Plasma, LCD, OLED, LED, best tv for next gen

So I just downloaded the st60 break in slideshow thing. Here's my question: I'm no videophile, so if I mix in this slideshow along with normal viewing, then use a custom profile (specifically d-nice's), will I really be cheating myself out of optimal viewing pleasure? In the thread he posted on another forum, he basically made it sound like you could only use his settings if you did the break in starting at 0 hours with his slide show.

D-Nice states that so there is a consistent method and there can't be claims made against the results if they don't follow his method specifically. It's for people trying to get close to a D-Nice calibrated picture without him actually doing the calibration.

Now if you are simply wanting to age the phosphors for doing your own calibration or are having it calibrated, then there's no harm in watching stuff during the break in slides. You can even do it if you use his settings, but you can't expect to necessarily have the same results as following his method to the letter.

The real key - watch a wide variety of stuff that fills the screen and avoid static images. Whether you do that in conjunction with slides, on its own or just slides is up to you.

Are you planning on professionally calibrating this set?

I plan on doing the slides along with regular viewing. No professional calibration, because like I said, I'm no videophile.

I'm mainly wondering if there will be actual, noticeable differences since I'm not doing 100% slides. I mean, if I get 90% out of this TV, I won't worry about the other 10%.

has there been a thread about Panasonic pulling out of the plasma business?

gonna be hunting for a new panny before prices go through the roof. oled tvs aren't coming down in prices fast enough:(

So it turns out I do actually have some minor clouding on my new Sony KDL-50W656A. It is really only noticeable if I turn of almost all lights in the room and view a very dark image. Especially the lower right corner is a little lighter than the rest of the screen. I have done some quick googling and some speculate that this is basically unavoidable with edge-lit LED TV:s in larger sizes and that it can be found on the higher end W8 and W9 series as well.

It would be great if anyone here has any insight into this. Are there any other owners of Sony W6/W8/W9 series here that experience a similiar issue?

No need to speculate. That is just how edge lit LCD is and there is nothing you can do about it other than exchanging the TV or panel and hope to get a better one.

Has any one had any joy with projectors for Gaming? My LG Plasma is retiring to the bedroom, and the lounge is getting a new Sony VPL-HW55ES projector, mainly for movies against a 92" motorised screen, but I would be interested if anyone has got the previous model (VPL-HW50ES) and has had any luck with it.

Don't know if there is a thread but sad day for sure. Glad I got a ZT60 when they came out. Looks like that will be their swan song which is fine cause it will last me the 1 or 2 years I'm going to wait until I hop on the OLED's to come down in price.

Doesn't matter really. Even if you follow it to a T it will never be 100% the same. a display of the same make, model, and size can have a variance of up to 20% when it comes to readings so settings will vary from display to display. This might get you close or it could be spot. That's why settings don't really transfer from 1 display to another.

In the end I couldn't find the lesser Samsung I wanted, so I went with an LG 39LN5300 based on user impressions and budget and wow.

Just wow.

This thing is amazing. I thought my 720p was enough, but this is like, all the p's, and the size is just right, and it seems there is even LESS lag/latency compared to my old set.

A damn shame I have to do a couple days of breaking in before I really play games on it (I should stop posting this but DAMN), but I'm sure I'll survive since I'll be watching Breaking Bad for the first time.

My god... so many p's... I UNDERSTAND NOW

I got the S60 tv yesterday. I’m never buying a tv over 30” online ever again. I think I’ve been spoiled by the service of UPS/FedEx/DHL . Let’s just say thank God that the tv was in a smaller box inside of the shipping box.

This is a gaming board so I’m only going to talk about gaming. I tried to play gtv first. There was noticeable lag in the game (game mode not on) driving a faster car was noticeably more challenging.

I tried “journey” next, a slower game, to see if I noticed lag. I didn’t

http://flic.kr/p/gApAiq

I then connected my pc, the tv detected that it was a pc and adjusted a lot of settings. Some for good others for bad.

http://flic.kr/p/gApgXW

I didn’t notice any display lag with any of the pc games I played. The lag from gta 5 maybe from the added milliseconds of the tv up scaling the 720p signal to 1080p?

http://flic.kr/p/gApNHU

I had to turn off overscaning on the TV because it was cropping the video even when the pc was displaying its native 1080p resolution. Also tried 21:9 resolutions and down sampling to see how the tv would handle it.

