just a heads up, don't go to youtube and search for playstation vr and sort by upload date, you'll get lots of porn thumbnails.

Folks with PSVR that are experiencing motion sickness/nausea symptoms: have you guys tried using a pair of Sea-Band wrist bands before playing? There's a reviewer on Amazon saying it helped a lot with his Oculus Rift experience.

Curious. I might get one just to test, but I don't get nauseous that much. Anyone who tried it?

If someone thinks that most PSVR games are "experiences" I can only recommend playing Batman: Arkham VR. It's quite short, but it's definitely a real game and I would love to have a second Arkham VR game which is longer.

Job Simulator was basically unplayable for me due to not being able to put my hands down without them losing their shit. Is there any guides to this? Also in that game the coffee machine was inside my couch, anyone have that issue with games? Like the play space goes through my couch.

Gahhh. Real bummer cause I want to play JS so baddd

Yeah I can't seem to get my setup just right either. The world moves around a ton and my hands don't seem to be in the spot that they are really in. Never had an issue with Arkham VR.

I had a similar tracking problems yesterday, I'm trying again today 'cause the game is so much fun!

Maybe with more space around me... I'm just trying to undestando how to catch things behind me if the move can't be tracked when the light is hidden... mmm... maybe just rotate the head? I need to do more coffee

I just played Rez for the first time ever. And it was in VR. Holy Shit.
This game, Thumper, Superhypercube and Until Dawn have been my favorites so far. The Playroom VR platformer too but goddammit that one is way too short.

Before launch I'd read that the EU version was only getting 10 demos on the disc compared to the US's 18. When I actually got my PSVR yesterday there were only actually 8 demos on the disc and a couple of other things you could get from the PS Store.

So what gives? Are there actually more demos on the US units' demo disc, or did I get bad information? And if there are demos we didn't get on the disc in the EU, are they downloadable or do we have to make a US account or something?

Well I have to say I was very pleasently surprised by the harmonix music demo - what's with the hate? It was awesome stuff just drawing stuff in the sky in 3D. Out of interest, does anyone know if you can scale the brush? I assume you can. Overall I can see myself sticking on some 'popular chart music' and spending some time on that...how do I put my music (CDs) onto my PS4? I assume there's no way to link up amazon music?

Not quite sure about the comfort comments - universally this is said to be the most comfortable headset and whilst I;ve only tried DK2 and VIVE (at Thorpe Park) - VSVR is just so easy and comfortable with no pressure on the face.

And the optics? No issues from me, again, I can't compare to RIft and I only have minimal VIVE exposure - but the PSVR is amazingly good enough. Even just playing games in cinema mode was much better than I expected! Had a go on Matis Burn racing and it was like playing on a projector (best way I can describe it).

Loving this, and hopeful it's (a) way forward for games - we went from board games to 2D games on screens - then 3D games on screens - so for me I feel this is a natural progression...my only concern is the motion sickness, but I think I will get used to it...I know it's not the same, but I recall being totally put off by Mario 64 but returning to it a could years later I fell in love. Likewise with open world games, I just couldn't get into them initially then with RDR it all came together. With VR Battlezone really interest me but I am suffering a bit, but I can play DC and other games fine - I think maybe in a few months if I come back I will be fine because my brain (and body) will be more used to it.

Super comprehensive review of current gaming VR headsets. Many thanks to you, good sir.

I'll wait for Vive 2 then. Literally all I want is a comfier, less expensive version of Vive.

That'll be called PSVR - seriously, you're going by one person on here vs countless reviews out there!?

Folks with PSVR that are experiencing motion sickness/nausea symptoms: have you guys tried using a pair of Sea-Band wrist bands before playing? There's a reviewer on Amazon saying it helped a lot with his Oculus Rift experience.

wow, how utterly obvious - cheers for that! (no sarcasm BTW)!

Yes, just download the US demo disk from the US store

Yeah I can't seem to get my setup just right either. The world moves around a ton and my hands don't seem to be in the spot that they are really in. Never had an issue with Arkham VR.

Have you tried recalibrating the Headset and Moves ? What size space have you got too ?

I have it set up in the living room, so I have a few meters of space each way and the PSCamera on top of the TV. It all works very well, had no tracking problems at all so far, its been a really smooth experience, much more than expected tbh.

camera on TV or below it? my daughter played it last night and I heard no complaints, camera on top of TV - but I do hear that tracking when seated it seems better below TV

No, maybe I didn't express myself correctly: What I mean is that I want at least the level of quality/technology that the Vive has made cheaper. Not to make it cheaper by making compromises on the tech.

