How’s the latency on this thing in general?

Does it look better with the Pro?

I can't tell a difference if I'm using my console to stream, or their cloud servers.

As long as you are getting good wifi signal it's very responsive and feels like I'm playing local. Or there isn't enough difference to tell. I used Doom Eternal to stream forna while since it is fast pace, frenetic action.

I don't have a PS5 Pro but I was tempted to buy one today in Walmart when I seen it sitting alone as the only console in the whole store 😳 ( they had about 5 PlayStation Portals though)

As far as latency go I can say that I used it as a second controller when my nephew came by one day & beat him easily in Tekken 8 & Mortal Kombat One while he had the controller & TV.

And is behind both the Quest 3s and the Quest 3, which Neogaf happily reminds us continuously are tiny niche products.

When does the streaming beta go live? And is it one of those invitation-only things or available to anyone using premium?

Funny how by making it more useful than a wii u gamepad it suddenly seems cool

Outselling the Pro and PSVR2 lol. That's telling :(
Right now it's above even the standard PS5 but that's probably because people know it will be cheaper for the next month or so .

It was number 51 earlier today but jumped to 25 that's most likely people buying it for PlayStation + now .

Too bad I’m giving this one to my brother…

They'll probably be on available tomorrow.

Is it going on sale this holiday?

Doubtful.

PS5 Pro has Wifi 7 but does it also have a upgraded Ethernet port?

What would you expect them to upgrade on the ethernet port? It's already a gigabit ethernet port.

It's already live. Anyone can get it. I think it is far more useful as a cloud player than a remote player. I'm not surprised by the increased interest here.

The same could be said about them going from Wifi 6 to Wifi 7 . Wifi 6 is also close to the speed of gigabit ethernet so I would guess that if they upgraded the Wifi they would also do the same for the ethernet port, I just never checked to see.

WiFi 7 improves range, reduces latency, and has a wide frequency range.

None of this applies to ethernet...

Awesome, and I agree, what we really wanted was a dedicated handheld and while this isnt exactly that, its a good in between than just keeping it locked as a peripheral

Do you really have to turn hdr on and off each time you switch between console and portal?

Super annoying

Also lack of Bluetooth????

What were they thinking

I think the HDR glitch only impacts people with certain TVs with HDMI CEC issues.

Lack of Bluetooth is a consistent choice for Sony. Combination of Bluetooth latency issues and them wanting to sell their own headphones.

I personally use Bluetooth headsets connected to my LG TV when I'm playing PS5 games and have never really noticed much of a latency issue and you'd think that would be way worse than connected directly to the system.

Bluetooth has interference with Wifi on a lot of devices so it's probably best that they used Link but who actually has Link devices? Lol

Oh my god. First pc lords turn to steam deck from a 4090 ti and now ps5 pro users play their games on this thing.
But bitch about 4k 60 rt lol.

Its like me watching everything on my phone with 4 tvs in house.
Man we are lost

People are willing to sacrifice quality for portability.

You can't always take your computer or PS5 Pro somewhere.

As soon as it was revealed that the PS5 Pro didn't have link integration, I was out on PS Pulse devices for the generation. Maybe they'll learn their lesson with the PS6.

Apple has been doing this with airpods for almost a decade...

Doesn't change the image much, but the latency feels improved and the connection speed is much, MUCH better than it was with my launch PS5
Resolution won't be noticeable, but graphical settings, image quality, framerate will look better with a Pro though.

For example, there is a noticeable difference between 120hz turned on or off in Blops6 (even though Portal screen is 60hz) and FFVII Rebirth in Performance Smooth looks a tad bit more blurry than Fidelity.

Basically, everything apart from resolution that would be noticeable on your tv, will be noticeable on Portal.

And with yesterdays update, the difference in stutters and IQ is almost night and day.

Edit:

Just realized the difference in IQ in FFVII between Performance Smooth and Fidelity is because of resolution, so it's definitely noticeable.
Which makes sense, because RP is just projecting your TVs output onto Portal. As far as the console is concerned, it's rendering on whatever tv you got hooked up.

Awesome device. I'm in another country atm , 1500 km from home, and the experience has been pretty good. Wired PS5, 5Ghz Wi-fi.

Yes a piece of hardware that's on sale for 200 bucks is selling more than a piece of hardware selling for 700 dollars.

Thing is...i thought the narrative when this was announced was that it would flop?
Imagine the poor casuals who just buy without reading and think it’s a proper console and don’t realise you alsoneed a PS5!
Except you don't. You just need a PS Plus Premium subscription.

It really was, lol:

Thread 'PlayStation’s first Remote Play dedicated device, PlayStation Portal remote player, to launch later this year at $199.99' https://www.neogaf.com/threads/play...-to-launch-later-this-year-at-199-99.1660141/

Older posts are fun to read sometimes, lol.

Also, I I'm a little biased since I specifically asked them to make this product through a couple different focus surveys (retail partner & consumer/player.) It made lots of sense to me since I had been using my Vita for remote play for years & found tablet remote play a pain in the butt when lying down in bed, lol

PS5 Pro widely available everywhere and not taking the top spot is the second week is not a good indicator… Already falled from a cliff in Japan.
PS4 Pro also "fell hard" and was never the main seller. It also didn't sell out anywhere btw.

edit:
PS5 Pro vs. PS4 Pro comparison:

PS5 Pro Week 1: 78.086
PS5 Pro Week 2: 13.878
Total: 91.964

PS4 Pro Week 1: 65.194
PS4 Pro Week 2: 11.116
Total: 76.310

Sounds like it's having exactly the same trajectory and at a much more expensive price.

Falled off? Do you mean fell off?

PS5 Pro is by invitation only in Japan. I tried testing this out at launch. Still haven't gotten an invitation yet.

The PS5 Pro was never going to sustainably be the top selling model of the PS5. You're ignoring that the largest quantity of people who wanted one would have pre-ordered it/purchased it on launch week.

The second largest quantity of people will purchase it for these holidays, and it should see a relatively large drop off in Q1.

For example I suggested that the PS5 Pro for sony to meet its expectations needed to sell 2-3 million units this fiscal year. If it sells 1.5 million units by the end of the calendar year it will likely reach that goal. To do that it needs to have sold close to a million units at launch.

Going forward you'd imagine that PS5 pro would account for 10-20% of the PS5's sales going forward.
