no reason to beat yourself up over it - personally, I always find it best to mess around with every character in training for at least a couple minutes and find out which one feels best.
Man I'm having difficulty closing into turret Chandelures and Suicunes. Leaf tornado gets cancelled hard by their projectiles and one wrong dodge and I'm eating a 100+ damage laser to the face.
And oh my God, Suicunes chip damage is absurd.
It feels so good to do these juggles and Bullet Seed Prep mixups with Sceptile though.
Counter attack completely negates chip damage so you should try doing that when they try to lazer you. Most the super damaging ones have tons of startup so as long as they don't catch you during lag of a move you can just completely avoid it by countering.
finally got my level 100 Suicune, now to lab now that I have both beaten all 5 leagues and have my main at max level and can now just focus on gitting gud <3
Okay I'm loving the ever loving stuffing out of this game. Bought it on a whim and already I can see myself getting hooked for a long time to come. Have only used regular ass Pikachu and having a blast....
...Say I just beat the D League Tournament and
there was this CGI cutscene with a black Mewtwo coming out of nowhere, dude likely had more than twice the HP my Pikachu had and twice as much strength I bet, the thing is that it was my first defeat...
So now I wonder, how do I trigger this again? Did I mess up majorly? I was caught off guard by the power (and tactic) different compared to what had come before.
I love how even in defeat Pikachu has dignity, though. Had a pose that just screamed "you got lucky and you fucking know it"

Loving Sceptile . That air grab he has just feels good when catch opponents like charizards charging in the air and just Izuna drop em for 200hp damage 🙌
He also shines in the corner game. Having Y, A,Y,X,A,Y,leaf blade is amazing.
It's odd, but the relatively short combos and ridiculously high damage the game has reminds me of Super Turbo SF2 for some reason. It's quite nice to play a fighting game with such high damage but shorter combos after the Tekkens and the Marvels.
Getting a very good first impression from the game. I was checking out a few streams last night and a few of them seemed down on it, especially in regards to lag online. I had zero problems when I tested it out myself today, so that was nice to see. The matching is so fast it makes it easy to just keep going with one... more... game.
For some reason I decided to pick up Gardevoir and they're not bad. I kind of never know when I should be using calm mind (the green slow projectile seems worse than just shooting at them). I always forget to try and set up a psychic or future sight when they are knocked down too. I faced a few Garchomps who messed all of my air shenanigans up though. I jump for a petal attack and NOPE YOU GOT DIG DUGGED.
I need to start trying to work some of the tricks into my game or else I'm probably better off just choosing another fighter, lol.
nj btw. I guess Shadow Mewtwo is similar to Akuma in that he's got crap HP but apparently very strong moves. You did him in with what looked like 1 super and 3ish well spaced attacks, and he kept spamming that psi-column attack on you.

Finally moved on and tried out a couple of other characters:
Chandelure: Just.. What in the world. He debuffs himself and the enemy? He is the pinnacle of "I don't know what I'm doing." I.. I feel like he's strong but I'm just confused by his moveset and start up times.
Blaziken: Feels very good, he's very offensive in the air, great syngery mode form. Feels very mid grade character. I can see where Baziken can easily lose a fight because of his nonexistent defense.
Machamp: Extremely powerful but has no range and movement is janky. His grab is deadly. Problem being is that he's slow and must always take the offensive and at range shield for the life of him. He's a pokemon where defense and support pokemon are really important. I have to play with him more to get a gist of him.
Lucario: Defense felt very weak for me for some reason. But he has a nice combos and although he's more close range he has a large hitbox. He's not bad.
I'm still maining Suicune though. I really can't imagine playing any other character, Suicune has it all in my eyes. Range, speed, defense, combos, grab. I really don't understand why my friends thinks he's weird or weak.
Maybe the game is too easy right now? I passed the blue league earlier today and still haven't lost a match. I guess mid game is starting soon.
Jesus, Weavile is no joke. Fought a dude who'd take me down to half health in a single duel phase combo.
Managed to get a really close win since he started to get predictable as the match wore on, but a single mistake was all it took to be way behind in HP.

Bullet seed. I kinda feel cheap when using it at the end of battles for get that last bit of HP from an opponent, but it works the job and puts them on defense. Also use speed to get in close for grabs. He's faster than most other characters.
I need to beat the leagues to unlock regular Mewtwo. He looks super fun.
It's a shame they had to sacrifice it in game to hit 60fps. I would love to see how good the internal looked before they downgraded them. If there is any justice we will see an NX version.
I just found a Weavile combo that's safe on counter, block and throw! The only thing you have to look out for is a jab, but that can easily be avoided by mixing up the move you end the combo with. Now if I can only remember to do it online when there's pressure on me.
It's a fighting game. It's meant to be played with other people. The single player content will take you a bit to get through but the focus is always going to be on fighting other people. All I can tell you is that the online is good and lag happens rarely. And the local battling without LAN isn't that terrible. It's jarring when you switch to it from playing the rest of the game but you get used to it somewhat fast.
If you have no intention to play the game with other people I can't really recommend it. But I would say that for any fighting game.
I guess if you really like the gameplay. I like SFIV and all I do is play VS CPU. The campaign in Pokken isn't anything special. The story is kids anime bad, the voice acting sucks, and it's grindy as hell.
So how do you counter Garchomp's underground surfing attack whatever it's called? Had a guy spamming it and I couldn't seem to do anything fast enough as Suicune on block to punish it.
Don't have Shadow Mewtwo. I'm stuck on Weavile's high stance and the majority of character's low stances. I'm not sure if some of these low stances even have special quirks beyond lowering their hurtboxes.

It's tough for me to understand exactly what's happening and what to do. There are so many visual effects I get lost sometimes.
I was in one of the training sessions but I couldn't repeat a step it just kept going. It was trying to show me how to deal with a long range projectile. It seemed kind of complex, it wasn't just shield it was something else. And I could not figure it out. Anyone know what I might be talking about? Cause man I played a Chandelure and the mother fletcher wouldn't let me get close at all.
Any online videos that explain the basics really well?
Been playing some online matches today. Still love how amazing the netcode is.
Trying to work out if I'm missing anything from my coverage. What do you guys want to see from a resource?
Frame data is something I'm trying to work out, but that's at an insane level of intricacy. I too am also trying to work out stances
First time it played, I felt a huge SFIV/Capcom vibe. People can say negative stuff about this game, but the soundtrack is pretty much on point, overall.
This game is so much fun! I'n in Australia and I can play lag-free with anyone from any country. FINALLY A FIGHTING GAME THAT DOES THIS!!
I main Brax. She's adorable, and I love her moveset. Really getting the hang of the counter and grabs to cancel an opponent's counter or grab. That's the fun stuff.
My only negative so far is Mewtwo's pokecombo. Like, that chain of attacks is so strong and takes out like 3/4 of my HP (or thereabouts). D:
