Are you serious?

Do you seriously believe a game with no name and without a teaser, not even a single image, was going to release on 2021? Are you that naive? Sony lied, it's a simple as.that. The game was never going to come out this year. You can't make a game like that in 3 years. The original took 5 years to make.

Assuming they green lighted a sequel in 2018 that gives you just 3 years to work on it. They weren't even able to release horizon which has 2 more years in development and looks like a PS4 game.

I will stick to my release date of fall 2022 at the earliest. More likely make 2023
The original actually took two years to make.

When they showed the E3 2016 demo, that's the only part they had developed at that point in time. Yes, the overall script/plot/setting was ready (but so it is for the sequel as Cory has prepared the story for three games together). Everything else -- mo-cap, level design, boss fights, etc. -- was developed b/w June 2016 and April 2018.

By the way, where are those people who were saying "Sony isn't having an event because they have nothing to show"?

Eh..that statement would hit harder if this event was announced a week or 2 after E3.
But let's keep it real..it's 3 months (a whole season) later after a missed opportunity to compete show-for-show at the most important time of the year.

You can argue "E3 doesn't matter anymore" etc..listen, Nintendo showed up for us. Microsoft showed up for us.
Sony didn't attend the ball because they weren't ready, period..which would be fine if they were honest about it instead of just doing nothing.

This is why their sentiment for this event is "You've been awfully patient and we thank you for that."

Better late than never, though.

Also, people seem to forget that Guerrilla spent pretty much a year making the Frozen Wilds DLC after the original released.

And also that the sequel was originally planned as PS4 only, so that's bound to have taken some time to redesign assets etc for a cross gen release, and then COVID. So there's no way a 'normal' Horizon sequel would've taken close to 5 years.

No, they could easily have a 60- or 70-minute event during E3 2021 as well. They could show:
  • Ghost of Tsushima Iki Island Expansion | Reveal + Legends Updates + Release Date Announcement
  • Death Stranding Director's Cut | Trailer + Gameplay + Release Date Announcement
  • Kena | Gameplay + Release Date Announcement
  • Horizon Forbidden West | Gameplay + Release Date Announcement
  • Horizon Zero Dawn | 60 FPS Patch Announcement
  • Genshin Impact | Update Details
  • Stray | Gameplay + Dev Commentary + Release Date Announcement
  • Solar Ash | Gameplay + Release Date Announcement
  • Jett Far Shore | Gameplay + Release Date Announcement
  • Sifu | Gameplay + Release Date Announcement
  • Deathloop | Gameplay Deep Dive
  • Tribes of Midgard | Release Date
  • Clid the Snail | Gameplay Reveal + Release Date
  • Hoa | Gameplay Reveal + Release Date
^ These are all the things that Sony has showed since E3 2021 time until now. They just didn't have an event and decided to disperse all this content into State of Play episodes, tweets, and blog posts.

And this list does not even include any new trailer or reveal that we haven't seen yet and could next week. They didn't have an event because they didn't want to. Lack of content, as we can see above, was never a problem.

Yessssss ! The countdown starts.
I'm expecting GT7 gameplay footage, a very short Trailer of GOW, and maybe something from Naughty Dog : they must show something or say something, it's almost one year from PS5 release, and they are one of the most Iconic playstation Developers.

In any case, I cannot wait, and I'm confident the Show will have the "WOW Factor".

I disagree a little bit just because that second conference last year we already had seen Demons Souls, RE8, Deathloop, Miles, etc.

So the only real surprise was FF16.

This year? Sony only has HFW shown. So they have kept a lot of cards close to their chest. There should be a lot more "new" and "surprising" announcements.

If the September show was the first showing for all those games I mentioned before it would have been seen as a total blow away type conference.
That's a good point. We still havent seen GoW or Factions/TLOU remake in action, and there is a small chance the remake might be taking full advantage of the PS5 unlike factions which seems to be cross gen. (Schrier's article mentioned how the remake was being built on the PS5)

But I think those are the only games we see this year that we havent seen before for the simple fact that their conference is only 40 minutes long. They pretty much have to give third parties 20 of those minutes like they did last year which leaves 20 minutes for GoW, Factions, TLOU remake, GT7. If this was an hour long conference like the June conference last year then I would've expected new announcements.

I really dont see what else they can show off from first party anyway. We can rule out insomniac, sucker punch, housemarquee, sony bend, and bluepoint since they all shipped games recently. Japan studio has been gutted. That leaves GG, SSM, ND and PD which are already showing last gen games and struggling to release them on time. I highly doubt they have a new IP ready to show.

But Microsoft was filled with 3rd party games that will come to PlayStation and CGI trailers because those games are FAR from done. That's not anything I want to see out of a platform holder event, I could see those games from their respective publisher and I don't want CGI trailers for games coming in two years or more.

