PlayStation VR Launch Thread: Welcome to The Real World

Damn thought it only had 2, and that's the one thing I really wanted to see upgraded, hmm...

Oh I can believe it. Got so sick of USB hubs that I've been trying to make do with 2 ports. 1 charges a controller, the other is constantly swapping between VR and headset
Get a phone charger for the controller, that's that taken care of.

The reason I want that third USB-port is because my setup looks horrible when I use the ones in front. Now I only have to use them for backups and the like.

News keep coming in this morning.

19.99 in the US. (So 26.99 if it follows the trend in Canada). Was going to pass because Nov 29 is already FFXV and Steins;Gate 0. But at that price. Free Radical (well ex-devs from that studio) can get my money right away.

Nice! November 29th too. Damn. This one will have to wait. Hopefully, like usual, they have a table or two for free.

Wow..never heard of How We Soar till now.
Been feeling really down about the games that came out the last few weeks, How We Soar reminds me of the first two weeks of PSVR. The "looks good", "price good" "give it a shot" weeks.

I tried World War Toons twice and there just isn't much to it.

Since it is a free to play game, I had hoped that it would have a campaign mode along the lines of Zynga's Empires and Allies - which had a really in-depth single player campaign mode in which you had to build up your forces by playing through a very challenging set of missions and enemies, etc.

Now, to be fair, Empires and Allies is pretty much a straight rip-off of Advance Wars. But - it replicates the compelling rock, paper scissors gameplay of having to select your forces and deploy them against challenging sets of enemies.

From what I had seen on the trailers for World War Toons, I (wrongly) assumed that we would have to put together squads of soliders with pistols, soldiers with machine guns and soldiers with heavy artillery to do various missions in the game world (which seemed to have been set in a cartoon version of WWII Paris).

Instead, the entire game seems to be PVP and you only seem to be able to progress through your kill numbers on PVP.

I'm just not interested in a pure PVP game.

I beleive some dingle player content maybe coming, or at least dome missions or something.

Everytime I talked myself out of getting the PRO and started thinking about it's PROs and CONs the deciding vote always went to the rear USB port. It's been the best part of owning one.

No more stupid USB cable looped around the front.
No need to juggle ports for things like the Move Controllers when charging, the Gold USB Dongle and the CronusMax for my Elite controller.

Thinking about grabbing Tumble VR with my $10 credit. I've heard a lot of positives about it

It's a very good game.

We don't have a term for it but it's used as a half way VR experience at my house. Girlfriend wants to play something..she'll play Tumble, no headphones, while I am watching something on TV. It's a pretty relaxing game, you don't need to be all the way inside the matrix to enjoy it.

If you're still on the fence what really sealed it for me was the opportunity to easily swap in a faster and larger hard drive.

Once this bad boy (2TB Seagate FIrecuda SSHD) arrived from Amazon I popped by a Best Buy to get my Pro, went home, put it in the Pro then transferred everything from my OG PS4.

Going from constantly deleting/reinstalling/downloading games, patches and add-ons to having everything on the system with over 500GB free is so nice. When you consider the space the OS takes up you're actually increasing the PS4 storage almost 6 fold when upgrading to 2TB (compared to the OG PS4's 500GB drive).

Plus the SSHD should load everything faster than the standard drive that comes with the system, now that Hitman is fully downloaded again I'll put that to the test.

Got the PRO the day it came out homie.
Put the same model 2TB HDD I put in my PS4 into the PRO. So now I have 2 PS4's with 2TB's each. The old PS4 automatically became the "backlog" machine.

I know it has been said before, but since I finally got to try it myself; Playroom VR is so nice! The platforming game is really great!

I just tried to play Robinson again using Sea Bands. Still can't do it.

Took a couple of Ginger Pills and will give it another try in a half hour.
Not expecting better results...

Only good thing I can say is it looks incredible on the PRO. Huge improvement.

Do you have the smooth turning off?

Do you have the smooth turning off?

Is that the pie chart turning? I have that on. It helps a lot but it's pretty annoying trying to get in front of something. It's like a game into itself trying to position yourself in front of a button.

But it's the forward movement that fucks me up. I try looking at the sky when going forward and that makes it a little better. But I don't want to play the game when all I keep thinking about is how I am going to accomplish my next footsteps.

The newest patch for Robinson The Journey that was released the other day definitely did something to help with motion sickness.

I couldn't play it for more than 15 minutes before but now I can easily play an hour or more. I played about 1.5 hours last night and was finally able to get deeper into the game.

I really enjoy it and love the exploration.

If the posts I've seen since its release are any indication, expect a lot of issues (sound cutting out, screen going blank randomly). Although I guess when it is working properly, several games like PSVR Worlds and Playroom VR do get significant improvement.

