It was definitely localized in Japan. Those voices actors clearly are excellent at speaking English... but not flawless.

Nia is like the exposition, the tutor, the guide, the emotional story hook, the only semblance of motivation and plot beats that exist in the game, so I'm willing to overlook any drabness because of repetition.

That said, I did turn her to the lowest setting...

Does anyone know reliable ways to get Pikachu Libre into her "enhanced" mode? I assumed it was every time you land a throw but that doesn't seem to be the case. I think it might be only throws that cause phase shifts?

Electroweb does so much more damage when its enhanced and I want to capitalize on that.

Gengar is friggin sweet. Only doing the stadium mode or whatever but im undefeated five matches into blue.

Little purple guy so op

I think the game this game reminds me most of is the GC Naruto Gekitou Ninja Taisen games.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who thinks this and Clash of Ninja plays pretty similarly, especially the way combos work. I played the crap out of those games back in the day (was 2006 really 10 years ago?) so I felt right at home. Kinda funny considering so many people made comparisons to the Ninja Storm series with the field mode.

I see a lot of chatter about Suicune. But where my Gardevoir mains at?! I think she's excellent, and her Calm Mind tech is amaziiiiiing.

Fellow Gardy player here, can someone please share with me some of these Calm Mind techs/tips, I feel I sort of underuse those moves in my gameplay.

I ran into a guy online that had a 100% win rate. The keyword here being had. I am way too happy about beating someone in a video game, this can't be normal.

I just fought Travis. Dude was mumbling? Trying to make his voice deep...? Really didn't want to record his lines...?

Congrats! I came close to doing the same but I fucked up Gengar's anti-air input for the loss, fml.

Just switch to the Japanese voices, they're a thousand times more bearable (and I say that as someone who usually keeps English on in these kinds of games, like SFV for example)

I was actually keeping the English voices on just for that part since I heard it was particularly bad and wanted to see it for myself. Now that that's over with I'm probably just going to mute them entirely.

Also the legendary supports (Cresselia, Reshiram, Yvetal, Latios, etc) seem overpowered

Kinda feels like they should be banned from ranked

Nia is annoying in Japanese too. The announcer thing is kind of pointless overall.

I turned the voice volume down a bit and changed the frequency to infrequent and it seems fine for me now. It's kind of nice sometimes to have a quick reminder that I have a full support/synergy gauge since sometimes I'm too focused on the match to notice.

I haven't come across anyone using Yveltal or Latios, but the other two you listed don't seem like they're overpowered. Heck I've had more trouble with Dragonite than Reshiram.

After slumming it around a 30% this morning win rate one of my first battles of redemption that boosted me back up a bit came at the expense of a Gardevoir user who had only lost 1 of their 33 battles so far, so yeah I can understand the sentiments.
Bless you mirror coat!

Hmm I'll give that a try. I had a long day yesterday so I was in a trance while being addicted to this game.

Is there a way to change your player's eye color after making a character? I messed up and picked the one that gives you nasty permanent green eyeshadow, lol. Don't really wanna start over, but can't find a setting to switch it.

"Friendly" mode my ass, everyone's using the same four Pokemon and they just spam projectiles the second they see Machamp.

Went on like a 0-8 run for a while there, pretty much lost my mind.

Think of it as practice. You're going to need to learn how to get in close against zoners with him eventually. Frogadier really helps me as Weavile (not Machamp, but it's still a close range fighter).

Feeling so indecisive about this game. Want to dive in, but just not sure yet. I don't want to end up like Twilight Princess where I finally decide to buy it, but it's one day too late for the 20% Amazon :<

I had people just spamming projectiles on my Machamp ranked. Jumping and countering pretty much makes it easy to get in on them though, and they start mashing the moment duel phase happens lol.

In avatar customisation, press X to change your characters base choices(ie gender, skin and eyes).