This list basically explains why they weren't at E3.
Literally everything on that list besides the Ikishima DLC, Death Stranding DC, Clid the Snail and Hoa, we've either seen gameplay of, or got release dates for before E3.

Do you know how bad Sony would've looked if they showed up to E3 with Solars Ash's release date, Sifu's release date, Jett's release date, more Deathloop, Death Stranding remix, Ghost of Tsushima DLC, Clid the Snail and Hoa??

And this list does not even include any new trailer or reveal that we haven't seen yet and could next week.

Yeah, no kidding it doesn't include anything new because they didn't have anything new (or ready) to show at the time!
That's why they're doing an event 3 months after.

you need help, calm down.

3 years is enough with an established story and assets already made.

You're assuming they couldn't plan anything if the intention was to have a show. Knowledgeable people (including the ones on this forum) have said that Sony has a God of War gameplay trailer prepared for months now.

Throw in the God of War trailer and probably a Spider-Man 2 tease/title card, and that would have been a 10x better E3 than whatever Nintendo and MS had. Even if we didn't include GoW or SM2, this list is still much better than those shows: Horizon gameplay was more than enough as their showpiece item.

Ok I was going to clown you for the "..throw in a little this and a little that and Sony would've CLEARLY won" hindsight bit, but after reading the bolded text...just nevermind, you're clearly delusional.

Guerilla Games have a 2nd project they have been working on since 2018. That's 3 and a half years of development time which is enough to atleast show a teaser. It's not out of the ordinary to have 2 upcoming games announced from one studio e.g Miles and Ratchet.

Also since Akira Yamaoka already teased that a game would be announced which everyone is hoping to hear about in the summer, what would be better fitting than a Silent Hill Game.
Yes Yamaoka will work in the Silent Hill of Bloober Team, a horror announced this summer. The second game where Yakaoka was working for Bloober, a horror game of a popular IP for a big Japanaese publisher.

Yeah, but Insomniac has a history of doing multiple projects. And Miles was made because they couldnt do a full Spiderman sequel right alongside Ratchet. Had they been working full time on Spiderman 2, who knows if they couldve made Ratchet in 2 years.

Cory has also been working on a new IP since 2018. I believe GoW 2 has a different director. Do you think they will show that off too?

I dont know. If you read my predictions for the E3 conferences back in June, i too thought that the new IPs from SSM and GG would be at the show, but in a small 40 minute show? Maybe we get a 1 minute inengine teaser? But Sony doesnt do that anymore.

I think Bluepoint's MGS remake has a better chance at being there than GG or Cory's new IPs. In fact, they might end the show on the BP acquisition news with some footage of the MGS remake. Though that would rule out the TLOU remake since they likely dont want to be associated as a remaster console.

I'm super excited for this. Sony usually does not disappoint with whatever they show.

GIVE ME GOD OF WAR GAMEPLAY! PLEASE?

I'm not expecting much really.
I think we will probably see Horizon ZD, GT 7, a sneak peak of what Naughty Dog is doing, something from God of War and obviously Death Stranding.
I hope they don't just show trailers, I want to see gameplay...
And we know that VR is a no show...

Nevertheless, SURPRISE ME SONY!

The reason why I predict we will get a teaser for atleast 1 first party developer is because Sony don't have a single upcoming PS5 only game announced from their first party. Everything is cross gen.

PlayStation dropping this event reminds me of this old country song... it's pretty good.
Goes a bit like....

"Y'all know me, still the same ol' G
But I been low key
Hated on by most these ni**as
Wit no cheese, no deals and no G's, no wheels and no keys
No boats, no snowmobiles and no ski's
Mad at me
'Cause I can finally afford to provide my family wit groceries
Got a crib wit a studio and it's all full of tracks
To add to the wall full of plaques
Hangin' up in the office in back of my house like trophies
But y'all think I'm gonna let my dough freeze
Please
You better bow down on both knees
Who you think taught you to smoke trees?
Who you think brought you the oldies?"

I know that we aren't sure who the GoW2 director is, but as I remember Jaffe teased that its name will be a surprise and I assume that even Cory isn't directing it, he would be providiing feedback, overviewing, or something.

Regarding the other project that we know SSM is working on, do we really know Cory is directing it and that they have been working on it since 2018? What is the source? If that is the case it could be a late 2022 or -more probably- a 2023 game, which means they could at lease tease it here.

