Charizard curse?OMG Aero said:Seriously why isn't there a fire ant Pokemon.
It must be the most obvious bug they haven't made a Pokemon of yet, and it's not like it would be an overpowered type as it carries the Charizard curse of being 4x weak to rock.
Any Pokemon that is 4x to rock is basically unusable because Stealth Rock can take away half of its health before it even does anything. On Smogon, Charizard got knocked down a tier just because of this.Jet Grind Radio! said:I would rather they keep the basic gameplay of turn-based battles and catching themn all, but I want something a little different than collecting badges and facing the E4.
Charizard curse?
I'm not expecting shit, because Game Freak is one of the most lazy developers in the industry. I'm allowed to express my wishes because GASP this is a forum where people discuss things. Your constant attacks on anyone who says anything that goes against what YOU want and expect are pretty fucking bizarre.Andrex said:It means me and the tons of other people who like the games will continue to buy and enjoy them for what they are, while people such as yourself continue to attack them for what they could be. Nothing more.
As far as I'm concerned if you started playing Pokemon 10 years ago and are still playing today, you know what to expect by now from each new game. I accept and revel in that. What seems like small changes to some people, are big changes to me that I love. Pokemon has only gotten better with each game (RSE weren't better I guess, and I didn't like them as much but in terms of what they gave versus what they took away it's another solid release.) And this isn't even counting new fans who have started with the DS games and love them, to them it doesn't matter that the games haven't turned into ARPGs or whatever.
If you're expecting wide, sweeping changes every game you're a fan of the wrong series, period.
You think of Game Freak as lazy? I think of them more as small and conservative. The things they do may seem lazy, but I feel that they do things due to time constraints and unwillingness to change.Twig said:I'm not expecting shit, because Game Freak is one of the most lazy developers in the industry.
They could, but I believe that the MIDI music they use is much more suited for the style of their games for the most part, I think.selig said:Couldnt the finally use "real" music on the DS?

I need my Dark/Fighting fix.
I am just as confused by your confusion as you are confused by my statement. OO:upandaway said:

For type combos I've always wanted...
Bug/Fire (Fire Ant!)
Psychic/Fire (Pyrokenetic Pokemon!)
Fire/Dragon (Medieval trope Pokemon!)

Make the EVs given somewhat random. Thus screwing them over.

PataHikari said:That comparison dosn't work at all.
The purprose of the IVs and EVs were to give Pokemon some randomness. It allowed each individual Pokemon to be unique. It also enforced the idea that trained Pokemon are stronger then wild Pokemon, because the EVs give higher stats.
By making it semi random, by say making each Pokemon give two or three different sets of them with one chosen at random at the start of the battle. Or perhaps truely random, if it's so desired, the purpose behind them is perserved. While fun-sucking min-maxers are thwarted because they can't control the system.

Why do you think that? The original name of the thing IS fire ant. I don't see why the Japanese wouldn't call them that too. Also, most real animals that the Pokemon are based off of aren't in Japan.pirata said:I doubt that the name of the insect literally translates into "fire ant" in Japanese, so the typing wouldn't be obvious. Also, I don't think that there are fire ants in Japan, since they are a South American species that came to the United States in the cargo of ships (I believe) and subsequently began to wipe out other species of ant.
If you really don't know then you've been ignoring all my previous posts. Which is fine! That's your prerogative. I can't hold that against you, as I frankly don't care enough. However, I'm not going to restate everything I've said before.Enlighten me.
I also never said this. In fact, I've gone out of my way to imply the opposite just to avoid confusion. Way to go, Sparky. :3I don't know why you're so against people like me.
Out of all these, only the 3D camera is an actual "change". Better cries is an improvement and more dual-type pairings is an addition. You could argue this is all semantics, but I don't fucking care. These words have clear definitions, and you can't warp them to your will just because you happen to be crazy.3D camera, more dual-type pairings, better cries, etc. are what I would like to see and I usually get things like that. I don't know what you want, because you refuse to say.

beje said:I'll just wait for the unavoidable "Gray" version so they can put everything they had to left behind in B&W due to extreme time constraints.
Just like everytime before, duh.
And yeah, I'm also one of those people that would love to see actual animation (2 frames animation doesn't cut it anymore, sorry, we're in 2010 and carts are not limited to 1MB). Whoever says it's not possible... have you ever played any, ANY, 2D game aside for Pokémon? You could have hundreds of different monsters and NPCs and all of them had animations for 4 views (front, back, left, right), and that's without taking into account that there are infinitely better drawing tools now than in the 16-32 bit era AND that pokémon sprites are plain-shaded in an 8-colour pallete, making animation even more piss-easy. And it's not like they are budget-constrained either seing how the franchise has been a money-printing machine since 1995.
Also, fuck the checkerboard-based movement. That shit was designed to fit huge games in extremely tiny carts for systems with a ridiculously low ammount of RAM and has no sense anymore.
Everytime we get a new Pokémon gen, it looks like they get their '95 gameboy engine, reboot to zero, see how many shit they can fit in the timeframe, fool the kids with their particular "Stacey Malibu, now with NEW HAT" (omg, we tilted the camera angle 20º INNOVATION) and call it a day even when there's stuff from previous entries blatantly missing and the barebones game and story is still the same we've been playing for more than 10 years already. I just cannot see how Pokémon is the only franchise allowed by the so-called fans to do this.
Edit: I still miss the "dual storyline" feature from Ruby and Shapphire.
Big One said:
Correct. From the usual ways they do things, it seems highly likely this is referring to something other than the games and I will be really surprised if we do get even a hint of a new 5th gen Pokemon this weekend based on that information. They could always surprise us and show us a silhouette as a preview for the following week, but that's wishful thinking.Ookami-kun said:According to a friend of mine, it's possible that it could be just one of the characters getting a new pokemon - not necessarily a new mon in general.

The games not packed, last I checked they don't even use half the DS cart space. Thats just dev error IMO. :/PounchEnvy said:Can you really blame them? The game has to be packed, it already chugs at 30 fps.
Capacity has very little to do with performance.Black-Wind said:The games not packed, last I checked they don't even use half the DS cart space. Thats just dev error IMO. :/
Than I guess I'm correct in my assumption that its a dev problem and has nothing to do with the tiny bit of space on the cart that they use for the game.Firestorm said:Capacity has very little to do with performance.
Sixfortyfive said:I'd chalk it up to Game Freak being staffed with incompetent programmers.
If it means they can make another game like Drill Dozer and chalk it up to experience that can be applied to make better Pokemon games, then I'm all for it. Personally I don't think it's healthy in the long run of any studio to make only one kind of game for an extended period; while it means they get very good at making that type of game, tackling a wider breadth of designs makes it easier to adjust when a particular school of design thought starts showing its age.beje said:Yup, that's the problem I see as well. They've done nothing but portable Pokémon for 15 years, so they're completely stuck with 8 bit programming and game design mentality. Come on, they don't even have a fucking clue about designing a touch interface. See DP where they just used the GBA interface then stuck some completely useless, unrelated and unusable buttons in the other screen and called it a day. It vastly improved in HGSS, but it's nothing too fancy and the box interface is still nerfed and slow as hell.
No, it means they're trying to do much with the game and should have scaled back a bit with all the effects they have running.Black-Wind said:Than I guess I'm correct in my assumption that its a dev problem and has nothing to do with the tiny bit of space on the cart that they use for the game.
Another point for them being lazy? :/
