Pokkén Tournament |OT| King of Iron Tail Tournament

Almost done with Chroma League. I don't know what it is but it seems like cpu Braixen pulls non stop perfect reads out of its ass. No other character is nearly that smart.

lol the Champion couldn't handle Gardevoir's projectile game.

I think Yvetal/Latios is my new favorite combo. Locking out someone's Synergy gauge is really strong, and the attack itself is plenty damaging on its own.

And with only 1 recorded loss the grindfest that is the Ferrum League is finally done. And what's the big reward for putting up with the iron league in addition to more pointless clothes??
A santa outfit for Nia... >.>

I really like Yveltal's support attack too but a lot of the people I face online have a habit of blocking through the whole thing. I've ended up switching back to either fennekin/emolga or diglett/cubone.

More pointless clothes. WHICH I LOVE.

The Champion basically tells you to
"go play online" after you beat her.

chandelure, shadow mewtwo will ruin the competitive aspect of this game.. i DONT want to see top 8 being all chandelures and mewtwos spamming the hell out each other.

How does friendly matchmaking work? Is it just completely random? I want to pick up another character but jumping right in at my rank sounds like a recipe for disaster. I need more practice maneuvering around the attack triangle since most of my game right now is keeping people the fuck out with Garde.

I figured out a charged forward + Y in field phase pierces counters as well, so she has one piercing attack in each phase. At my level in ranked, people who are trying to CADC end up eating those hits quite a lot.

I've been trying to find a use for backward + X in duel phase but it's so slow to wind up. Maybe as a follow up to psychic if you have the other guy spooked?

Started getting into ranked today. Got 21 wins in a row, but eventually lost to a good Charizard player. > . <

also, neat Gardevoir combo using Farfetch'd support:

Tried doing this for half an hour, but those instant air shots are really hard to get down consistently. If your timing is even a little bit off then the opponent goes into the air.

Wow, over 300 damage. This looks like a more ridiculous version of that Gengar loop and probably even more difficult to do.

Sometimes I don't even bother with low win rate Chandelure, Lucario and simliar 'mons since they just keep spamming their attacks and I have to slowly work my way towards them since all pursuit moves risk of teleporting him right into their projectiles and his own projectile attacks largely suck IMO.
EDIT: And yeah he's slow. It doesn't help that his limbs are so ridiculously short.
Pachi helps gengar a lot in those sorts of matchups, IMO. I wish he could hold his invincibilty effects for longer though (haunt is useless at waiting out suicune unless I missed something).

Hm, I just realized I never really tried his aerial A against Suicune. I wonder if the hitbox is tall enough.

Chandelure doesn't do chip-damage with projectiles though and S. Mewtwo beats him/her/it at range from what I've seen, and I suspect other zoners do too. The small projectiles are quite harmless and easy to dodge, or just block and press forward

I am super surprised with how few Charizards I've seen online. I was expecting it to be this game's Ken

I love Charizard. I went through the league with a Charizard and I got it to level 100. He falls under this game's big and slow character category, though. Those characters aren't usually very popular. Blaziken might be more like Ken. I don't see much of him online, though. I see a lot of Braixen and Luchachu now. I saw a lot of Gengar when starting out, but not anymore.

After taking one too many L's I've decided to switch from Sceptile to Braixen. I love Sceptile but it can't get in on projectile characters that well. Sorry chill lizard...

21 Wins in a row? I can barely manage 1 win every 3 or 4 games. God why am I so bad?

Blaziken's blaze kick to flare blitz is so good. It's even better when your opponent blocks the kick but doesn't expect an enhanced blitz.

You can use that move to knock them to a wall and then follow up with a sky uppercut. Blaziken is just nasty at wall pressure.

Wow, unlocking Shadow Mewtwo was kind of a chore.

Kind of a shame it doesn't appear that you can play on the night time version of the gym. It does show up occasionally online, I just can't find the option to pick it.

Is there a disconnect rate somewhere? Things went to shit on my side tonight.

Context: I'm at my stepfather's place in Ottawa and managed to do a couple of ranked during the day, five that I all won (yay!) but it seems like his connection went to shit tonight...I got disconnected twice in beggining of fights, game was lagging as hell then black screen and warning of lost connection...

THEN I try again, win the fight, and just after leveling up my Brax I get disconnected and I get a PG penalty AND my win wasn't registered...I'm now salty and won't touch online until I'm back in Quebec. I don't want that shit to happen again and I even less want to deteriorate other's matches because of that shitty connection.

So yeah, is there a disconnect rate? I don't want people to think I'm a quitter because I had 3 shitty disconnects in one night. :(

Played about 20 games with Lucario, and I can't really figure out what I'm supposed to be doing with him (even though my W/L record ended up decent). His projectiles are actually quite good for a non-zoner and the bo staff rush has a lot of reach, but I think it's punishable. He doesn't seem to have any special counter or grab moves like some of the other characters get.

It's kind of a shame he has so many awesome follow ups to his X attacks but ONLY in Synergy form.

EDIT: And what do I do when I get a knockdown? With Gardevoir I take the chance to set up traps but with Lucario I'm just standing there and guessing. I guess that's just what you do with other characters? Lol

Yeah you use the knock down as an opportunity to force the opponent to guess grab or attack.

Can someone tell me the purpose of Sceptile's bullet seed? I know by pressing A again he launches the seeds but other than that is it just another jump move?

Finally gave up on Sceptile... its just not working for me. Tried a few of the others until I gave Luchachu a chance.

I'll be honest, I was salty he took Hawlucha's place, but when I picked him... it made sense. It felt just right. His grabs, his counters, everything about it...

Just found out Garchomp has Bryan Fury's laugh as one of his victory animations so i'm inclined to pick him up now. Having Jet Upper got me interested in him but now I'm sold.

Pikachu Libre is stupid as fuck unless you have good ranged options. The character has deceptively good neutral. Eats my Lucario alive in neutral and the damage conversations are hilariously lopsided

I don't really play her, but I can't get over the throw animations. The elbow drops, the stunners, the tiny pikachu dropkicks. This character is genius.

Oh, speaking of animations, it recently struck me as kind of amazing that Machamp looks so natural. It's got an extra set of arms just popped in there, but all of the animations are perfect for the extra limbs and they never really jump out at me as being weird/out of place. It's sort of hard to describe in text.

It really is impressive how natural the movements of the Pokémon feel. Gengar feels so ethereal, sometimes liquid sometimes gaseous and it transitions so well.

I dunno. Looking at his back and imagining 2 sets of shoulders being there makes me kind of nauseous

I got better with Sceptile when I stopped trying to use him as if he's a combo heavy character. Sceptile works best for set-ups. Swing away when your up against the wall, create some space so that you can use Giga Drain, launching opponents in the air with Bullet Seed and following it up with a Leaf Storm. Sceptile is a pain in the ass to learn but can be worth it.

Thanks for the tips! I think my main problem is more than I have no basics, I am pretty much starting on 0 and Sceptile feels very technical and I always miss the inputs/traps I try to setup, and I have no basics to go back to when I feel the pressure. I'll definitely go back to it when I feel more confident with the game.

Its benefits are great, and it has fast charge time. Sure it can only be called once but that's not too bad.
