I went from E2 to E1 without losing a game! I think I'm improving ya'll. I also managed to knock a guy in D rank back down to E rank. To add insult to injury it was a mirror match.

I've tried to find out what each character's high and low stance do, here's what I got so far

Lucario:
High: Fills Synergy Gauge
Low: ?

Blaziken:
High: Blocks medium projectiles
Low: Blocks low atacks

Pikachu:
High: Fills Synergy Gauge
Low: ?

Gardevoir:
High: Recovers grey health
Low: ?

R. Pika:
High: Support Gauge fills faster
Low: ?

Sceptile:
High: Recovers grey health
Low: ?

Gengar:
High: Avoids low attacks
Low: ?

Machamp:
High: Doesn't get stunned from high attacks
Low: Blocks low attacks

Braixen:
High: Support Gauge fills faster
Low: ?

Chandelure:
High: Avoids low attacks
Low: ?

Suicune:
High: Stat reductions wear off faster (?)
Low: ?

Weavile:
High: ?
Low: ?

Charizard:
High: Support Gauge fills faster
Low: ?

Garchomp:
High: Doesn't get stunned from medium attacks
Low: ?

Mewtwo:
High: Fills Synergy Gauge
Low: Blocks low attacks

Don't have Shadow Mewtwo. I'm stuck on Weavile's high stance and the majority of character's low stances. I'm not sure if some of these low stances even have special quirks beyond lowering their hurtboxes.
Thanks for posting this. Didn't realize the stances had these effects.

Does anyone know what happens if you fail to hit the rank up goal? Been fortunate to avoid that so far.

You have to win again to earn a rank up match.

I had a bad streak yesterday ahaha.

What about the content?

How low/high is it?

Single player? There's the leagues, which are basically increasingly difficult arcade modes with some story mixed in (only the first time you do them0. Sadly there is some grinding required to move from one league to the next. There is also a vs mode against the CPU which has a party mode with items alongside standard matches.

It's...ok I guess

The main single player mode, Ferrum League, probably takes a good 6-8 hours to get through but also it's super boring. 95% of it is just mashing against braindead opponents and only the bosses put up any sort of challenge.

If you're not planning to play online I'm not sure that it's worth full retail price.

Oh man, what is up with Green League Leader's VA? It's sooooooooo bad. XD
Apparently they did both the Japanese and English VA in Japan. For the Japanese side of things this obviously resulted in very few issues, but for the English, well... I think Travis is a Japanese guy they said to try to sound like a black guy. It sounds like that to me at least.

I personally switched to Japanese right after booting up the game if only because I didn't want to hear Travis's voice again after hearing it the first time in a review.

Braixen is a lot of fun, haven't tried anything else yet though. The animations in this game are so good. Really love the broom air-dash. Not sure how to use the light-screen though. It doesn't seem very useful.

I've just used every it to block some projectiles. Although it's just makes more sense to use block I guess. I may be crazy but the enhanced light screen might have reflected a projectile. I'd have to double check that though.

The difficulty ramp up at Shadow Mewtwo is crazy.

But I love how I go to the Red league and Nia says "This league has trainers that are like nothing you've fought before"

I mean... really? I just beat this ultimate Pokemon, possessed by unimaginable power. And you're telling me some CPU guy whose kind of good at using Chandelure or Sceptile is what I need to worry about?

Also regular Mewtwo's eyes are terrible. Super blurry, super flat, they look awful. Stop zooming in on his head!

What are the most common Pokemon y'all have been seeing online? I see Machamp, Gengar, and a lot of Pikachus.
Mewtwo and Blaziken are the two I see most often, followed by the occasional Pikachu and Chandelure. I think I've only encountered a Sceptile and Gengar once.

Probably Blaziken the most. Maybe Machamp. But generally been seeing an equal amount of characters. It's been quite good in that regard.

On another note, I was sure I read in one of the reviews that you couldn't rank down online, but that clearly isn't the case. Felt bad for the guy I beat forcing him to go rank down. :p

Ignoring the poor delivery, every NPC that isn't Nia seems to have their volume cut in half. Even when talking directly to Nia. It makes it sound like their either mumble all their lines, or she screams them.

Probably a mix of both.

This game really blows me away. Really fun, bought on a whim and I can't remember the last time I couldn't make myself stop playing online. I need to learn characters that aren't Machamp eventually, I guess. But wow, great game.

Is there any word on DLC at the moment? I would buy more characters in a second.

