PlayStation 4 Pro |Launch Thread| PS4 Reloaded

Bucca

Fools are always so certain of themselves, but wiser men so full of doubts.
Anybody playing TF|2 Pro on a 1080 display that was previously playing it at launch with regular PS4?

Was wondering if the IQ bump was noticeable enough to make it worth picking one up.

I was and I just popped TF2 in to my Pro.

I can without a doubt say TF|2 looks so fucking clean on the Pro compared to the OG.

You can especially notice it when you're viewing your pilot on the loadout. It looks hella clean.

Only had a chance to try Infamous: First Light so far.

There are two options: 1080p with a near-locked 60fps, or higher resolution at an unlocked framerate (with 30fps toggle option).

My favourite is actually the higher res mode with the 30fps lock. It looks stunning, and the detail is absolutely incredible. The benefits of the higher resolution are even more clear with the draw distance - with neon signs in the distance still looking pin sharp with no aliasing.

Took me 90 minutes to transfer 350GB - are you using a gigabit LAN cable?

The countdown starts off with a huge number and then shrinks enormously as it transfers.

Mine started at 12 hours on backup and ended at around 2 hours.

Installing the current games I'm playing now and loading up my saves from the cloud.

First impressions, the console looks better than the press shots. Its not near as bad, thoug its still nothing compared to my One S in the looks department.

Second, its quiet. Mafia III had my OG model running like a steam engine, this has been quiet as can be.

Both settings work in HDR? OK, now I'm confused. I thought HDR was the RGB setting only. I guess I'll go Automatic and hope for the best.
Yep. Both settings work in HDR. Automatic should give you the best option. It gives me RGB then when a game starts with HDR it gives me Color format YUV 4.2.2 instead if 4.2.0.

If I'm keeping both PS4s, there's no disadvantages to keeping my OG PS4 as primary other than not being able to play digital games offline right? I want to be able to share my PS+ with other accounts on the OG while I use my account on the Pro.

Picked up the Pro last night from GameStop, spent most of the night/morning re-downloading my digital games that I want to try out on the Pro. So far I like the design on the console, a little bulkier but it's nothing negative. I also like how the rubber foots on the bottom are in the shape of the main controller buttons. Nice little detail.

So I'm transferring data from my old PS4 to my new one, and the screen went black. There were about 60 minutes remaining. Should I just let it do its thing?

Edit: never mind. Unplugging the HDMI cable and putting it back in worked

Have you tested with the included cable? Older longer cables might have trouble hitting 4K resolutions. It doesn't seem like you should have the HDCP issue others have

Yes.

Now that it works, I see this in my Video Output Information screen:

That's good, right? Or should I be concerned about that text at the end?

I'm looking forward to this. I'm glad I un-cancelled my twice cancelled pre-order. I'm rewarding myself for a rough two weeks for me. I'm giving my old PS4 to my niece and nephew. I don't need three PS4's in my house.

Well congratulations! You got yourself caught!
I've tried everything and just cannot get the move controllers to pair with the Pro. They kept starting the old Playstation so I've reset them on the back and all they are doing is just blinking.

Very frustrating

Think you have to plug them into the pro directly via USB to sync them.

PSN downloadspeeds are abysimal. 87 hours to download a 30 GB game.
I'm connected via LAN directly to my modem and got a 100 Mbit/s internet connection. What the hell is this crap, this can't be real.

My thoughts as well on the aesthetics. Shots of it are really unflattering, but seeing it in person and with the light bar on it looks pretty nice. However, it looks outdated and ugly sitting next to my One S.

Other thoughts are that it would be nice to get a system notification when a game has enabled Pro mode, or is currently supporting Pro. I know I should just be able to tell if a game is running in 4K/checkerboard, but without a point of reference to compare to it's not as clear.

Yeah sounds like for those of us wanting to use two systems we will have to log on as separate users which really sucks. This means my wife can't watch PS Vue upstairs while I game downstairs.

I tried that. Its like it isnt getting power. When i plug the power cord in i can hear electricity static, so i know the cord is trying to give the ps4 power.

What does the pro look like with the cord plugged in. Is there a light??

Try a different outlet if you can.

Traded in the old PS4, got a new Pro this morning. Set it up quickly, no problems. Noise isn't an issue at all (but then, it wasn't for me on the original PS4, either). Controller seems a bit better than the original at first glance, though I haven't had much time with it.

Loaded up Skyrim. I had forgotten to save my mods, so I had to re-download and install those. I didn't notice any huge visual difference so far (I'm on 1080p), but I only spent a minute on the screen, it was in a pretty bleak environment, so maybe I'll notice more differences later.

Anyhow, all good so far. No issues, no complaints. Makes me want to buy a 4K TV, though.

I'm not sure if this is just in my head but playing unpatched games on the pro on my 4K tv with res set to 2160p seem to give games a cleaner look. I can barely see any jaggies in Dark Souls 3, fps is exactly the same though. Or maybe it's just all in my head, have anyone else noticed this?

Was gonna wait on himself but decided to order it last night after a gaffer posted a deal from eBay.

Should be arriving next week. Thinking about if to set this up next to my PC or living room tv...hmmm.

Pro won't do 4K through my amp for some reason which is weird because I can put my pc in 4K which is plugged into the amp.

PC has no HDCP 2.2 requirement, so that's probably why it works and your Pro doesn't. You have to check if your receiver has that support.

Thanks for the impressions!

These looks fantastic.
Now I'm sad that DC will never get a pro patch. We could have photomode iq during gameplay... :(

Hell yes That game MUST get a patch.
Never say never, Rushy has said that it can be implemented. Just pray to the god in your faith and ye shall receive
What god? will pray.

It would be interesting to see a comparison shot with the regular PS4 of Ratchet and Clank.
Regular looks really good to now.
But on Pro it's like an animated movie.

I tried that. Its like it isnt getting power. When i plug the power cord in i can hear electricity static, so i know the cord is trying to give the ps4 power.

Did you put the powercable in deep enough?

If you want improved IQ on a 1080p TV you don't have to change any system settings, right?

Nope.

Well got it all set up, swapping hard drives etc no worries.

Biggest surprise so far is that super sampled 4k on a 1080 screen is far better than either of the other two modes... especially as relating to graphics. I thought the graphical mode would have a decent AA but there's a lot of shimmering that disappears in 4k mode on a standard screen.

So to transfer data between my old PS4 and my new PS4 Pro, I can just hook them up via Ethernet (without having to go through a router)?

Are they fucking joking right now come on. Five fucking hours?

54AaiGE.jpg

Give it a few minutes and it will decrease but it will take 3-4 hours for nearly 700 GB to transfer.

I'm doing a 365 GB transfer and it looks like it will take about 2 hours total.

Edit: Actually it will probably go quicker than that as I have been transferring for about 45 minutes and and I'm about 45% done.

Can you do a system transfer while doing Vita remote play? I only have one monitor available and would be doing the Ethernet transfer.

At the very least, I can swap inputs I guess.
