Pokemon Gold / Silver for DS announced

I don't think it'll ever happen since Nintendo can't allow Ash to ever grow up. Besides, didn't Misty have a boyfriend in GSC's Kanto (you interrupt them on a date, I think)? The question of who the guy was never got answered and I have a feeling it wasn't Ash/Red.

Mind you, the anime in the Kanto league was hinting at romance, but the thread was never finished. There was that one episode where that dancer guy who had the Thunderbolting Starmie had the hots for Misty and invited her to stay with him. She turned him down and at the end, he says to Ash "You're a lucky guy, Ash."

Ash of course, was completely oblivious and didn't know what the guy was getting at.

thats true, i'd probably lose even more interest in the pokemon anime if there was a new main character. ash and pikachu have become a staple, really.

and yes, i remember that episode and i was like "WHAT ARE YOU DOING MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN T_T" throwing a fit and etc. stupid ash. whats surprising is how totally platonic his relationship with dawn is. like, no hint or whatsoever.

She is like two/three years younger than him, whereas Misty was his age.

The Tyrogue I got from an NPC in Crystal randomly evolved to a shiny Hitmonlee. I've not had a shiny ever since (discounting the red Gyarados). :(
I believe that the egg you get from that NPC had a higher chance of being shiny than usual....

Do the Pokemon on the battle screen actually have animations to them or are they still idle?

Just curious after seeing some new animated Pokemon avatars.
They do a small animation then stand still I think. I turn animations off. I'm the opposite of Teknoman :lol

Ah man it's all about Dawn x Zoey! lol.... anyway wasn't the whole Misty and Ash thing only in the US? Think I remember reading once that in japan there weren't any hints at it, or very few.

And yea pokemon do a slight animation when they appear (and yours too in Platinum) but afterwards, they move for some attacks but it's mostly sprite rotation, scaling, etc. They don't have any real animation frames.....hope it comes with G/S but I doubt it.

could be. i remember there used to be a couple of songs in the english pokemon OSTs that had misty singing about ash and stuff.

This is the current Japanese opening: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tTTv0S8_e3I Ignoring the actual singing on Hikari's actress' part, I love how the lyrics make out their relationship to be so simultaneously platonic and morally-supportive. Wish that kind of thing would be written more often without the crutch of romantic hints.

insert tag quote, I know, but in actuality it's literally opposite to what I want from anime and games

It appears that we still can't use the touchscreen for movement. >.<

You know. I'm trying to decide between doing a "normal" GS run and a Bellymander GS run. 1 Charmander only. No other Pokemon. No evolving. :D
Wound't Bellymander die from faster Rock, Water, Ground PKMN especially with berries operating at 25%?

That guy was me

Nothing's faster than a Charmander!
I could outrun everyone in this topic no joke.

You can't breed Dittos.
You can breed two Dittos together to produce another Ditto. However, it's more feasible to just catch a bunch of them and calculate their IVs afterwards.

iirc, she says, or there's a bit of in-game text saying, something along lines of 'He's a great/powerful trainer'. And the only time you see her in G/S is the postgame match. You kick her ass, she threatens to sick her boyfriend after you.

This is correct. I do remember that. Wasn't the dude she was with trying to flirt with HER?

So, my experience from playing with the simulators in the RBY and particularly the GSC eras left me very disillusioned with those.

The first reason being that it completely ignores the mathematical odds of existence and instead looks at legality only. This surfaces on a lot of ways - hidden power abuse being the most obvious and obnoxious, but also things like Lovely Kiss promotional givaways, perfect natures, abilities and IVs on unbreedables, etc.

But just as importantly, the accelerated metagame is generally a detriment. In reality there should be a lag between the creation of a particularly potent set / combo / team and the creation of a decent counter, as well as a certain degree of risk in a particularly experimental or off the wall creation. Instead, everything happens at once.

But yeah, now that I know there is no need to spend a solid week fighting the elite four over and over in order to use a pokemon competitively, I see no need to bother with sims anymore.

Needless to say, I disagree. I think a quick turnaround time makes for an exciting metagame, and if there were barriers to entry in trying out new teams, we'd have an even more stagnated game than we do now. Removing IV randomness puts everyone on the same playing field regardless of how long they're willing to bang their heads against the breeding system, while allowing things like hidden power of any type have a positive effect on the metagame.

No. He didn't say anything, just got an exclamation point over his head and walked away. And Misty never mentioned him again after that.

I remember assuming it was Bill.

Actually, now that I think about it, I never played Gold or Silver in english.

Huh.

Okay, anyone know how to get a lot of rare candies really fast (so I can test IVs accurately)?
Really fast? No. Your only options are to buy them with battle points or to catch a bunch of pokemon that have the ability "pickup". Make a whole team of those, don't give them any hold items, and go fight some random battles. After every battle, check to see if any of your pokemon are holding an item.

Rare candies can be picked up with this ability from level 21 up and become as common as they can get at level 41 up. So you need to level all 6 pokemon to at least level 21 first.

How long does it take to get a fuck ton of battle points? Enough for maybe around 10 rare candy?

Maybe I should just buy platinum and battle against myself via wifi with level 100 pokemon. :|

I would say the pickup option is probably faster.

To get battle points you have to go through battle frontier streaks over and over. And rare candies cost 48 BP. You get like 3 BP per 7 win streak.

For getting Rare Candies, Pickup is ludicrously faster than Battle Frontier. I've sunk at least 150 hours into the Frontier and I could only get ~32 Rare Candies with BP, but with a team of five or six Pickup Pokemon you should be getting one practically every six or seven fights.

I really hope the entirety of HG/SS looks like that forest screenshot. Pokemon Platinum upgraded a couple post-game areas to have that level of ground detail--significantly above anything in Diamond and Pearl--but they were the chosen few.

I remember Ampharos being my sweeper, the Pokemon I relied on the most, through most of Silver.

Ampharos was the Pokémon I loved the most in Silver. (Sorry Meganium.)

and yeah she was my sweeper, too. Thunder, baby!
