I am not annoying! I am endearing, in an irritating kind of way. :3Andrex said:Hey wait, you're that annoying guy. >:|

is that really how it ended?ShockingAlberto said:
The first thing I thought when I saw the screenshots of the big city and heard that there are lots of cars and trucks was that maybe this game took place outside of Japan.Twig said:Tokyo apparently!
I wish they'd... LEAVE Japan. That'd be a neat change. But who knows? Maybe they are in B/W! (hahhahahaaaaaa)

Then I played SoulSilver and fought the foreign Team Rocket member that has the power plant machine part and when you tell him you disbanded Team Rocket, he says he is going to return to his home country and start Team Rocket there.
Did he say that in the original? Because I don't remember anything mentioning Team Rocket starting again in the original Silver and it would be a pretty specific change to make.

I realise that, but the Japan that we have seen in the Pokemon games so far have almost no vehicles whatsoever.Twig said:There are lots of cars and trucks in Japan, too. X:
I suppose maybe the Team Rocket thing might be a good hint, but drawing any meaningful conclusion from cars and trucks just isn't possible...

Does this mean we can FINALLY walk diagonally? Wow, Pokemon is now up to date with most NES games!KevinCow said:Here's a thing.

That took way too long but it was worth it because it's awesome.

More likely the city rotates as you hold left or right.KeeSomething said:Does this mean we can FINALLY walk diagonally? Wow, Pokemon is now up to date with most NES games!

I think their hand made looking at the videos because i cant think of any other place where they could rip them, eggandI said:Are those sprites ripped from anything or they all handmade?
First of all, it's a joke.Gravijah said:It's not proof whatsover. What RPGs can you walk diagonally in on the NES?
That's fair, I suppose.OMG Aero said:I realise that, but the Japan that we have seen in the Pokemon games so far have almost no vehicles whatsoever.
Tons, actually. The most notable is probably Mother, which the developers of it and Mother 2 went straight to Pokemon.Gravijah said:It's not proof whatsover. What RPGs can you walk diagonally in on the NES?
lol no it's an awful stupid decision and there's nothing redeeming about it in a game like thisHappyBivouac said:Screw that. Four-directional movement isn't "primitive;" it's a game design choice and I like it.
HappyBivouac said:Maybe some day they'll abandon sprites and go fully polygonal too! Then we'll really be up to date!
KeeSomething said:First of all, it's a joke.
Second, don't defend Pokemon for being so primitive in its four directional movement limitations.
Third, I hope you know I'm being playful.![]()

What is the shortest distance between two points?Gravijah said:What would freedom of movement even add?
I think people here are arguing as to this change's priority, not to its legitimacy.Cosmo Clock 21 said:What is the shortest distance between two points?
People must be intentionally dumbing themselves down to argue about Pokemon or something because they seem to forget that other 2D RPGs have gone without tile-based movement and they can handle random battles/item placement just fine

That would be worse than both other scenarios!Andrex said:It... can still be tile based and have diagonal movement.
It unfortunately won't, but it could.

what? no.Big One said:Mother, which the developers of it and Mother 2 went straight to Pokemon.
What? :lol For one, the original Mother does have 8-way movement. Another is that Creatures Inc., which was once Ape Inc., helped develop the original Pokemon games.jooey said:what? no.
HappyBivouac said:It's like the people who look at FFXI and say "WHAT? No wasd+mouse controls? In THIS day and age? Unacceptable!!"
No guys, it's not inferior. You just don't like it because you're a whiny impatient child who thinks good game design is making everything as quick as easy as possible all the time.
Except you're ignoring that people are claiming that non-tile-based movement is completely infeasible with the Pokemon engine, or that it adds at best no positive gains to gameplay.Gravijah said:Just as people are dumbing themselves down to like chiptunes. HappyBivouac said:To me, 4 directional tile movement simplifies environments in a way where I can actually feel more connected to and have a greater understanding of them. In many games with full 3d, yeah, the environments are pretty, but you're not interested in every inch of them. You run through them to find the next thing you can blow the fuck up or whatever.