Basically I want the Vive's resolution and tracking, and of course the rendering power of my high end PC.

My move controllers were really jittery and it was bugging me. I had the camera placed on top of the Xbox One Kinect. I removed the Kinect and just had the PS Camera on top of my TV, and the jittering went away. Maybe it's something to do with infrared or something causing it?

Here is my experience with the headset so far.

Setup was a breeze. It took so more than 10 minutes and everything worked out of the box. Headset is extremely light and comfortable. Easy to set up but at first I had a lot of blurriness. Went into the settings in the os to adjust distance between my eyes and calibrate the eye and everything is way more focused. Be sure to do this.

Used the headset foe a number of things for about 2 hours with a short break in between. Don't feel sick. downloaded playroom vr and some video apps under experience. Apps were pretty low res but cool. Playroom was very fun. Popped in the PlayStation world disc and damn was blown away by the freaking menu! Presence was wonderful and using my klipsche earbuds 3d sound was wow.

Only got to try ocean decent. loved it. When viewing the scavenger menu the spinning globe with rocks orbittimg it was cool and I lost my shot when the rocks bounced of the controller.

I'm sold on the headset and tech. can't wait to try other games and see what's to come. Heading to bed. Peace

I wish they were less vague about improvements Pro will bring to PSVR

It's been out a day, the last thing they should do right now is start talking about Pro + PSVR 'cause it'd only confuse the majority of consumers (not the few of us in places like GAF that would care) probably doing more harm than good, and no matter what was said it'd spawn a shit-ton of click-bait articles taking comments out of context making it out like the regular ps4 isn't up to the job.

Just got done with my first real play session with my new PSVR headset. A few notes.

-Fuck, this thing is fun. I caught myself grinning more than once trying out the stupidest little games in the Playroom VR.
-Tumble VR is totally worth the $10 price tag. That game is super simple and fun AF. I can see casuals loving this thing.
-Rez Infinite... what can I say? It's bliss. A Dreamcast game is a VR system seller. Who knew?
-The screen is in fact shit, but I don't care. I see the potential here. VR is game changing (pun intended).
-Thumper is everything I thought it would be. Loud, in your face, and a great game I can't wait to try and ace to get on the leaderboard.

I love it. I can't wait to get back from work tomorrow to try out Batman and all the other games I bought.
Tumble was such a fun game on ps3 so i can imagine with vr it's even better

Put in some pretty epic time with PSVR already (12+ hours) and I can't see in any world how this could be true, sorry again I'm not sure I'd agree with this, my whole family have been using the PSVR without problem

Yeah that was nonsense... the only issue I had with mine was that the fit seemed to be really high up in my forehead to get the screen crystal clear. It's shaped to fit your forehead but I end up with the bottom of that part at about my hairline and the rest of the concave forehead bit is just suspended above, as if the average persons forehead is much higher up than mine (I'm pretty sure I'm about average lol).

My only other issue actually is headphones. I have the newer Sony wireless ones (wired up of course) but I need to raise the headband a little bit at the back to make the phones fit, the PSVR halo gets in the way. I do actually kinda wish the headset had an integrated audio solution now.

We downloaded the demo from the EU store and saw 15 different games. I believe the three missing games are Gnog, Harmonix Music VR and Within. I can't remember seeing those titles last night.

BTW the loading times of the demo app sucked.

If you're sitting down, you may want to stand up. That said, JS is probably the game I had the most tracking issues with.

Got my headset in today some impressions:

Comfort
Super easy to dial in the right fit. I really like that i can easily pull away the viewer to look around in the real world if I need. This + elite pulse headphones will really fuck up my hair every time.

Screen
Blur. I can come to terms with resolution, but in some places things seem needlessly blurry. Up close objects, distance views, and all of Driveclub.
Dark pattern. I don't know what this is, but there is an odd pattern across the screen in some dark scenes. This is very noticeable in Until Dawn. Compare that with the blackness when viewing the home screen.
SDE. I don't have a ton of experience with other headsets, but my guess is the effect is minimal here.

Tracking
Jitters and pulsing headset. This is with lights on and off. It didn't bother me nearly as much as I thought it would. I still found it strange that it was happening though. When I tried out PS3 Tumble in 3d a few days ago, it didn't seem as bad as what I was experiencing today,
Headset drift. Headset for some reason drifts from center pretty often. Calibration doesn't correct this in game, so I end up having to shift my angle a bit.

