unrelated, i'm really liking Machamp

lol wow, I never knew I liked Machamp that much. This is like when Primeape took off.

I'm a lifter/bodybuilder and have always wanted to have a Machamp on a competitive team in the mainline games. So the second I saw it show up in this game, I knew I'd be maining Machamp.

That gif though. Haha.

Honestly with Machamp being a badass in that XY Hawlucha episode, then seeing the Pokken reveal with it on top of deciding to use Machamp in Omega Ruby had the guy quickly rising up to be one of my favourite Pokemon.

Actually playing him in this game solidifies his position in my top 10 as well.

So, how popular is the online play in Europe? I tried the European demo and liked what I saw. Only issue is to know if the European Online is active enough. I fear the community wont stay big enough through the year.

The matchmaking is worldwide so you will be playing everyone.

Was hitting the lab for a while yesterday the damage scaling on combos is pretty harsh, especially if you try confirming a combo into Super. Best to use more practical combos than many fancy/cooler looking ones or just a raw Super for more damage.

Also I've have not played any of the other Pokemon at all besides Garchomp and to see such variety they put in each one is really fantastic. Even after Pokken was shown and being excited for it, I honestly didn't expect much gameplay wise but this game feels like a breath of fresh air for some reason. Sure it has faults here and there and needs plenty of tweaking but the core game play is really fun that can be improved in a sequel. Much props to the Tekken Team for a really great Pokemon fighter imo and I hope it does well for them!

Also props on their matchmaking because it's just sooooo f'in fast in this game. Game has been really great netcode wise for me like 95% of the time.

Yeah, for real. I did a Diglet support into super earlier and I though it'd do really good damage but it did way less than just a raw super which is kind of baffling. Didn't even get the full Diglet combo, just enough to get in with super. I've had way more success just using raw super off of a good read.

Yup, I never bother comboing my super in this game. I will fire it off either as a punish or prediction or a way to secure a game.

I'm used to it coming from NRS games where the meter is tied to your special moves. Basically makes supers a waste of meter, so good players never use them.

Yep, I've tested many variations of combos with/without assists and it's just better to do raw supers than a combo into super lol. I think it's only fun to use if the opponent is basically near dead and you just wanna be flashy to end the match but otherwise, nope.

This is how I've come to play for the most part. I'll keep my synergy on hold till the end unless the match requires me to pull it out earlier whether it's cause im getting whooped bad or need to cancel theirs to save myself.

The Braixen matchup as Machamp
001231Z.gif

I can deal with any projectile, but Fire Blast is my bane. This one dude pretty much just spammed the move in duel phase and I couldn't do anything. Jump over? Nah. Counter dash cancel? Kept getting stuffed because I didn't know the timing. The only thing I could do was advance slowly while blocking every hit coming my way. (In retrospect I could have tried Karate Chop and see if it beats it) The match is easy once I get the switch into duel phase and not give them any distance, or when I actually get in on all that Fire Blast spam, which is how I won the next two rounds after getting decimated in round 1.

Not fun lol

Spamming Karate Chop beats out the Fire Blast nicely.

What annoyed me (I'm a Machamp main too) is when a good Braxien mixes it up and uses that....aerial fire bomb attack, which covers Macahmp's air rush down. Right as I'm about to come in.

good Gardevoirs are also annoying. When they know how to use their projectiles really well in duel phase. Cause if I do karate chop and she already sends a slow projectile out, I'll cut through the first and then get hit by the second during the ending lag.

Sigh. The trials of being Machamp.

.
Can't give a real tier list yet but I can do a write up later tonight with impressions and rough estamates.

Is shadow mewtwo infinite patched yet? Stopped playing ranked because of it, just waiting

LOL Why? It's not rampant.

I don't know about it getting patched yet, but from my experience Shadow Mewtwo having an infinite blockstring has done nothing to stop netplay from being filled with Machamps.

You probably shouldn't worry too much about the character. People generally don't care enough about their ranking to start playing a new character when something stupid is discovered.

No? I'd abuse the fuck out of it lol, I figure enough people on the internet are dicks

MACHAMP PROTIPS:

I'm currently C4 with about 150 Machamp ranked games played at a 70% winrate. (But maybe that means nothing right now?)

Anyways lets get to the tips.