Guerilla Games have a 2nd project they have been working on since 2018. That's 3 and a half years of development time which is enough to atleast show a teaser. It's not out of the ordinary to have 2 upcoming games announced from one studio e.g Miles and Ratchet.
Yeah, but Insomniac has a history of doing multiple projects.
Yes, we know their big studios like ND, Insomniac, SSM or Guerrilla have been working in at least two games at the same time for a while. In the case of Insomniac, if we look at the ammount of games they released every year in the last decade it seems they work in at least 3 games at the same time:
2021 - 1
2020 - 1 (+ Spider-Man Remaster)
2019 - 2
2018 - 2
2017 - 0
2016 - 5
2015 - 4
2014 - 1
2013 - 2
2012 - 2
2011 - 2

With a since year as an exception, during the last decade Insomniac released at least one or two game every year, so it's fair to assume they will release another game in 2022. And if it's the case it would be logical to expect to see it announced, at least teased with a logo, in this stream. In fact, even if their next game is for early 2023 I think they may also tease it here.

Japan studio has been gutted.
Japan Studio was restructured and downsized, but they will continue making games.

Their internal 1st party game development part was downsized, changed their leadership, focused around Team Asobi, now is hiring again and will continue developing games under the Team Asobi label.

Their 2nd party publishing part, their XDEV Japanese team now will be under XDEV instead of under Japan Studio, will continue publishing games and their next project is Death Stranding Director's Cut.

DuskGollem has been right some times, but also proven to be a liar many times, as are many other 'leakers' who have been mentioning fake Silent Hill rumors (some of them even involving Kojima or saying Sony wa going to develop it for Konami) or summer Sony events that never happened, VGC maybe just believed some of these weak ass rumors. And to work during more than a year can be just on pitches, prototypes and small preproduciton stuff I mentioned, they only have a main project on production at the same time. Their next project with Yamaoka is Silent Hill.

I still think there are zero chances of Konami working on a 2nd Silent Hll in addition to the Bloober one. Nobody included you and VGC shown any solid clue leading to think it's the case. And maybe someone knew Yamaoka was going to work with Konami on a Silent Hill with an external studio so thought it was to be developed by a Japanese one instead of Bloober and told that to Andy, and then when realized it wasn't the case didn't want to rectify to don't look like a liar or something like that.

Are you tell me now that Japan Studio is working on it? That Sony has tons of bigger IPs and can create new ones but they want to develop a game for another publisher using an IP that sells way worse than the ones they make? That isntead of being working in the hack 'n slash horror game they shown recently Bokeh is working on a Silent Hill instead? That after getting Silent Hills cancelled and being fired from Konami Kojima will want to work again with them? Go with your tin foil hat to somewhere else.
Do you realize how stupid your arguments are? Imagine taking a serious outlet with a great trackrecord such as VGC and even suggesting that their reporting is full of bullshit lmao

There's absolutely no point in arguing with you anymore when all you do is act as if you knew more about Sony and their going ons than people with actual insider knowledge on the matter, and that includes me among all the journalists and legit insiders you just disrespected in that shitshow of a post of yours. Just shut the hell up, drop your idiotic reasoning of "Sony wouldn't do that because X, Y and Z", and listen to the people who are better informed than you, at least for once.

Stupid is to think a first party like Sony, Microsoft or Nintendo would develop a game for a third party publisher on an almost dead IP that never sold an important amount of units. They don't need to do it, they are publishers. And they have their own IPs that are more valuable than Silent Hill, there's no reason for them to develop games for Konami. Even more when this Japanese studio that according to these bullshit rumors has been downsized and fired most people who could have been working on it. And the fired people who could have been working for it now have their own small studio that working on another project that seems to be something like a horror version of DMC.

Stupid is to think someone with a giant ego like Kojima would work again for someone who fired him and in a game these guys cancelled it for him, specially in the context of Japan and how humilliating is for them to be fired. Or even to think all that stunt of firing him, setting Kojipro was all a PR stunt for later to make a suprise announcing they are still in Konami working in Silent Hills.

If a leaker would know there is really a second Silent Hill being developed by a Japanese studio they would say the name of the studio. But all Japanese studios who could work on it are or have been busy with other projects or like Japan Studio or Kojipro wouldn't work for Konami.

Yes, VGC has a good track record but like all the gaming press also has a track record on publishing fake rumors that ended on nothing or proven false. And to say Konami was working on a Silent Hill developed in Japan -specially before they announced their deal with Bloober- is something you can assume that sooner or later they may do with having zero insider info, like to say Capcom is working in a new Japanese Street Fighter, Monster Hunter and Resident Evil, that Nintendo is working on a new Mario, a new Mario Kart, a new Zelda, a new Donkey Kong or a Pokemon. And Square on new Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest and Tomb Raider. Sooner or later they will announce new games of these IPs, and almost always they have been developed by Japanese teams so it's a safe bet that will be developed by a Japanse team.

In the case of Konami they should say externalized because they don't have enough people to work on it since they are focused on mobile and other console games like PES/eFootball, Bomberman and Japan focused games. You can be thankful they are making a Silent Hill with Bloober. For them is a big effort for Silent Hill.
