Pokemon Gold / Silver for DS announced

Yay I got it!

Is there a place where I can find out whats err... Breedable? I have Blaziken, but I want to get a few baby Torchics for potential trade fodder. Unfortunately the only other fire pokemon I currently have is Ponyta.

I don't think that'll work. LOL

Yeah. I'm just saying the notched eared Pichu could also be an event Pokemon rather than something that results from breeding; there is a new movie coming out this summer after all. We'll just have to wait and see.
Seems odd that they would put soo much focus on these Pichu (the "?" mark that people thought was a 5th gen pokemon, the addition of 2 new kinds of "Pichu" in the game, both of which seem to go along the lines of what WWRU said would be a new feature.) but w/e. We don't know what the event is in the scan but I trust WWRU.

Serebii's saying that the main menu (pokedex, pkmn, items, trainer, etc.) is now located on the touch screen (there's a clearer screenshot from a scan).

Don't use your silly logic in pokemon breeding! Skitty can breed with Wailord for goodness sakes.

Both Blaziken and Ponyta belong to this egg group: http://serebii.net/pokedex-dp/egg/ground.shtml

sorry if this was answered, but is the sept release date for america or japan?
Neither. Unless someone would like to tell me where this was confirmed. The 2ch posting posted it was from Coro Coro before the scans hit. Nobody who's seen the scans has confirmed this at all.

Fiiiinally. Please make use of the DS instead of porting GBA ROMs, Gamefreak. :(

Edit- Oooh looks like Arceus could play a part in this.

Now we gotta hope and pray for Touch Screen controlled box management.

Should've already been done with D/P/Pl. :|

You can also use that to examine stuff and all that instead of using A. Though you can use the buttons for all this too if anyone's touch screen has died or something.

FIIIIIIIIIIIIINALLY.

I started playing some of the past games in the last few days just to reacquaint myself with the series, and man, the speed of going through menus is just killing me.

Finally! They better allow you to manage your PC boxes, too. And why can't we carry around a laptop or anything, or have Internet access through our PokeGear or something to get to our Pokemon boxes. I mean, we can actually access the Internet through our phones in real life and edit and "manage" our things online anytime, anywhere. Why are we required to visit Pokemon centers to access our Pokemon!? It should be instantly available through our PokeGear. Please?

Seriously! The PC UI is terrible. Its barely changed since RGY.

I understand it back then when it was on the Game Boy and the box system was neccesitated by the lack of memory, but now there's no excuse :|

I haven't played D/P/Pt, but are there still three separate submenus for depositing, withdrawing, and moving?
Yep. Amazing, eh? I'm often switching out one of my good Pokemon for one that I taught an HM too and its a major hassle going back to a Pokemon Center and having to go through 9 or so UI selections to get that shit done.

And you still can't delete eggs from a box or your party which I don't understand. I usually just send them to pokemon ranch to get rid of them. At least until I fill it up, for R/S/E I had a separate memory card for pokemon box just for eggs.

The also need a better way to trade items between games without having to attach them to pokemon and trade. And it would be nice to be able to do bulk trading and non 1-1 trading locally. I.e. it would be nice to be able to swap the contents of entire boxes between carts.

Holy shit.

Why the fuck can't you just open a box, select a Pokemon in storage or the party, and a little pop-up appears next to it with "Summary|Deposit/Withdraw/Switch|Item|Move," etc.?

If you guys seriously use anything other than "Move" you are doing it seriously wrong. You can withdraw/deposit from the "Move" option.

That's pretty much exactly how "Move" works.

I checked it. You're right, my bad. Now, if that is in there then why the Hell do the "DEPOSIT" AND "WITHDRAWL" options still exist? I never had used "MOVE" because I expected that it would only allow me to move Pokemon between different boxes. :P

It exists to slow down people who are too lazy to try out "Move". :þ

There's actually a shortcut button in D/P that automatically does the move command allowing one less menu surf...

THAT THE GAME DOESN'T TELL YOU ABOUT.

(I think it was Y or X)

Well fuck me sideways.

And I always used "Move" just to, you know, Move Pokemon from box to box.

But still, it's such a slow process navigating that box when you're even in there, I'd love to just be able to double click a pokemon and have it added to my party.

Box management is starting to become 50% of my damn game, though I suppose I'm partially at fault for obsessively organizing them.

