PlayStation VR Launch Thread: Welcome to The Real World

Just set my headset up and played for the first time. Harmonix Music demo was pretty cool but I don't know if it's worth $15. Then I just decided to test my motion sickness limits. I was fine with Eve: Valkyrie but after two minutes in Driveclub VR I had to take the headset off.

I wonder if tolerance to this kind of thing increases the more you play. Will be interesting to see how you get on a month from now with same game.

Can someone please help!

2 issues.

#1. My Gold Sony Headset does not work with psvr. It says 'Cannot use audio device you just connected while using VR headset inline remote'.

I've connected the Sony wire that comes with the headset to the VR.

#2. Originally put heasset on and it fogged up so I wiped it with the included Sony cloth but it seemed still fogged. On closer inspection, the right lenses feels rough. Its also looks as if the fogging was on the inside but it just looks like it has an extra ring on it. This is causing the right lenses to look blurry.

???

Thansk guys and gals.

Would show some pics but I don't know how to do it! :-(

Asked this a few pages back but:

Would a game that operated like Puppeteer or the rearranging panels in Portal 2 work for simulating locomotion without making you ill?

Like, if in the background, you always had a stable point of reference, but the world was reshaping around it underneath your feet?

What do you guys think?

No the position is mostly fine, honestly I'll say it MOSTLY works, mainly because I understand where the limitations are as far as where I can move and whatnot. It'll just be on things like when I go to pick something up and it'll flicker as if it thinks it disappeared or something, kind of spaz out. In until dawn it's far worse though, mainly because it's longer and more intense I think. My friend was over tonight playing and after each level we had to recalibrate, or pause it and try to fix it with the options button trick. The arms will be pointing too high, or too low, or the wrists will be all twisted, etc.

I know this is pages old and hopefully you fixed it but to me this sounds like you are leaving the camera's safe zone. Are you standing? What's the distance that you are relative to the camera? I assume you've removed all other lights that the camera could potentially pick up?

. Positional audio still works in there too favoring one ear over the other if you turn like you're in a theater lol.

When I use cinematic mode to watch a movie I just face forward and use my surround sound.

Argh!! I'm really loving the games, but man, why the fuck does the world wobble and pulse with just me sitting still? Playroom is really bad about this.

Playing the Cat/Mouse game, as the cat, whenever I move my head, the world starts to shift and pulse a little bit rather than staying still.

Another example is the room with crane game. Trying to look at the little miniatures sometimes results in the game world floating away from my face in the direction my head is moving..

Guys, a couple of minutes ago, when I still had the headset on my face, I was FRIGGIN BATMAN OMFG! This shit is the most immersive thing I have EVER experienced. Looking down at my body and seeing my bat-tools.. holy crap.

To anyone who's still contemplating getting Arkham VR I can only tell you one thing: Buy it immediately.

Yup, Batman was incredible and graphically impressive, I need to get back in there. Smoothly grabbing stuff from the utility belt made me smile.

Wayward Sky is the best looking VR game for me together with Rez Area X, it's amazing try the demo!

This. Anyone who wants to see something super clear should try the Wayward Sky demo (and the Rez demo).

Man, I wish someone would make a full London Heist type game, even if it is just a bigger collection of shooting, investigating, puzzle scenarios. I loved that demo.

Completely agree. Sony should make a full game around this and that platformer everyone's raving about.

Well just tried Rigs and Driveclub, good news is neither made me sick even in the slightest, both my boys ages 8 and10 were fine too for a race. My wife could barely finish the ocean one with the shark. Not cause of sickness but she was so scared she had to close her eyes lol, plus Ive never heard her scream that loud (guess ill try harder). The best part of all this has been that even though I have a headset on I dont feel completely disconnected from the people watching, which is a big plus if i ever want to use this thing. I cant even express the feeling of being in a video game, its nuts and this thing does an amazing job.

Insane For Sony
You do realize its running off the PS4 and is the cheapest VR of the big three? I think you went in expecting a $1000 experience instead of the $400 starter package that it is
Every problem he listed exists on Oculus and Vive as well. In those terms, tech is indeed lacking right now, but generally the benefits vastly outweigh the problems. It is true however, that VR headset is not a TV replacement right now.

So many people have this issue, myself included. Has anyone actually come across a solution yet? Maybe deleting and reinstalling?
I've downloaded the demo disc for what it's worth. I can try deleting that and installing from the actual disc.

1. Is your USB receiver for the headset plugged in? Also I believe the headphones should be turned OFF.

2. Dumb question but did you check for a plastic film ln the lenses ? And don't wear it ON your face, slide it so it's just off of it for ventilation

Got the missus to have another go, loaded up the start screen for until dawn and got told to get it the fuck off now!

LOL

loaded up the playroom ghost hunt and she seemed to enjoy that, but still says it's not for her.

I spent a couple of hours solid playing different demos earlier, and although some do it better than others immersion is amazing, today I have had some wobbling though, I've had drift before but not the jitteriness, first time I have had it and it's quite jarring, not sure as to the cause though as the setup was fine yesterday evening.

Do you still have the protective tape on the lenses?

Scavengers Odyssey chapter 2 just wrecked my brain in a minute. I stopped playing immediately.

Edit: the good news my nausea goes away after 5 minutes of rest. But locomotion doesn't bode well for me so far.

