Pokémon Go |OT| As in "Go Outside"

Are there region exclusives? Didn't know about that.

Niantic CEO John Hanke said:
“Pokémon will live in different parts of the world depending on what type of Pokémon they are. Water Pokémon will live near the water. It may be that certain Pokémon will only exist in certain parts of the world. Very rare Pokémon may exist in very few places,” Hanke said.

From here.

Has there been another online game released in recent memory that felt this half baked?

- servers constantly down
- game crashes frequently
- game softlocks after catching a pokemon causing you to lose that pokemon
- 1 HP glitch makes your gym opponent invincible
- rural areas can't play
- losing paid items due to server issues

I mean how do you have one of the biggest IPs in gaming and treat it like this?
Battlefield 4 for the first 6 months.

My Daughter just caught a pikachu and then the pokeball bug happened. She's pretty pissed.

There's gonna be a huge backlash to this. I overheard people openly complaining about having to restart the app constantly.

They've hit it big and yet the half baked product is probably strangling the potential of the game.

Had a freaking 400 cp Bulbasaur which was right next to a Ponyta in a great ball when my phone went from 17% battery to dead on the spot. My portable charger can't get here soon enough.

I try to be understanding since they probably didn't expect this but it is annoying. Usually by this time there aren't issues.

For some reason my lures and lucky balls seem to make the server crash

Cuz sure as shit as soon as I use one servers go down

My friend is like an hour away. They said theres a Blastoise by them.

I'm rooted and on android + xposed, anyone futz with GPS spoofing and know a way to make it work? I'm sure theres a ban risk for the game, but I'm still open to trying it.

What do you get out of cheating? Why even play the game?

It seems like Niantic is in a "damned if they do, damned if they don't" situation. They have a planned global release schedule that they have already delayed in response to server issues, but if they keep delaying it then people will get angry and Niantic will be losing money. However if they keep releasing the game globally as planned, the already troublesome servers will only get worse until Niantic is able to take a step back and look at what they can do to improve. There's really no right answer.

So what's happened to the servers today? It was working relatively well the past few days. Did they launch it in Japan or Europe? It doesn't make sense, I don't expect a massive influx of new users unless they did that.

The right answer is it should've stayed in beta for another six months and then have a gradual rollout when the client is better at handling server problems.

I actually wonder if workday traffic is higher than weekend traffic just because everything is concentrated into fewer hours--people aren't staying out as late, and they work/go to school during the day, so everyone ends up trying to hit the local/regional servers during the same four-hour windows and the servers have a horrible time.

There's a strip club and attached bar about three blocks from my house. The strip club is a gym. The bar is a PokéStop. Someone just dropped a lure there at like 9 PM.

I'm on my couch laughing my ass off at this.

Being able to teleport somewhere theres actually something to do/catch. My town has a grand total of 2 gyms and 2 pokestops. It's 30km to the nearest additional ones. That's not going to get old super fast.

Rolling this game out in the winter would've really limited it's popularity. Half the country wouldn't be able to spend hours walking around playing like they can now. The server situation needs to improve but I'm still glad to have it most of the time.

As popular and as fun as it is, it really is sort of a trainwreck release.

Good point. Still, it's a risky move because if they don't resolve the server issues, people will just get fed up and stop. And they don't seem well prepared to both fix those issues and add new features in a reasonable time frame to keep a lot of casual players engaged.

I hope they'll work through it.

Fucking cops came and kicked everyone out of the park saying it's closed. Everyone was there playing Pokémon Go. There is no posted sign saying that the park closes at a certain time.
