What are the most common Pokemon y'all have been seeing online? I see Machamp, Gengar, and a lot of Pikachus.

I've been seeing a lot of Gardevoir and Chandelure. A lot of them have no idea what to do when you get close and just start panicking.

I know it's because I'm in the scrub league and I don't know what I'm doing, but it feels like there's no advantage to getting a knock down because every up close interaction in a game of RPS. I feel like the game design overall benefits zoning characters while rush down characters have real limited options getting in, and when they do there's a 33% chance that you're going to eat a combo.

I see a lot of Weavile, Blaziken, and Pikachu.

So it seems Braixen is the least popular characters? Barely any talk about her here or when facing players online.
Kind of seems that way. Only one I've probably seen less than Braixen is Gengar. Which is ok by me since I've used Braixen a good bit and am not big on mirror matches.

See I don't get this. I can't speak to Chandelure but for Gar, you could either use counter attacks or Back A > A for a huge aoe burst that sends opponents flying.

How much of a difference are you guys noticing when leveling up Attack, Defense and so on? I wonder if it's anything like the games? I've made my Pikachu mostly balanced, prioritizing Defense because in the games his is very poor.

Some Gardevoir combos I've found in training mode:

Field Phase:
Up Weak Attack (Charged) > Moonblast |150 Damage| Phase Shift/No Phase Shift if done around max range.
Up Weak Attack (Charged) > Homing Attack x2 |145| Phase Shift/Need to be around "half screen" from opponent
Up Attack (Charged) x2 |150| No Phase Shift

Duel Phase:

Outside of Corner:

Forward Strong Attack > Down Weak Attack > Strong Attack > Pokemon Move |190| Phase Shift
Forward Strong Attack > Down Weak Attack > Strong Attack > Stored Power (Max) |218|
Forward Weak Attack > Moon Blast |144| Phase Shift
Forward Weak Attack > Forward Strong > Stored Power (Max) |224| Phase Shift
Aerial Down Strong Attack > Forward Weak Attack > Forward Strong Attack> Down Weak Attack > Pokemon Move |170| Phase Shift

Corner:

Forward Strong Attack > Jump Pokemon Move > Up Weak Attack (Charged) |296| Phase Shift/ Wall Splat (It can stay in phase if every hit doesn't connect on that last weak attack)
Stored Power (0 Charges) > Jump Pokemon Move > Up Weak Attack Charge |228| Phase Shift (Need to jump forward if you're far away from the opponent after hitting Stored Power)
Forward Weak Attack > Forward Strong Attack > Jump Pokemon Move |230| Phase Shift
Aerial Down Strong Attack > Forward Weak Attack > Forward Strong Attack > Jump Pokemon Move |230| Phase Shift

I wasn't really sure if I should write the buttons out or just go with the move names here. You might not be able to get all the attacks in for every combo in duel phase since you might get a phase shift before you reach the end depending on what you did beforehand. There's a lot more you can do for followups on some moves but I mostly tried to find max damage stuff.
DUEL PHASE
Forward weak, calm mind, energy disperse, down weak, weak, weak, stored power |189| Phase Shift

Forward weak, calm mind, energy disperse, stored power (Max) |232| Phase Shift

Burst only
Full counter charge, calm mind, energy disperse, down weak, weak, weak, stored power |220| Phase Shift

Full counter charge, calm mind, energy disperse, stored power (Max) |247|

It's tough for me to understand exactly what's happening and what to do. There are so many visual effects I get lost sometimes.

I was in one of the training sessions but I couldn't repeat a step it just kept going. It was trying to show me how to deal with a long range projectile. It seemed kind of complex, it wasn't just shield it was something else. And I could not figure it out. Anyone know what I might be talking about? Cause man I played a Chandelure and the mother fletcher wouldn't let me get close at all.

Any online videos that explain the basics really well?

This short video covers it nicely. I think I might have actually played this guy yesterday, certainly looks like his avatar. He was ridiculous as pikachu Libre and actually did some canceling during the match.

The cancel. Basically, do X+A to charge your counter, then press R and a direction during the charge. You'll absorb the attack and then dodge out of the way. The window is actually super merciful, you can hold the charge for as long or as short as you want (for however long the FULL counter charge usually takes).

So it seems Braixen is the least popular characters? Barely any talk about her here or when facing players online.

She's a little plain compared to the rest of the roster, doesn't have a high damage output without sunny day, (which has more hoops you have to jump through to get vs Machamp's charge) and doesn't have an obvious combo game. She's just not in right now, because people are looking for flash/cool factor and high damage (or both...pika pika) OR playing 'easy' beam spam with the billowing blanket, the dining room ornament, and the edgy cat fetus.

There aren't a lot of her online right now. When there are, they are predictable and play quite a game of keep away.

His down x in duel phase is really good. Has surprising reach and sets up pretty much most of his damaging combos. It always catches people off guard because of how far it goes. You just have to be careful because it's really punishable on block.

Bulk Up every chance you get.

For some pokemon if you get a knock down you have the advantage since you can throw out a move that can counter pierce and break grabs at the same time. There are also moves that have low enough recovery where you can still guard or grab even after hitting someone that tried to wake up counter. Might need to test more stuff out with more pokemon to see if everyone can do it though.

I'm kinda confused about Pika Libre. Like, how does her powered-up sparking work? I know she gets it by phase shifting with special moves, but how does that help me?