Motion Sickness
For the most part, I felt great throughout the extended sessions of Until Dawn, Rigs, and Driveclub. It wasn't until I played more hilly tracks and casually drove around that I really started to feel it. I think at slower speeds my body is more familiar with what to expect, and that caused some issues.

Games

Until Dawn. Played the demo and the first 3 tracks. Very immersive, love the dual wielding. It felt like being on an awesome amusement park ride. Level 3 boss was a bit bullet spongey.

Rigs. Demo + first couple league matches. After training, I turned off all the comfort options and it felt really great to play. Looking forward to digging in more.

Driveclub. I never played the original, so for me, this game is packed with content. For the most part everything feels great. Pulse headset + t500rs wheel make this an incredible experience. I think this game is too blurry. Maybe it's the lighting or some other effect, but it looks consistently more blurry than other games. Also, I can't stand the dynamic lighting/brightness/contrast. Especially with VR, interiors are even more visually important, and it mostly looks like blackness unless I bury my face into it. I would also be interested in an option to turn off the horizon lock, the game feels oddly smooth at times.

Playroom VR. The platformer is wonderful and I wish there were more offerings like that at launch. I think plenty of third person games can work very well with a carefully curated camera.

Rez. I only played a minute of the demo and the depth felt disappointingly flat. I will definitely revisit.

Battlezone. Tank interior was just good to look at. Demo was also very fun. The intensity ramped up quickly.

Job Simulator. Delightfully cathartic.

Overall
Love it. More blurry than expected. Drift and jitters are present and disappointing. But, none of it is bad enough that VR itself can't make up for it. I really hope this catches on, this is a technology that can take huge strides between generations. Also, more third person games please.

Yes, the headphones thing is a bit of a pain but I'd rather have my own than some integrated thing. You can always use the in-ears (I wonder what they are like?) but really after a couple uses I managed to find a sweet spot.

Bad_Boy

time to take my meds
Been playing the demos and vr worlds for the past 4 hours. Holy shit.

The first demo I started was driveclub. I selected the 2nd car with no roof. (not sure the name) The moment I started looking around the interior and exterior of the car I knew this was something special.

Graphics take a big hit in some titles, but for the first time in a while I don't give a damn about graphics. Also, no motion sickness to report.

I need to invest in a move/DS4 combo charger.

Well I don't know what to say really, you want todays 'best' technology but cheaper? Yes, wait for VIVE 2 and miss out on the fun - or just bite the bullet :)

If you mean "miss out on the fun" because of the hardware availability, then PS VR is already "missing out on the fun" of the Vive and Oculus' releases.

If you mean "miss out on the fun" because of the games, the games aren't here yet for any of the available headsets. Wake me from cryostasis once Ace Combat 7, Gran Turismo Sport, DOOM VR and Project Cars 2 are all out!

A friend came over yesterday to check it out. It was really fun to watch each other react to the different experiences.
I really recommend to co-op Playroom VR, it is so good! We played through the robo rescue level. She used the VR unit, I used the TV screen and told her where to look... brilliant!

You do realise this is the PSVR launch thread right? Not quite sure why you're here.

We didn't miss out on OR or VIVE because we didn't want to pay the premium entry or we wanted the PS exclusives or 'ease of use' (compared to VIVE).

You want 'better than VIVE' and it's been known for some time that this isn't, but gives a very good bang for buck.

Just remember that your headset and controllers need to be in view of the camera at all times and as soon as something goes out of the camera area it basically vanishes in most games with hand controls. Otherwise the system would have to guess and it would end up a jittery mess.

I think some people are kinda forgetting this obvious thing and just think as long as the cameras generally facing them it should work. You need to angle the camera just right so your headset and controllers are comfortably within the frame and allowing for extra movement. Hence why being a good 6 feet from the camera really helps expand that range.

Just go into the normal camera settings and you can get a preview of exactly what the camera sees, if you're standing up try and angle the camera so your head is near the top but with some extra leeway, and enough that you can reach down to the floor with the moves and keep them visible to the camera (for picking up that blasted key in Batman should you drop it, lol).

I definitely hope Sony have a success with PSVR and that for PSVR 2 they just license the Vive lighthouse tech or at least do their own foolproof system. The tracking and fiddling with the camera for standing or seated experiences really is a pain.

Just thinking, I had issues last night just because I had a lamp next to my tv that must have been shining off my headset. It totally messed up the tracking until I turned it off. Your own tv must do the same thing though and potentially interferes so maybe its best for solitary VR if we dim or turn off our tv.

You do realise this is the PSVR launch thread right? Not quite sure why you're here.

