea, I don't think it'd be bad in certain games, but I play a lot of Halo and BF4 and you can definitely notice the lag. I'll definitely miss it the OLED though.

I'll be picking up the JS9000 tomorrow. Just a heads up, they are throwing in an additional 32" TV and 1 TB hdd with JS9000 or JS9500 purchase at BB.

Edit 55 and up and the 32 is 720p.

Im looking to buy a Vizio M 55 or 60. Any great deals coming for em on black friday or around that time? I really want to upgrade.

Yea, I got a free 49' LG when I bought this one. Didn't even know there was a promotion.

I'm playing BO4 now, and it's fine. I'll probably have it calibrated soon.

yes on the vizios> I think the 60" is already leaked at $900. Just search Black Friday on Google. They'll all probably get a good reduction.

Can someone save me from going through whole thread and tell me what specs to look for in a TV, and minimum numbers of it? I need new TV for my place but up to 500e cant spare more. So I know 1080p aaand that's about it, what else? ps4 ps3 and TV watching, 40is inches id reckon would be good

Thanks for help gents, guess I really need to try one somewhere. I'm used to Pioneer plasma levels of lag, and was hoping the OLED would be similar meaning I can enjoy the screen for movies and cinematic style games, but if even that is a stretch it's disappointing...

LG EC9300

I made another video of the weird issue.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/75c5ojflvc19ao5/20151107_191000.mp4?dl=0

That's how the nighttime always looks in GTA V for me, but also Witcher 3. I haven't been able to fix it at all. The nights really shouldn't look like that. Is there any way to get rid of that weird effect? Is that indeed colour banding?

Never noticed any banding in GTA V or TW3, although I played on PC. Try resetting your settings back to default?

Native 120hz panels are better at handling motion. That being said, you might need to see the sets side by side to spot the difference. Just make sure you're not buying a new TV sight unseen.

That is bloody ridiculous!

Yes, I tried that. The Bodnar outputs its own signal that is then measured on the screen by the sensor in the instrument, so it's testing the 1080p signal it emits. I'm curious how it measured 23ms at 4k when the signal is only output at 1080p. Using a camera is wildly inaccurate.

I'm confused between Sony 65X810C and the Vizio M70-C3.
Both are similarly priced (between $1500 - $2000)

But I've been reading a lot of horror stories about Vizio build quality and support.

Please provide some feedback, and in general how are these TVs?

Primary use will be Movies and Games.

I'm being advised on the AVS forum that I can replace myself the main board on my 3 year old Panasonic UT50 for around $100-$150 bucks and keep it for more years.

Anyone have any experience opening up a TV? Is this something that a normal person with a screwdriver etc can do pretty easily?

So which of these Stores is best to buy my TV now to get a holiday price match refund in a few weeks? Best buy or Walmart?

Best Buy won't price match/refund any price from Black Friday - Cyber Monday. Amazon doesn't sound like they will either, has to be a weekly deal. Walmart if you are trying to match those.

I believe you have 30 days with everyone under normal weekly sales

I just ordered a Sammy UE55JU6400 4k TV, it should arrive in two days, how is it for gaming? specifically input lag & picture quality.

I didn't want anything other than a Sony TV because they have phenomenal input lag, but I had a nice deal with that TV (it was free with an 18 months contract with my ISP, the other option was a PS4, which I already have).

EDIT: Fixed model number.

I have Samsung 75" H6400 from 2014. Been having a blast gaming with it, namely because of the sheer size and picture quality. Not really had any issues with input-lag and I'm not very sensitive to it, especially with controller. Been wondering however, which mode does offer a better input-lag: Game or PC?

Based on my experiences. With Game mode TV doesn't support 4:4:4 chroma and you get a minor dynamic back-light which can't be entirely disabled, some settings get greyed out. With PC mode almost every customizable setting gets greyed out and 4:4:4 chroma is enabled, no dynamic back-light action here.

So if I pick up a Visio E60 ... what should I expect in regard to PQ compared to my Sammy 1080p plasma? It's my first LED larger than 32" that I have in bedrooms

I mostly watch DirecTv, play games and watch sports

Yea, I don't think it'd be bad in certain games, but I play a lot of Halo and BF4 and you can definitely notice the lag. I'll definitely miss it the OLED though.

I'll be picking up the JS9000 tomorrow. Just a heads up, they are throwing in an additional 32" TV and 1 TB hdd with JS9000 or JS9500 purchase at BB.

Current LG 9500 owner, soon to be ex owner, unfortunately. I've posted a good deal of thoughts on that tv so far, so I won't rehash. Amazon was super easy to schedule a return with. It'll be picked up some time this week.

Went to Best Buy looking for a replacement, mainly the Samsung JS9500, and I have to say that even with the crap feed they have running I was really impressed. No, the blacks aren't as good as the OLED. Duh. But they're still really really good. And I wasn't able to notice any blooming when it was just white text on black background, really. And the screen seemed nice and uniformly black.

