So I'm considering getting a PS4Pro - mainly for the upgrade in VR visuals. Just have a couple of questions.

I don't have a 4K TV. Does that matter, or will I just not get prettier visuals on the TV?

What were the issues people were having with VR and PS4 pro? Were the issues widespread? I glossed over them at the time.

Not every Pro-patched game will look better on a 1080p screen, but many will. A couple games looked worse on the Pro, but they've been patched.

I think the biggest annoyance was that the VR breakout box doesn't pass through HDR, which isn't an issue for a 1080p TV. There were also some issues with HDCP 2.2 making the system blank the TV on occasion (happens to me once within 10 minutes of starting the system), but again only affects 4K TVs. Other than that, I'm not sure.

Cheers for the info.

I've ordered one! :)

Nope - the HDCP blackout issue happens on all TVs connected to the Pro.

However, IMO it's a non-issue. I get it once every hour or two and it lasts like 2 seconds. I have a 1080p Panny Plasma btw

I have a VR sitting in my cart, but keep pausing when I need to hit Checkout. Besides Resident Evil, I haven't been wow'd by anything else. If I'm on the fence, should I just pass until a big price cut or much better software titles?

You said you have only experienced RE at a friends house. There is no way you will be "wowed" by anything by simply watching videos. Read impressions throughout this thread. Try more games at your friend's house. Try out the demo disc. You really have to try all these games out to really see how impressive some can be.

If you cannot try them out, read impressions in addition to the videos you are watching (but you still aren't going to be "wowed" until you try them yourself). This thread and the PSVR Page on Reddit are loaded with impressions for nearly everything.

I thought it was better if you used HDCP 1.4, which shouldn't (afaik) restrict any 1080p content. Oh well, beta firmware is happening soon, I'll be sending lots of bug reports if it persists.

Can I chip in with a question on the same subject?

I'm considering a Pro for Horizon and Mass Effect. I've got a 4k HDR TV and PSVR.

An I right that the processing unit will pass through 4k but not HDR? So I could switch from a PSVR game to a 4k game with no cable-swapping, as long as I don't enable HDR?

Just got my PSVR this morning, and I'm wondering how you guys solved the problem of running the camera cabling? I bought the 2m extension, but I'm still about 2m short :/ My TV is up on the wall, but all my components are about 12' - 15' away. I have smurf tubes to run cabling, but the camera doesn't work with more than one extension :(

Anyone have an extension they've found that's longer? I need roughly 20 feet to fish it through my walls. For now, I can probably just run the cable straight to my Pro, but goddamn that will kill me to have cables running visible. Sorry, I'm a bit neurotic when it comes to cable management.

Well, technically it doesn't matter where the camera is in relation to the TV while in VR. All you need is a good mounting point that points at your gaming space. Do you have any other good options for mounting that work?

Just remember that your play area doesn't actually have to be in front of your television.

My camera is mounted on a stand about five feet to the right of the TV, facing into a convenient empty space where I can optionally stick a chair for seated games.

When I play, I adjust the stand to keep the camera at head level, about five feet away. The head and move tracking are absolutely accurate at that distance.

Agreed, I'm in the same boat. Played the RE7 demo at my buddy's house the other night, and it was impressive; but fearing that this will end up another peripheral going unsupported.

Should I wait for Gen2? Or is this going to be it for awhile?

So you simultaneously fear that it is a fad soon to be left in the dust and that an improved successor is right around the corner? You don't see any contradiction in there?

I can't predict the future to any accuracy, but there doesn't seem to be any way to vastly improve PS VR while the PS4 generation lasts, which is until 2019 at least, 2020 more probable. There might be a slightly improved revision with HDR pass-through breakout box or something.

As to VR fading out, I say it started not that long ago and Sony is selling all units they manage to put out. Games are coming out regularly and new announcements are made like every week. The list of upcoming titles is long and IMHO has several promising candidates. The existing titles already passed lifetime PS3 Move games library by far. Can't spot any dying here.

I'll tell you what I'd love (though it's highly unlikely) is a model of PS4 Pro that's PSVR ready and has the breakout box integrated. The extra hardware is my biggest gripe with the kit.

As far as the sale going on goes, I decided to bite on Pinfall FX2 VR, gonna check that out tonight at some point. I don't already own the vanilla game and enjoy some good pinball, so it should be neat. The reviews and feedback in this thread all sound pretty positive.

I'm still wrestling with whether or not to bite on the RE7 DLC (season pass). Love the shit out of the game in VR, just wondering if the stuff they're including is worth it or not. It's a shame that part of it isn't at all VR compatible. Admittedly, I'm a bit biased because of the DLC being available so soon after the game came out, suggesting they cut stuff to sell to us for more money.

Also, I wish we'd hear more about ARK Park. That's tops on my list of most anticipated VR games right now.

Ya'll saw this:
Playroom DLC Update

Just tried it. 1-4 players, no idea what the game looks like on the TV.

Starts off like RIGS.
Basically it's a turret shooter. Not the most impressive thing in Playroom but it has some nice scale as you are small and low to the ground.

And I forgot but DAMN, Playroom looks so fucking good via the PRO.
Everything looks so clean.

Ah that sucks.
Suggested it because I was able to get another VR extension cable for the headset and connecting those together works great. Nevet have to worry about not having enough slack if I sit on the couch

Wait, how did you do this? I'm highly interested in fixing not having enough slack.

