All I read was people saying they want a new engine. And besides he was talking about the map layout.Brazil said:The graphics engine is what people are talking about.

I'm just saying, guys, do not expect any changes to the core gameplay. You're gonna walk tiles and you're gonna have turn based battles. It's ridiculous expecting something else.

bounchfx said:argh, I just want a free roaming world. basically, skin Zelda OOT or even better Wind Waker (use that graphical style for the game), and just make it pokemon. free roaming, actually seeing pokemon in the wild, full 3d camera. PLEASE.
This would work so well on the 3DS. I want itbounchfx said:argh, I just want a free roaming world. basically, skin Zelda OOT or even better Wind Waker (use that graphical style for the game), and just make it pokemon. free roaming, actually seeing pokemon in the wild, full 3d camera. PLEASE.
The problem is that turn based combat and tile navigation is not just "old traditions". It's Pokemon. They won't change the fundamentals no matter how much you believe in their "major innovations" they talked about.Vinterbird said:But haven't they been talking up the game as a total reboot, new start and a new Pokemon experience? Keeping all the old traditions would be going against that mantra?
No, because it'd look fucking horrendous on DS. Unless you're implying it should be saved for a more powerful system! If it's on DS it can't handle full 3D camera and still look good. Much as I hate the constant samey direction Pokémon takes with every "sequel", at least right now it LOOKS good, yeah?bounchfx said:argh, I just want a free roaming world. basically, skin Zelda OOT or even better Wind Waker (use that graphical style for the game), and just make it pokemon. free roaming, actually seeing pokemon in the wild, full 3d camera. I'm not even gonna inject my opinion into this, but I will seriously start questioning myself if I ever hear Masuda say that tile movement is a stupid design decision. We're talking about the person who refuses to put Pokemon on a console because it will lose part of its social aspect.Twig said:EDIT: Tile-based movement is not "pokeymans". It is an antiquated relic of a bygone age. And fuck, it isn't even that. It was just a stupid design decision.
God forbid they not be lazy pieces of shit and actually put some effort into things beyond beauty shows and hidden numbers.ShockingAlberto said:Yeah, I can totally see how open Gamefreak is open to rather sweeping changes in the fundamental way they do things.
It'd be awesome if you could point out where I said they shouldn't do it or couldn't do it.Twig said:God forbid they not be lazy pieces of shit and actually put some effort into things beyond beauty shows and hidden numbers.
Oh me oh my whatever shall they do! Pathfinding? PATHFINDING? We need SEVENTEEN PLAYSTATION THREES to implement PATHFINDING!!

Affeinvasion said:Don't fix what ain't broken. As long as Pokemon keeps selling millions of copies they will not change the mechanics so much that it would alienate a huge part of the fanbase. That's what spinoffs are for.
ShockingAlberto said:Tile based movement is how the most of the series works. Each tile has its own RNG check for Pokemon rarity and whether you'll be attacked. If you switched to a radius alert for trainers, they'd need pathfinding to get to you.
I'm not saying it's impossible, because these things have clearly been done before. I'm saying they're not going to do it. There's a reason why Colloseum only let you capture Pokemon from trainers who were in easy to handle arenas.

eggandI said:Hehe I agree with what you're saying. Pokemon is nintendo's baby though. I doubt they will ever let them change anything substantial. And fans are more than willing to eat anything with Pokemon in the title up so, I don't see them taking any big risks with this new one, specially now that its been confirmed for the DS and not 3DS.
Has Gamefreak ever given any reason why they don't make EVs/IVs a clear and present game feature?
You can say whatever you want, but in the end of the day, you'll be crying and we'll be smiling.Twig said:I can honestly say I never thought I'd see the day when someone would DEFEND tile-based movement as a result of anything more than nostalgia-induced love.
Shit is fucking sad.
Zilch said:Don't you guys remember how poorly FF7 did sales-wise after FF6?! Don't change a series radically unless you want bad sales!
Zilch said:Bleh no thanks. Honestly if Gen 5 is just an upgrade from DPPlHGSS it won't be a day 1 purchase for me, as much as I love the series. But overall this is a horrible mindset for both developers and players to have.
Kawaii said:If i could pick one thing to change in the game formula:
More persistant trainers like your rival and your friend. Have a group of like 10 trainers who have a believable group of pokemon (not 99% percent of the NPCs you encounter who only have like two slowpokes, 6 pidgeys or a abra and a kadabra) who you frequently encounter and grow with you. Give them a little backstory and character.
Think something like that Ritchy guy from the first few seasons of the pokemon anime and offcourse Gary and the other rivals.