RAAAAAAAAGE

I played six matches, all against MY SISTERS WHO ARE UNDER AGE 10. I DIDN'T WIN A SINGLE ONE DESPITE HAVING PLAYED VIDEO GAMES FOR OVER A DECADE SINCE BEFORE THEY WERE EVEN BORN.

Needless to say, I'm having no fun at all. They just button mashed and cleaned my clock left and right. Ugggghhhh.

And player 1 HAS to use the Gamepad, despite there being Pro Controller support? Ridiculous.

That's how you fight machamp, you cant let him get close to you.

If they are mashing, just hold a counter and punish? also, why didnt you give them the gamepad instead?

I tried against Lucha Pkachu, but my sister kept spamming volt tackle (or something) which didn't seem to have any delay/cooldown time between attacks, so even when I tried to come out of a block to attack she was still faster and got her hits in first.

I'm sure if I actually go through the tutorials and practice I'll get better, obviously, but man what a terrible first impression. Reminds me why I never play any fighting games ever outside of Smash Bros.

Too bad my love of Pokemon is so strong.

Also - are you guys using d-pad or control stick for movement?

EDIT: Didn't give them the gamepad because it was my file, and I wanted to play as my avatar. It also doesn't seem like you can create a custom avatar for player 2 in local matches, which is really lame.

Well yeah the mechanics of this game are surprisingly complicated to get the hang on, phases, the rps of counter/normals/grabs, high/low stances, assists, status effects, etc.
The counter can be held down for a bit so the enemy can go ham and you can still punish it.

Countering is different than blocking. Hold X and A to charge a counter (if you haven't remapped your controls) and release when you get an opening. You really should go through the tutorial.

I'm using the D-Pad.

Huh - had no idea. Yeah, I guess tutorial mode will be my next step.

The thing is that blocking almost never does anything, most of the time you want to be in the RPS, and block is outside of that.

Blocking is great for baiting a throw and blocking a super. It's also the only way some characters have to deal with projectiles in duel phase.

I honestly didn't start using Calm Mind until I grew comfortable with all her attacks. It has a lot of advantages. Psychic tracks the opponent and explodes upon contact, so use that to lure opponents into the positions you need them to be. You can launch Psychic and follow up with other attacks at your disposal; or the moment you knock them into duel phase, to bait the opponent into blocking, leaving themselves open to a grab. Energy ball is a nice projectile with two options (release version, and standard version), and teleport is great for people who are trying to rush you down for a read.

Stored Power is one of her best attacks, imo. You can cancel her Pokécombo into stored power for quite a lot of damage if you have yourself buffed with Calm Mind. There's honestly no reason not to incorporate her gimmicks since Calm Mind is so quick to cast. And if you feel pressured, just activate Dazzling Gleam for some sweet damage and good KB.

If you haven't already, get into the habit of abusing her double jump, it's excellent and opens yourself up to additional approach/zoning options. In duel phase you can short hop into weak attack, double jump, then heavy attack on unsuspecting opponents. You can even go from Magical Leaf > double jump > arial counter/heavy attack depending on the read. It's also a great spacing option overall.

I've been playing almost exclusively as Gardevoir both online and offline, and little by little her potential starts to reveal itself.

Hope this helps a bit!

You can also do a counter to absorb a projectile and then cancel it with a dash. Also whenever you get a knockdown and want to continue the presure blocking rarely helps any player (unless you are super low on hp). I just felt that I've been having more success using counters instead of blocks more often

Switched from a PowerA Pro controller to a old school Classic Controller Pro(Thanks to those who recommended it). MUCH better, and I remapped block and support to the ZL ZR buttons, but still find myself hitting L R too.

Any neat garchomp strats from anybody?

Haven't been able to test if my TvC Fight Stick works with this or not. Anyone had any success with one so far? Or with the TTT2 Stick?

Maybe I;ve been timing it wrong, but when I've done the counter > dash I can't block or counter again in time to get through the next projectile. I only counter > dash when I know I will end up close enough to go on the offensive.