Ok, I was actually wondering if that would work! I have plenty of places I could mount to the left of my TV. So it will work fine, even if I'm not head-on facing it? Not that it really matters I guess, but I really don't want to have to shift my furniture around every time I want to play a VR game, hah.

I would argue that lying about a non-existent defect in a cable to get a free cable is pretty shady.

Lets argue...
I told them I wanted to buy one. THEY WILL NOT SELL THEM. What can ya do..they sent me a replacement that probably costs them 10 cents to make.

I woulda gave them money..I mean in 2016 I gave Sony about 5 grand between TVs, consoles and games..whats another 20 bucks.

I wish I could buy another breakout box and leave it at our summer house. But for whatever reason they only RMA these things and Im not going to push my luck. Got the cable and I can sit anywhere I want now..good enough.

Did you try... I dunno... not lying? Just ask if they'll send you one due to your room layout needs?

I would have done the same, dont let the morality police get ya down.

Yeah, 4K 60fps will pass through the VR breakout box just fine, but no HDR.

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2016/10/03/playstation-vr-the-ultimate-faq/
Q: Does the Processor Unit support 4K and HDR pass through?
The PS VR Processor Unit (PU) supports video pass through so that you can enjoy regular non-VR content on your TV when you have the PS4 connected to the TV via the PU and the PU is connected to power via the AC adapter and the PS VR headset is not in use. This pass through support works for regular 1080p signals and also supports 2160p (UHD or ‘4K’) content in YUV 420 color format at up to 60 Hz from a PlayStation Pro.
However, HDR signals are not supported for pass through by the PU. This applies to both 1080p and 2160p HDR. If you have a HDR capable TV and want to view PS4 content in HDR, it is necessary to cable the PS4 directly to the TV.

Is the PSVR really sold out at most places? Or is there a production issue? Or are they pulling a Nintendo by only manufacturing small batches?

I have a buddy that wants to buy one but he has told me they're sold out at stores. I checked online and indeed they are sold out. So what's the deal?

You will need to face the camera unfortunately - so if you're using your standard TV+Lounge setup then it may not work.

I use a swivel chair, since my couch is a little too far from my TV unit.

When is the 3D video update coming out?

At this point I have accepted that Sony will never implement it. They have said nothing about this support, it's not even hard to implement so they clearly have a reason they don't want it on PSVR (fear of porn?).

I have to admit that I haven't touched my PSVR since the day I got it.

My living room isn't really conducive to the setup they expect. My couch is around eight feet from the TV stand. The cord for the PlayStation Eye is very short, so it can't go anywhere but on top of the stand. However, that's not close enough for it to see the headset. I can pull the camera closer onto the coffee table, but then its cord is stretched awkwardly across the room and it's still only just barely close enough if I lean forward all the time.

Add to that the baffling omission of HDR support on the breakout box, and this thing has been a configuration nightmare for me.

Just got an email from Sony saying the PSVR bundle is making a return this month (and in the link, actually says next week):

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2017...bundles-coming-this-month/?emcid=em-ph-101753

Also, looks like there's two choices for the bundle: One with VR Worlds, and one with Rush for Blood.

Edit: Actually, someone mentioned above about the bundles being at Gamestop, but I didn't take note as I thought it was just Gamestop doing their thing where they make their own bundles... But nope, they're the official Sony bundles.

I used mine on a normal PS4 for about a month before I bought a Pro and it makes a huge difference in most games from what I can tell. Rigs and Eve Valkyrie look particularly nice.

This chart is pretty handy

Grabbed Pinball FX2 in the sale and it looks amazing. Some really neat (though distracting) effects and there's something that just feels perfect about being able to look at the table from any angle at any time without having to futz with a camera setting. I'd rather have Pinball Arcade but I imagine licensing will never allow that.

Thanks! I should have RTFM!

I have another question/problem:

The 'TV' feed from my PSVR processing unit goes to my non-4k amp and then on to the TV from there. At the moment I get multi-channel PCM or high-res bitstream audio along with 1080p video.

If I upgrade to a Pro then I won't be able to send a 4k signal via my old amp; I'll need to go direct to the TV. This means that the audio feed will be via optical from the TV to the amp, which means DD5.1 audio is the best I can hope for.

Are there any HDMI splitters that would send 4k video and audio to one device, while stripping the video and just sending audio to another? Would I be able to put such a device upstream or downstream of the processing unit?

Thanks.

Is there dynamic resolution on re7 psvr? Seems like the image fluctuates a lot for me. At times it's decently sharp but then immediately turns blurry. And this is just me standing still and staring straight ahead.

I tried playroom vr and the kitchen off the demo disk. Despite the jaggies on the kitchen demo that actually kind of seemed sharper and much easier on the eyes.

Neither of those games seemed to have the same issue so I don't think it has anything to do with adjusting my headset or other things setting pupillary distance?

Note I'm on ps4 pro on 1080p tv if that matters

Yep. To me it was significantly more crisp, but I remember reading a lot of comments from people saying they didn't notice the difference.

Thanks, I also read on Reddit some guy saying about dynamic shadows when the flashlight is on, can you confirm it?

Would you all recommend getting the VR worlds bundle, or wait and get the Until Dawn one? I definitely want to play Until Dawn, but I know it can be picked up separately for pretty cheap nowadays.