I was expecting PS VR to be better than it seems to be. Driveclub VR was gonna be my game pretty much until GTS and AC7, and complaints about it being super blurry to the point of hampering the gameplay are extremely common.

Hopefully the PS Pro can do something about that by the time GTS is out. I've heard good things about Farpoint's supersampling/downsampling.

So , my day one VR experience - i'd never done any VR before.

Setup - Even with the mass of wires its super easy, as they're all labelled with instructions.. Calibration was a little tricky simply because the bedroom i have it in is a little cramped, but i eventually got it to work. I would recommend picking up the new PS4 camera, as it looks to be adjustable, as opposed to the static original one, i had to angle it by putting stuff under the old camera.

Headset - i was tentative with adjusting the headset in case i break the thing, but when you find the 3 adjustable parts, its easy to get it to fit well. And even with my glasses it was comfy. I would recommend ensuring your room is cool, i got a little bit of steaming up at first, had the fan on, so everything was nice and cool and had no problems the rest of the night. The resolution isn't brilliant, after playing sharp 1080p PS4 games this gen it is a noticeable step down. Everything so far is not as sharp and is a little muddier. Its up to the individual whether this will hamper their enjoyment, so far the experience of VR games, means i'm okay with the softer visuals. I think i'm all in on the Pro now if it'll aid that.

Games.

Batman VR
Really impressive the 30 minutes i played, very immersive "being" the batman, but there is a hint of "what if" as when you grapple between points, ride in the batwing/batmobile, is just transitions to black and your at your destination. - looking forward to playing more.

VR Words
-London heist is great fun while it lasts, reloading guns, realising you have to literally duck to avoid fire, throwing trash out of your car, messing with the car radio, doing the cigar thing, all fun and highlights the possibilities for VR games. I too was leaning back smoking my cigar doing my best brick top impression talking to the guys.
- The Dive - run of the mill "experience" in a cage, see fishes, not much to say

(demo disc) Eve Valkyrie
The demo was too short, you got a little sense of flying, but in the minute they allow you your trying to get used to the controls and see what everything does. Also, looking down and seeing boobs, tad weird ;)

(demo disc) Driveclub
Was just like driveclub as i remembered, really good, but i played on novice, so it was holding my hand with generous assists, most importantly, no queasyness, but i did just do one race.

(demo disc) Job Simulator
Was really fun, twisting in my cubicle "doing work" was a humorous take on everyday jobs i'll probably buy this game.

(demo disc) Until Dawn - Rush of Blood
Another fun shooty experience, you felt super cool dual wielding shotguns blowing away pig guys, i'll be buying this when ive got through my current stack of VR games.

(demo disc) RIGS
I really enjoyed the game i played, was really a lightbulb moment when i was moving my right analogue to aim, but nothing, then my head, and pinpoint aiming! slowly got used to it in the match, it is a multiplayer game i can see me playing, i think at £50 notes its too high a price, at £35(where amazon were before they jacked it up this week) i'd be all over it.

Battlezone
The only really single "full" game i had, i only played a couple of rounds and really liked it. There seems to be good depth here with numerous tanks and armaments to take, you have a variety of skill levels and campaign lengths, you have to decide how to use your currency - scout out the map, so you know whats there, or arm up and go in blind. But pregress in your tank carrything through campaigns means you'll always make progress. Being in the tank is super cool, seeing all the instruments (i've yet to find my shield meter!), and when your in combat looking up and seeing your cannon blasting away as you shoot, and then it retracts and new weapons pop out as you change, is all super impressive. I think i'll be playing plenty of this.

I also played a regular PS4 game on the giant screen and even at the lower rez, it was perfectly playable, especially as darkest dungeon has small lettering, so thats definitely an option if the TV's busy

All in, it was a great experience, and i'm now sure i'll get more than my monies worth for the headset and games. I made sure to take regular breaks, i don't think i had the headset on longer then 45 minutes, sometimes it'd be a couple of minutes breaks, sometimes longer. I didn't feel any queasiness, sickness, no headaches or fatigue. There was no tracking issues like some people have reported, it was pretty near flawless. I have zero concern that this is something that will be collecting dust by the new year.

If someone thinks that most PSVR games are "experiences" I can only recommend playing Batman: Arkham VR. It's quite short, but it's definitely a real game and I would love to have a second Arkham VR game which is longer.

Sadly that 60 minute experience is just not worth 20€ for me. Urgh. Or is there more to it?

Edit for other impressions:

- No problems with tracking or anything at all, but I also have the new camera and set it up infront of my with enough space in the living room, without any lights behind the TV or anything else. Having Philips HUE helps a lot I guess.