This has been my experience. Games seem to run a bit better, but it has also been accompanied by intermittent audio and video drop outs. I've done the HDCP 1.4 change in safe mode and while I thought it had fixed it, I noticed the problem again today playing Batman with my son.

Is this referring to me?

I don't think I was saying to expect problems, but there are issues to be aware of coming from the OG PS4 to the Pro... along with benefits. I agree that the benefits outweigh the issues, but it would be a disservice to not acknowledge them. I've generally been quite pleased with the PSVR, and I appreciate the visual upgrades from the Pro along with the rear USB port so it's one less connection to worry about every time I want to use the PSVR. However, the recurring audio drop outs that I experience are annoying and it's something I hope Sony addresses.
I would guarantee these are not issues with PS VR, but rather the HDMI cable used. Audio and video dropouts are always due to a handshake problem or a signal dropoff, which can nearly always be attributed to the cable itself. Get some quality HDMI cables, like Blue Jean Cables or MonoPrice. Using the included HDMI cable with the PS4 Pro to connect to the Processing Unit should also do the trick.

A Few Questions:

1. Has anyone seen a link to HoloBall on the PSN Store? Supposedly comes out tomorrow...

2. When does NBA2K VR release? Saw above that it's $14.99. Great price...

3. Has anyone tried Pixel Gear yet? I hear some good things about the tracking....is the game worth ten bucks?

4. Was seriously considering hitting the buy button for Tumble VR. Didn't love it with the DS4 controller. I read that the full game has MOVE support. Is the experience much better?

1) It should popup tomorrow.

2. No idea.

3) Yeah. It's pretty simple but fun. Considering most games are > $20 for VR, it's worth it.

4) It works well enough. If you like the concept, go for it.

Do all psvr units have these wierd kind of dots in the screen in certain parts of vr games, like when the screen is black I can't see them but on some parts I can. Almost look like stars but all over the screen only in certain situations. It's definitely not dead pixels or anything like that.

Yes. That's a side effect of using an OLED display, and some games not allowing the screen to go reach 0 ire black levels.

Some do however (the PS4 menu before launching a game, if you look to the side, you can see it's perfectly black).

Sometimes I see random white dots towards the edges of the screen. Almost as if the scene is being rendered?

i have a question about move controllers. maybe somebody can help:
1) when i'm using them and i'm in a game, can i end the game and get back to the main psn menu using the move controllers? or must i hit the center button on a regular controller?

i just want to put in a plug for bound. man that game is gorgeous. i had been nervous about the controls and camera because it looks weird in videos, but when you're in control it plays great

1. Tomorrow morning, when the PS Store updates says Devs

2. Tomorrow, releases on all VR headsets says UploadVR.

3. Definitely worth the $10 tfor amazing tracking and future multiplayer DLC.

4. Yes, extremely better with move support, has a lot of levels worth the $10.

Yes, you can use the move controller to exit to the main menu, as a bonus you can navigate the menu with either voice recognition via the headset mic (just say playstation) or the move controller by holding the T button and swiping directions.

Yep, there's a Playstation button on the Move controller so you can access the OS at any time.

To move around the menus with it like you would with the Dpad or left analog stick, you have to hold the trigger on the Move controller down while turning the controller in the direction you want to go. It's clunky.

The move controllers also have a PlayStation button on them under the Move button.

I wouldve paid an extra $100 for a PS4 Pro with the PSVR connections already built in. My wire clutter OCD is driving me nuts with the stupid breakout box. Also the base cord on the headset needs to be about 5" longer so the extension box doesnt swing around and hit your ankles

This is one area that Apple does very well... I would embrace a single USB-C cord for the headset

Sea bands are bullshit pseudo-science, so...

Hope you guys weren't too fond of Vrideo. Just got an email saying they're shutting it down today due to lack of funding.

They banned me for uploading Brandi love porn so good riddance. She's an exquisite milf.

Well crap, that was the only vr video app on the PS4 with a decent selection of videos. I was kinda wondering what their business model was, maybe they were hoping some investors would see the numbers they pulled with PSVR's launch and give them another round of VC.

I guess I have to hope Youtube gets a PSVR app out soon.

Huh, was just watching some stuff on it yesterday and found a few cool 3D videos. I hope something much better replaces it in time however, it crashes all the time.

Fuck! Sony and YouTube need to hurry up and update the YouTube app and Media player app. I got banned too when I uploaded some porn too lol. Once they go down we are screwed since they are the only VR video app worth a damn.

Forward move goes where ever you physically look with your head to, and you can (slowly)side strafe in a pinch too, so you don't really need the right stick turning outside of bigger turns.
Granted that will not help with your front movement comfort issue, but all the same...