TIP 1: Machamps backhand slash DELETES ENEMY PROJECTILES. YES THIS EVEN MEANS ALMOST ALL OF SHADOW MEWTWOS PROJECTILES EVEN THE BIG ORANGE BEAM (This single handedly makes this matchup even, get in twice and you win.) . The only character this does not apply to is Chandelure and characters with huge charged DBZ style beams. (The backhand slash input is away from your opponent + A)

TIP 2: Air grabs are your friend. A well timed air grab on your opponents wakeup will beat a super.Air grabs on wakeup in general make your ground slam that much better. I usually only reccomend air grabs in 2D mode. In 3d mode they are much much harder to setup.

TIP 3: In 2D mode Y Y is cancelable which is great because Machamp has forward + A, a massive amount of people fall for this and if they don't just press the third Y of the combo next time you do it and they will learn to respect it.

Let me know if you guys liked these Machamp tips. GL dudes.

Trying to main Machamp so thanks for this

All of these are good tips. The only thing I can think of to add to this is that Whimiscott is such an amazing support for machamp against the heavy projectile users in this game. Plus it seems like half of the people online doesn't know what it does, and lets you get some great hits in.

Also, the jump X to Y, Y, to forward A is pretty much my bread and butter. With bulk up on it does amazing damage. Also, if you get a phase change using your jump X in field mode to change to duel mode while the enemy is on the ground, you can usually get a down X right after. They could block it, and it is unsafe on block, so prob not best to do all the time, but I find people usually don't block right after a phase change. The best combo to do with that is Down X, X, jump forward Y (4 hits), down X, X, down A.

Worth noting Machamp's air grab in duel phase doesn't change phases. So you can keep your opponent guessing and have a big advantage. You can also buffer an air grab right as you jump, so you can get instant air grabs.

Also the no.1 Machamp tip is to always bulk up whenever you have the chance. It seems like an easy thing to keep in mind but I've seen Champs not go for bulking up when they have the chance and instead deciding to rush in. Patient play is key for this character, and bulk up'd specials have more uses outside damage.

This is good for projectile spam. Now is it the entirety of a projectile string or the entirety of the animation?

Oh, also about machamp, while in synergy mode, some of your A moves have armor. I haven't tested it much, so I'm not sure of the specifics, but I definitely have gone through projectiles with nuetral A while in synergy mode + bulk up in field phase. Does anyone know the specifics?

Generally speaking characters in burst mode can armor through light attacks, so I don't think it's a Machamp specific thing.

I played a crap ton of online today and man does my limitations with braxien show :/ there were so many games where i just got blown up by the same moves over and over (charizard having armor on all of the things is annoying and nia is a liar i do not get priority once i block an attack >:T) also i got hit by the shadow mewtwo infinite it was a... fun little 10 seconds of my life lol

i did learn a few new approach options though and learned that flare drive or w/e her broom stick move is called auto corrects which makes it a neat little tool (also learned that pika, braxien's psywave, lucarios aura sphere and gardevoirs beam and that weird projectile beats fire blast

edit: also tried to delete my online records due to unfair disconnects through due to my internet only to learn that i did a stupid and deleted all of my progress for nothing :T

Thanks. I've been at 65% win rate, trying to get to 70 lol. Yeah, I've been karate choping projectiles, but then lucario or mewtwo does the beam and I'm like eff. Once I memorize all the other pokemon's attacks and their charge ups, then it'll be less of an issue

never thought about the air grab thing. Nice, thanks.

Oh yeah i remember doing the Y Y cancel thing in training mode among other combos.. I need to keep the presence of mind to pull it off more during ranked matches.

Another small thing thing is that some players (who are unfamiliar with machamp) think that his midair "X" is easily punishable after you come down.So they'll try to attack usually. Which leaves them open.

What's everyone's perferred Down X combo in duel phase?

down XX, jump Y, down XX, down A is probably optimal for damage especially with bulk up but there's other variations that don't change phases if you wanna keep maintaining momentum. down XX, jump Y and then go for air grab as as you land for respectable 217 damage. (If you have bulk up, down XX, jump y and up A does around 230~ iirc)

Ran into my first Shadow Mewtwo infinite player today. Thank goodness they didn't really know how to deal with anyone that got around it. That shot really limits your options.

Finally got to play it today, I take back what I said about the 3D portions being derivative of Storm Snoozefest. It's much closer to clash of ninja than I originally gave it credit for.
I need Charizard vs fireball spammers tips. I can't deal with a character that can cover all space in front of it with fireballs.
Dash through? Idk.

Okay, so I have to fight 2 rounds vs a shadow mewtwo that has 3k hp and can read my inputs and react on frame 1? cool
The last round was: Okay I activate synergy, now I'll try... *nope, have a burst on frame one of your jab*