RTINGS puts the JS9500 at 21 ms lag. You won't get any better on a TV, really. The only thing I'm a big apprehensive about is the curve. They had the JS9500 next to the flat 8500, and if I'm going to be honest, I do prefer it flat. There's just something odd about the curve, even if I'm sitting smack perfectly in front of it. And it's SO WEIRD to me that people who have the curve say: best case, you don't notice it. NOT that it makes the experience better, but that it's just something you don't notice. You forget and forgive that it's there.

So odd.

It'll hurt looking this OLED, but those SUHD Samsungs are real real nice.

I had been itching to get a new TV since this past summer and had spent an ungodly amount of time researching what to get. I am a big gamer, but also really watch a ton of TV and movies, so the black levels were super important to me. My last TV was a 55" Samsung and it worked well for games, but it was approaching four years old and back then there wasn't much for testing lag, although I believe I found a site listing it as 48ms or something like that. Anyway, I never noticed any lag personally, although the only FPS I play regularly has been Destiny - and I played a LOT of Destiny over the past year with no problems.

Fast forward to October and I finally had my 2 TVs narrowed down to the Samsung JS9000 55" and the LG OLED EF9500. At the time, the Samsung was $500 cheaper ($2499 vs $3000), but the LG had a steeper discount (from $4999). Still, I was super apprehensive about the OLED because of the input lag and was worried that I'd notice it. So, I pulled the trigger and got the JS9000 as the JS9500 was out of my price range.

After setting up the JS9000 I was pretty pleased. The gaming side of things worked fantastic and the colors seemed a richer, with much better black levels than my previous Samsung TV. Still, my old TV looked pretty good, and this one, while better, didn't really make me feel like it was a huge upgrade. My enjoyment lasted about 2 days, then I booted up my Wii U. I pressed the Home button and went to the eShop and as the screen went to complete white, I noticed on the left and right sides of the screen there were these 2 pinkish bars from top to bottom. They were very noticeable and once I saw them, I couldn't unsee them - even when playing other games that didn't have pure white backgrounds.

I regrettably called Best Buy to initiate a return. They were super nice and agreed to do an exchange. The LG was still on sale, and I decided to upgrade for $500 more and give it a try. I was very nervous, but hopeful that it would work for me in gaming, and that it wouldn't have any noticeable defects. I had already went through a bad panel with the Samsung.

Best Buy brought the LG this past Tuesday and I hooked it up and immediately was floored. I couldn't believe how amazing the picture looked. The pure blacks are simply beautiful. Even without tweaking a single setting I was getting very accurate skin tones and colors. I had heard that the passive 3D was good, so I threw in Avatar Blu-Ray 3D and put on the glasses. WOW. The 3D effects were the best I have ever seen. So clear, so vibrant, and so awesome. I was in love. But, the big test was playing games. I turned on the Wii U and checked the white screen. Phew, looked perfectly white, no discoloration anywhere. Then I put in Yoshi's Woolly World, and the colors just popped. So nice looking. I adjusted the Game Mode's colors a little bit to make me happy. I played a whole level and didn't detect any lag - at least that I could perceive. I was able to easily navigate the level and everything seemed spot-on.

I then threw in Destiny for the ultimate test. I figured this would make or break the TV for me. I went down to the Cosmodrome to explore a bit and it controlled fantastic. I was popping head shots left and right and jumping around with ease. I still didn't detect anything as being off. Now, this could be due to the fact that I had gamed on a TV for the past 4 years that probably wasn't the best in the lag department, so maybe this LG TV is similar and I'm used to it. But I have had a few others play on the screen and they haven't noticed a problem either.

I'm so relieved! The TV is spectacular and every single time I turn it on and begin watching TV or playing a game I'm taken aback by the beautiful picture. I'm over the moon with it and couldn't be happier. I messed around with some 4K YouTube stuff and it looked fantastic as well.

I completely understand the hesitation people have in getting one of these TVs as I obsessed over this decision for months. I got lost in the AVS Forums and here reading everything I could on TV sets - and I'm just happy I finally own one that has exceeded my expectations. The LG really feels like a step up, and pretty much everyone I've shown it to is impressed. If you're on the fence and can afford one, I highly suggest trying it out. Get one from Best Buy and keep the box and stuff incase you want to exchange it for something else.

Did it measure 23ms at 4K on the 3500 evolution box then? It's a bit worrying if the evolution kits can't match the One Connect box for features and power.

I finally received my replacement projector ( Epson EH-TW9200 ) and it's quite hard to get back to a projector after a few weeks with the LG oled. The fan noise, the blacks, input lag...will need some time to readjust myself. Anybody having this PJ ( I think the reference is 5030UB in the US ? ) and would have some knowledge to share ?

I'm considering buying the Sony KDL50W800C; I see some people here have experience with it. How's the input lag for gaming? I've read a few reviews, most notably Rtings, but I'd like to hear from someone here.