S60 or ST60? Shouldn't be any delay with the S60. It has very little lag and I don't even think it has game mode. Did you have any processing effects turned on?

I want the W900, but it's 55". I can get a plasma at 65" for the same coin, but I plan on using it for heavy PS4 and Steambox gaming.

Fucking first world problems.

S60 out of the box settings. I needed to see a baseline then start changing settings from there. There was and still is lag in gta 5 after i played with the settings. gta 5 was the only 720p game I tried, I'll see if i have more that are fast and 720p to see if its an up scaling issue.

So, I still have a CRT. And I'm going to wait for black friday to buy an HDTV.

I want Plasma, of course, my question is, which one should I buy? I don't want anything over 50 inches and I don't want to pay $1000. So my options are 50'' S60 or 50'' ST60.

The ST60 seems to have more features that I don't know if I'll use, but they don't hurt either. It seems to be 3D, which I absolutely don't care for.

So, should I take the plunge on the S60 then? Which one has better image quality?

I saw the new 65" W850a today at Best Buy. He said he had just put it out for display that same day.

I took a picture as proof, not for any quality analysis.
Despite the picture, the black levels did not look as dark as the 55" W900a right above it.

My current tv is 55" like the one on top.
It's crazy how the extra 10" makes it look tiny.

I'm in the same boat, but I'm about to pull the trigger on the W900a. Indecisive as hell though.

I just tried the MGS:rising demo. It's 720p, fast, and requires timing. Was able to parry the boss without issue. So I take it that GTA V always had input lag I just never noticed it until I looked for it.

Another issue with my Panasonic s60. There's these grey lines, particularly noticeable when browsing the web. They don't appear all the time so it's not burn-in.

It's hard to see on my tablet camera, but it's very noticeable in person and there's lots of them (I circled an example). Don't know if this is "normal" or what.

I had this to you have to play with the settings a bit for it to go way. It's one of the settings that's used to protect the tv from burn in, Cant remember which.

That is because MGSR is 60fps. Cuts down input lag a lot.

lol no.

Line bleeding is inherent to the tech. No setting will change that.

I was going to buy the 32 w650a from Sony but at $650 I don't think it's worth it. I know it has great input lag but meh.

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BCGRVSU/?tag=neogaf0e-20

This Samsung has 25ms input lag and is only $375 on amazon. I'm going to wait a month to see if it drops a little more for BF or cyber Monday.

I'm finally going to have a 1080p television...I guess it's time to re-watch all my blu rays.

Hey guys, what do you think about Panasonic TC-P65VT60? First I was going to buy ST but after some time decided to go with S model because of the input lag. Now I really want to go with VT and was wondering what are your thoughts about this model.

I have a 50" ST60 and am getting a 65" VT60 delivered on Tuesday.

I absolutely love the ST60 so if the black level is even better I will be a happy camper.

Also for me the input lag on the ST60 is not a factor at all.

I have heard many positive things. Even though it also had other improvements you must decide if you find it worth it with the input lag. It still might be the best in its price class.

Does anyone know if this site ships to Canada and if so, how much would charge for shipping?

http://tvsuperstores.com/Panasonic_...D_Plasma_TV_64_7_Diag_4278.html?refid=Grabber

The site mentions free shipping for orders over $500, and also includes a free wall mount for the TV. Incredible value when I compare the price to everything else I can find online.

I'd order it right this instant if I could confirm that it ships here.

edit - Or this one would work too.

what can a native 120hz display do for a console system or a next gen console system like a PS4/X1?

I know with a PC, you can set a game 120hz and send out at 120hz to the monitor...but since that option is not available, and there will be no games available for console users that run at 120fps...what would/can a native 120hz monitor do to a 60fps console game feed?

are there settings on most 120hz displays that can benefit console games?