- 360 3D videos are awesome

- I still don't have a full game, but I am looking at Until Dawn, Batman and RIGS

old camera isn't static though, it does rotate :D But it surely helps if you buy a cheap tv-stand to prop it on top of a flatscreen tv.

RIGS players: Can you clarify something for me?

Is there any control option that allows you to horizontally rotate the mech with the right stick, while still controlling "where the weapons aim" with your face?

IMO that'd be the perfect control option.

Here are my first impressions.

Setup
The cabling setup is absolutely ridiculous, it really feels like a hack than something that was planned from the get go. But fortunately it needs to be done just once.

Comfort
The headset is really light, and very comfortable. Pulling out the head band is a bit clunky and stiff, hopefully it loosens up. Main problem is smearing the lenses if you accidentally have them touch your face.

Image quality
Having played Oculus Rift developer versions, PSVR exceeded my expectations. The pixel gaps are smaller than I thought, and the field of vision is much larger than I expected. The game graphics are pretty barebones on OG PS4, I would put them somewhere between PS Vita and PS3.

Experience
The experience really is phenomenal. The sense of presence is fantastic, already in the white lobby screen. You really feel you are inside a game world - and it does feel like a game world, rather than real world.

Games / demos

DriveClub VR - tried this first since people have said it's the most nausea inducing game. I didn't feel any nausea at all. Then I had my wife have a go and within a minute she began feeling ill, and after a lap she was ill most part of the night. The sense of presence is amazing, it feels that you are inside PS Vita.

RIGS - looks absolutely spectacular, certainly the best looking game of the bunch. The sensation of flying high is fantastic. The controls are a bit complex, so I didn't quite get a hang of the gameplay yet.

Tumble VR - really really fun little game where you place blocks on top of each other, using the Move controllers.

Wayward Sky - much more fun than I expected, just waving your hands in the menu is already fun. The graphics are lovely, it feels like you are playing with a diorama.

Headmaster - I'll be honest, I did not expect head butting footballs to be any fun at all, but the ambience and Portal-esque setting is really quite good. A nifty little demo.

VR Worlds - certainly the standout experience to me. Dropping under water in a cage is amazing, a real sense of presence which I relate to as an active scuba diver. The shooting gallery game is very fun too, Move controllers work great again.

Bottomline
Blown away by PSVR, much more than I expected. The presence is great, there is tons of content, and Move controllers are tons of fun. I ended up buying Batman, Rez Infinite, Until Dawn and VR Worlds, and getting demos for Kitchen (RE7) and Hatsune Miku. The only downside is that the experience is aggressively antisocial - you really can't focus on anything else. It's good and bad - on one hand it's relaxing, on the other it's isolating.

Sadly that 60 minute experience is just not worth 20€ for me. Urgh. Or is there more to it?

for me the batcave stuff alone was worth the 20e as a new unique experience i've never done before. It's like seeing a movie for the first time, you might never watch it again but it was definitely worth the price of entry.

Folks with PSVR that are experiencing motion sickness/nausea symptoms: have you guys tried using a pair of Sea-Band wrist bands before playing? There's a reviewer on Amazon saying it helped a lot with his Oculus Rift experience.
Sea-Bands are a scam, so I wouldn't recommend it.

If you do feel that it helps you though, praise the placebo-effect and ignore what I'm saying!

So I tried Rush of Blood today, I was concerned it'd be too scary or cause motion sickness. Nope to both. It's just campy enough to ensure it never gets too intensely creepy and there wasn't a hint of motion sickness even on the craziest roller coaster moments. What a fun game, really wasn't it expecting it to be this good.

Then I tried Driveclub. Set up my wheel, was really excited about finally getting to play this one... had to take the headset off before the end of the first race. The DCVR vomit comet rumours are true for me. The brightness seems way too low in DCVR for some reason too.

Ok that helps me a bit and it isn't like I will be the only one playing this. Will buy it later. I love Batman way too much even though the last movies soured me lol

I think you need to try it, people were probably expecting DC lushness which (obviously) was never going to happen. I think it looks really good and as you say the Pro will only make it better.

Yeah? There was like a 15 minute tutorial on exactly this before you can start the game.

I'm at work and I can't wait to get home and try PSVR again after last night. I'm over forty and I can't remember the last time any tech made me feel like this.
VR really needs to succeed because I really don't want this to fail into obscurity.
My only issue is that I really wish there was a way to just play my PS4 without turning on the little black box. Why didn't Sony put a hardware switch on there or is it possible?