Are you kidding? The PC UI is LEAGUES, and let me repeat that LEAGUES better than the ones from the GBC games. It's the single biggest improvement in the series, PERIOD

Why can't be also have unlimited party space while we're at it, because that's almost what you're asking for

Pokemon Ranch does help with box management at least. I wanted my boxes in Diamond sorted by National dex ID so I deposited everything into Ranch, then used the withdrawl interface in Ranch to sort them by ID and pulled them back out in that order.

Rules of Pokemon!?

Do you know the rules of Pokemon?

Here are some examples from Pokemon battle...
- Wild Pokemon can be encountered only in grassy areas.
- Battle starts when making an eye contact
with other Pokemon trainer.
- When Pokemon's HP turns zip, it faints.
- Pokemon can learn up to four moves.
- Whoever's speed is the fastest, use its move first.
- Pokemon can hold one item.
- Battle continues till your party's all Pokemon faints.
- Wild Pokemon can be caught by using item(Poke Ball).
and so on.

In case of video games, things what we could
are restricted.
The fact is, those restrictions became rules.

The same reason the Dragon Quest games still have the talk, stairs, door, take, and search commands in the menu. Kept for tradition/not to confuse older players.

I'm just asking for the ability to have access to a "PC" and thusly, your Pokemon inside the PC at any time, not having to go to a Pokemon Center to do it. How is this asking for unlimited party space?

Not only is it the same thing as having unlimited party space, it eliminates the need for out of battle healing items entirely. (Protip: Pokemon get healed when you deposit them into a PC.)

Well I guess I see what you mean. Alright.

Probably because you're not limited to six Pokemon. It gives you unlimited space outside of battle, since you could just swap out dead, poisoned, or weakened Pokemon for fresh ones.

What's more logical is that any PC should let you manage Pokemon and PCs should be eeeeeeeverywhere. Or, if you want to use your laptop idea, most dungeon-areas should be deadzones while a lot of more basic routes should be hotspots.

I would like to see the ability to send a pokemon from your party back to the PC from the field to make space in your party to catch a new one. (would come in very handy when you need to sr for a legendary) That should be doable seeing how you can send newly caught ones to the pc from anywhere.

We also need way more space in the PC. It's pretty silly that there isn't even room to have 1 of each pokemon as it stands now, yet alone room for male/female or each, ts of dittos in each nature with 31's in various stats, etc.

This is an idea I can get behind. Though, to be fair, there is enough space to have one of each Pokemon in your PC. There are 540 slots in the PC and 493 Pokemon.

But this assumes A) you don't do any breeding and B) you don't catch any shinies and C) you never trade.

All I said is that you have enough space to hold at least one of each species of Pokemon. This is a fact. Breeding/shinies/trading has nothing to do with it.

Well, considering that the rest of the Pokemon UI is terrible (and the game explains very little) I think it would be quite normal to assume the "Move" option would just move Pokemon between boxes.

Or D) You release useless copies of pokemon. There's almost 50 extra slots, more than enough for the few shinies you have and extra's of super rare pokemon

Right, but it's still not enough space period. Whether it's enough space by an arbitrary limitation isn't what anyone really cares about.

It's also especially annoying if you organize your boxes by type or level and thus are forced to leave empty spaces. My Water box in Ruby was huge but my fire box was basically wasted space.

Yeah, sorry I was thinking there were 16 boxes and not 18. Still it's nowhere near enough when you have a couple of boxes of just dittos :lol It would also be nice if they incorporated some of the search features from pokemon box, such as being able to find all pokemon with a certain move, a certain nature etc.

I never said it was enough space period. larvi said you don't have enough space to hold 1 of each Pokemon and I corrected him. You took what I said to mean more than it did.

No, it is crap and was crap. I'd dig out a copy of Blue to prove it but I'm not gonna bother just to prove it to some random person on GAF.

Glad the bag is on the touchscreen now. I hated having to scroll all the way down to use an item, especially repels for pokeradar hunting. That wheel thing was barely useful. I just wanted to click on the scroll bar to the very bottom.

The old ones really were much worse. Probably the worst part was the game had to save whenever you wanted to switch boxes.

Something else I figured out after doing this for a while is that you can move items around in the bag so you can move the super repels to the top to make them easier to find the next time. As long as you keep at least 1 in the bag it will stay there too. But yeah, item management sucks now that you can't put lesser used items into the PC