Got my Panasonic 50" GT60 on Friday. Really loving this TV. Wipeout HD looked amazing and I've been playing Beyond today which looks unreal.

So I just got a really good deal on a Panasonic 50" ST50 plasma. It'll be used almost exclusively for gaming. Is this a good choice for me?

I know it's last years model, but the Panasonic ST60 is a lot more expensive. Any major updates over last years model, or will I be good for next gen with the ST50?

EDIT: Just read through the thread, looks like I'm buying :)

The W900a is back up to $2,800 at bestbuy. Makes me a feel slightly better about "only" spending 2,000 on mine.

It's a beautiful display though and I'm extremely impressed after using it for a week.

I've mainly been playing GTA V, but yesterday I ran through a few chapters of Vergil's Downfall (DmC DLC) through my PC and it looked incredible in 1080P at 60+ frames.

I'm leaning towards picking up Dragon's Crown (even though I already have it on Vita) and Beyond:Two Souls to try next.

Can't wait to play PS4 on this thing!

Paul's TV is having some good deals for anyone wanting to buy Panasonic plasmas. They are an authorized dealer. You can find coupons on Fatwallet. By going through Fatwallet you can get 2.5% cash back. Codes expires on October 18.

For instance:
Panasonic TC-P55VT60 = $1999.98 + Code FALL27. Price $1599.99

Panasonic TC-P60VT60 = $2399.99 + Code FALL28. Price $1799.99

Panasonic TC-P65VT60 = $2700 + Code FALL30. Price $2399.99

Depending on state you won't pay sales tax and get free shipping. Sales are also for the ST and ZT as well. From what I've read on the avsforums Amazon and Bestbuy will price match it.

The price for the 60 inch VT60 is a ridiculously good.

Those are some absurdly low prices for the VT. Might have swayed me towards plasma if I could have gotten a VT for that cheap a few weeks ago.

Jeez, I need to stay away from this thread now that I've settled on my tv.

Wait, I can't see the discounted price for the ST60 at Paul's TV. Can anyone tell me what it is so that Amazon can price match it? I'm overseas and Amazon is the only one that takes my international card.

Code FALL9 for the 55 inch ST60 - $1349.99 to $1279.99

Code FALL10 for the 60 inch ST60 - $1499.99 to $1299.99

Code FALL25 for the 65 inch ST60 - $2399.99 to $1949.99

Not great a deal compare to the VT series.

I need a new TV for my living room (still have crt sony older than me there) and I want to get something that's preferably 60 inches since the room is large. There are also glass doors and windows on the right side wall from the TV and could directly throw light at tv which would be minimized by curtains and blinds. I'm leaning towards plasma because everyone suggests it and is I think cheaper at that size but I dont really have like 2k euros to spend, not sure if I can go for 1k even. So maybe I can't get top of the line Panasonics so can you guys tell me what to look for in a tv spec wise?
I'll be traveling from abroad home with a car and will be buying it abroad too (Germany most likely) since it's cheaper and better quality so I can't really be set on certain model (unless I find a store with it ahead) so when I see the options I'll google it but i wanna know what all the specs should be, 1080p, x hz? X ms and that sort of things.
I leave in few days and any help would be great.

We dont watch much tv at home, dont even have cable for HD channels (an hour every few days maybe, but I expect it would change with new one but not drastically) but tv will be used for movies and tv shows on bluray and through usb, I play ps3 and 360 and plan on getting ps4, possibly play games from my PC on it too.
I've bought random toshiba 40" tv for my vacation home and it was like 350euros,led 3d etc and it looks amazing so I'm not much of a videophile or knowledgeable in this area but still dont want to buy just anything or some crappy plasma that will cause me more issues than good.

Omg. Just did it and bought a 65" VT60.

It'll be here mid-week.
Got Best Buy to match Paul's TV only if I bought the warranty which I had planned on anyway.

Holy crap, I got it for $2500 this weekend, in AUSTRALIA! What happened to Australia being more expensive than everywhere else? :P
Although mind you some other shops in Oz still have it for $3500.