The word on DLC is that there are no plans for DLC.

So, once you've scanned in Shadow Mewtwo, where do you access him from? I felt kind of stupid other night. Scanned it but was nearing end of my session. Thought he'd be a playable character but isn't? But also noticed it said would only remain during that play session. Which isn't a problem since I got the card with mine. (And I know why they did that.)

Really? I've not had much trouble with Machamps, although if they get me in a combo that's sort of the end of it. But keeping away with Gar is pretty easy.

Yeah he shouldn't be a big deal, but I get destroyed when I guess wrong. I feel his combos are so short and powerful that there's never a moment when I can take control of the game, because it's always a matter of never guessing wrong, ever. Phase shift won't save you from losing 40 to 50 percent of your life in Duel phase.

Not played online much as I was trying to get to grips with the game before I jumped in(First fighting game I'm even bothering with online in).

However, Shadow Mewtwo weirdly enough.

I haven't even unlocked him yet!

You can only select him in local/single play modes. To play him in League and Online, you need to unlock him through the League.

Are. You. Ok. Trainer. therewasablackpokemonthathasbeenattacking. Other. Trainers. Be. Careful. anddintletyourguarddownforeven. A. Second. You. Did. Good.

Jesus they didn't even try. And sadly it's not bad like resident evil bad it just reeks of laziness or super low budget.

Braixen is so much fun.

I love Blaziken haha, Sceptile is my pocket character probably but man every character is really cool in this game. I still need to unlock Mewtwo.

Boss Doggie

all my loli wolf companions are so moe

So it's like Megaman X4/Megaman 8 levels of bad?!

I wouldn't say so. It's just... not good. But nothing as cringe-inducing as whatamifightingfooooooooooarrrrrr.

Yeah, most of the time it's totally inoffensive (most of the league leaders), but you've also got annoying (Nia), and then outright BAD (TRAVIS WHY). But at the end of the day it won't cause physical harm like Zero's spiel does to me every time.

I dread going against Zoning characters with Blaziken. I've gotten better at doing the rush down as quickly as possible but still practice.

I got to try out some local multi this afternoon and it's great. The frame rate being halfed to 30 sucks, but it was still a ton of fun. I think I'll try out the item mode with that person tomorrow.

Some Gardevoir combos I've found in training mode:

Field Phase:
Up Weak Attack (Charged) > Moonblast |150 Damage| Phase Shift/No Phase Shift if done around max range.
Up Weak Attack (Charged) > Homing Attack x2 |145| Phase Shift/Need to be around "half screen" from opponent
Up Attack (Charged) x2 |150| No Phase Shift

Duel Phase:

Outside of Corner:

Forward Strong Attack > Down Weak Attack > Strong Attack > Pokemon Move |190| Phase Shift
Forward Strong Attack > Down Weak Attack > Strong Attack > Stored Power (Max) |218|
Forward Weak Attack > Moon Blast |144| Phase Shift
Forward Weak Attack > Forward Strong > Stored Power (Max) |224| Phase Shift
Aerial Down Strong Attack > Forward Weak Attack > Forward Strong Attack> Down Weak Attack > Pokemon Move |170| Phase Shift

Corner:

Forward Strong Attack > Jump Pokemon Move > Up Weak Attack (Charged) |296| Phase Shift/ Wall Splat (It can stay in phase if every hit doesn't connect on that last weak attack)
Stored Power (0 Charges) > Jump Pokemon Move > Up Weak Attack Charge |228| Phase Shift (Need to jump forward if you're far away from the opponent after hitting Stored Power)
Forward Weak Attack > Forward Strong Attack > Jump Pokemon Move |230| Phase Shift
Aerial Down Strong Attack > Forward Weak Attack > Forward Strong Attack > Jump Pokemon Move |218| Phase Shift

I wasn't really sure if I should write the buttons out or just go with the move names here. You might not be able to get all the attacks in for every combo in duel phase since you might get a phase shift before you reach the end depending on what you did beforehand. There's a lot more you can do for followups on some moves but I mostly tried to find max damage stuff.

I pretty much only play Gard and what really gets me off of my game is rapid switches between phases. Gard has some good zoning moves but one is bad at anti air and the other is great at it.

So charizard's fire punch is a counter? Guess I should have realized sooner due to the blue. Seems like it could be pretty useful for positioning. And you can cancel it into being in fly stance. Kind of want to learn Charizard. Seismic toss into burst attack is real nice.