Is it common for text to be blurry/screen door effect? I thought impressions said there was no screen door effect but its VERY visible to me.

Worth checking out?

Only if you really like light gun shooting games but for some reason don't want to play Until Dawn. It really is just a single room with a shooting gallery and a few targets popping up, gradually ramping up in speed with additional moving targets.

Played some Playstation VR at a special demo at the mall earlier today.

First thing I tried was SuperHyperCube, which seems solid to me. Neat concept, and the abstract graphics look great.

Second thing I tried was Scavengers Odyssey. This one I was a lot less impressed with. I had no issues with the controls and gameplay, but the game is a total blur-fest. The game has these epic vistas that are supposed to be impressive, but with the low resolution it's just a smudge.

I suspect that game devs will eventually figure out what sort of games look good with the low res screen and which don't. The high detail models and distant views of Scavengers Odyssey doesn't really work, but the simple abstract graphics of SuperHyperCube do. After seeing how good SuperHypeCube looked I'm sure the abstract graphics of Rez look great as well.

The tech is much better than I expected, but I think I'll hold off buying until I get the impression that devs have started designing their games for the peripheral's graphical strengths.

Wow! I was so impressed with the Playroom VR platformer. I wondered how platformers might work in VR and that answered the question. I want more of this or maybe a LittleBigPlanet VR.

Text on the outer edges is blurry.

There is no SDE, or extremely minimal. Maybe you mean something else?

Thanks.

Lollolol. Just tried turned off and they work! Pmsl!

The protective take isn't on I don't think because there is nowhere to pull anything off, like a tab or something?

If you were sweating and tried wiping it with the included cloth all you managed to do was wipe oil and sweat on your lenses.

Either wait til it dries and wipe again or use anything to simply dry the lens first before wiping it.

The lenses look like they have anti-glare and anti-scratch coating.

I use an eyeglass cloth from Costco to clean mine.

Its been ages since they did it and not been wet. Still feel really rough compared to the left lense. Wiped again and nothing.

Can someone explain how I link a picture from my phone and it might help please?

Red blinking means it's charging.

Wayward Sky makes a super good first impression based on the demo.

Blinking is what the Move controller does when it's charging in the docking station, too.

Of course without a USB multimeter you can't know for sure, but I think blinking is a good sign when connected to power.

No i'm not clear enough, it's blinking 6 times then stopping. It's meant to continue to blink normally and stops when it's charged.

This thing has me excited for what a game like Kingdom Come: Deliverance would be like in VR. I know I'm gonna get totally lost in this thing, when mine is delivered Monday. I'm soo ready.

May have found my upper limit for VR usage: two sessions a day of ~an hour each. Did that yesterday and was fine, today also was fine, but then I went for a third session of EVE and I don't feel great afterwards.

Yup...

Barrel roles and loops in EVE, perfectly fine...

Half a race in Driveclub, had to rip the headset off...

Too many things are aliased like crazy, sadly. Some of the VR apps have text that's almost unreadable. I don't know why the apps are allowing text like that through, they seriously need to fix their font renderer. If that's what you're talking about, that's aliasing, not screen door effect. Screen door effect is when there's black space between the pixels, and the PSVR is very good about that, with only tiny black dots at worst. It does have a definite texture to the screen though, and it's very obvious in very dark scenes, like watching an 8mm movie on a super high gain screen. Regular screen door effect is more obvious in brighter scenes.

So I bought the Super Stardust VR add-on pack...I know the VR exclusive mode was underwhelming with some reviewers but I wanted to see how the standard modes looked in VR.

Holy crap!! Playing Arcade puts the gigantic planet right in front of you...it is so awesome playing it this way.

My love of SSHD has been renewed. And when you explode and all those sparks fly into you, I literally went WHOA. Sooo good. Shame the exclusive VR mode seems bad, but I still need to try it.

edit: be sure to use the Near camera instead of Far for maximum whoa.

Also, is the social screen feed supposed to look so low res? When the headset is on that feed looks way sub-HD.

I believe the max resolution when running VR is 720p for the social screen.

Didn't realize you get the standard game in VR, I thought it was just first person. I might need to purchase this.

I'm happy more and more voices are heard to defend the idea that VR is not only firt person porn. VR is amazing for so many things

I've had PlayStation VR since launch and I'm loving it(when my kids ever get off it lol) but I've been so enthusiastic about it a friend of mine got it today but when he tries to set it up he is getting an error message saying no HDMI connection t but he said he followed the instructions and he is tech savvy.
Has anybody else had this problem and how did you fix it?

On mine SDE very noticeable as well, which surprised me because I heard it was supposed to be minimal.

The SDE on my Gear was very distracting but I feel like I have to try hard to even notice it on psvr. Weird...

I wonder what resolution Driveclub VR is being rendered at.

When I first played it, it really bothered me. And I'm one of the biggest Driveclub homers.... but after racing in different locations and playing more... it doesn't boyher anymore... I still get amazed with the interior of the cars and just being able to look around.... everything animates realistically..birds to flags and debris.

But yeah rez is low.

I know the regular version of Driveclub isn't getting a patch for PS PRO...but I hope Pro still can help the VR version by cleaning it up a bit...if it does down scale to what ever resolution it runs at.

Any thoughts here on Job Simulator?

The demo was very impressive, I am just worried that for $40 the whole thing would get stale quickly.
