PlayStation 5 apparently broke records in Brazil Black Friday (sold '59 PS5 Eiffel Towers')

During Black Friday 2024, KaBuM!, a major Brazilian e-commerce platform, announced it had sold enough PlayStation 5 consoles to match the combined height of 59 Eiffel Towers. This creative comparison highlights the scale of their sales success during the event.

chatGPT estimate:

Final Answer:

59 Eiffel Towers are approximately equivalent to 54,419 PS5 Slims (rounded).

On Amazon BR PlayStation 5 was also the main seller in videogames.

I mean, let's be real:
This black friday I kept looking at deals, cheapest I saw a PS5 was R$ 2.600 (430 USD), that was a slim model + disc drive reader + 2 games (Returnal and Ratchet) bundle, it's normally around R$ 3.600 ( 600 USD ), it was a damn good deal.

I've also been looking for a Xbox Series or One S/X/Whatever.
Here's the kicker, Series S used to be around R$ 1.600 (264 USD), it's now MSRP R$ 3.600 (600 USD), It's up for R$ 2.600 (430 USD) on Amazon right now and a Series X has a R$ 4.500 MSRP (742 USD). I kinda wanted to pick one up but at that price it's not a good deal. So by comparisson the PS5 is a better deal just because of MSRP increase and no deals, therefore, I completely belive PS5 dominated this black friday here (Don't believe fully in the eifell tower quote though)

Amazon BR estimate sales:

PS5 Slim digital: 20000
PS5 Slim Disk: 8000
PS5 Pro: 600

Kabum numbers can be true, because they have offering PS5 for a better price than Amazon. Others retailers like Shopee and Mercado Livre probably have done similar numbers or better.

Brazil is a much stronger market for Playstation than I think.

Funny enough, 360 dominated Brazil

That's a weird flex lol. Length of consoles sold!

Did it beat out the master system in actual sales is all I want to know.

2600 BRL is a really good price for the console. But i've used some years of saving to upgrade my PC instead
Yep, 2600 BRL is really good for a PS5 but in the long run PC is the better option, as a brazilian i m ditching my PS5 to go full PC once more, there is no regional prices and 99% of the time discounted and new games ll be a lot cheaper on Steam.

It's a shop in Ciudad del Este. Brazilians who live close to Paraguay travel there to buy stuff because brazilian taxes are insane. It's so much cheaper in Paraguay, taxes are much lower.

One of teachers in my university set up a trip with students in a place closer to Paraguay and already sold off its the best place for them to buy.

My PS5 was also from Kabum.

You guys need a little context for this.

-Black Friday Kabum was selling PS5 Digital Edition for R$2.999,90 (Real)
-Some period of day, Kabum give discount ticket, between R$150 and R$250, but they are limited for using number.

I got my regular PS5 slim for like R$3400,00. I got a R$150 discount ticket for reduce the price to R$3250,00, but those tickets expire super fast. You need to be very fast or use a bot to watch those deals.

Brazil is a huge market, top 5 for Microsoft and Steam and probably Sony as well.

At Amazon Brazil, the PS5 models combined have sold ~35k last month.

It's astonishing that Xbox haven't even tried in its third Market (and second market for cloud gaming according to Phil Spencer). Series S was almost the same price as PS5.

If i remember it right MS was actually using Brazil as a talking point in one of their quarter results a few years ago...and then they just gave up.

But also, let's not forget Series S were also a lot easier to produce and MS was selling them when PS5 was unavailable. As soon PS5 was everywhere, Xbox stood no chance and Microsoft knew that. That's probably why they aren't even trying that much.

Not anymore now that USD to BRL value is skyrocketing

The mercado libre estimates put the numbers on that store at around 25k sold.

We’re looking for a 100-150k PS5 units sold in Brazil.

We might be looking at big numbers for November

Yeah this is crazy. Considering how much MS has given up on the Series consoles. Really bad timing for them.
