Finally finished the Chrom League and unlocked everything related to gameplay. Don't care about the cosmetic bonuses you get from the one after it.

I guess it's time to really start to dig deeper into the characters.

You actually get cosmetics out of it? I started it because I felt like it.

Took my lvl 6 odd Garchomp online for a swing, after a rough start of getting used to his moves I gotta say this pokemon seems incredibly well rounded, I might be falling for him.
Garchomp is currently satisfying my need for hitting foes hard in the face and having better projectile evading options.
Time to grind those levels!

Any Tier list? Lucha Pikachu is pretty good so far.
Kinda too early for one. Tbh characters in this game have so many options I don't see any of them being not viable...yet anyway.

Characters that I thought were silly I found that they actually have exploitable weaknesses. (like I found out Pika's counter is slower than other characters and suddenly he doesn't seem as strong as I thought, and Chandelure can't even deal chip damage with its projectiles.) Shadow Mewtwo seems a bit overtuned to me though lol, but mostly because of Miracle Eye.

I think the game is in a good place. Anything beyond removing the ShadowTwo infinite blockstring would be annoying.

Well, giving Gardevoir at least a viable close range option outside of attack triangle of would be nice. Right now, she feels like the only zoner with no options up close.

Thinking about getting this but I was wondering how easy/difficult it is to challenge and play matches against people on your friends list...

There is a friends only option. You can also do something like making a room with code you can give to people. It's sort of like Mario Kart communities.

Mega Gengar's throw is so fucking satisfying.

The hitboxes on some of her attacks are downright stupid. I'd rather not make her better.

No patch for the infinite blockstring? That's disappointing. I do think it's too early to make any other balance changes right now, even if I can think of a couple changes I'd like. At least give people the time to explore potential counters and let the meta develop before cutting moves down to size.

Anybody notice the amount of players wearing shades, earphones and fedoras that nearly always use either Blaziken, Lucario or Machamps? You always know that they turn on synergy asap and use the special attack instantly.

I played the demo a while back and had a bit of fun with it, but was confused because the lack of a training mode (where the CPU has infinite health and just stands there) meant I couldn't take my time to determine which buttons did which combos, exactly what triggers a phase shift, etc. I'm not that into fighting games, so I like it when one I'm intrigued by allows me to tinker around with the mechanics at my own pace.

Does the full game allow for that, and have a training mode?

The full game does indeed have a training mode. You can reset to a few important positions at the touch of one or two buttons, and the menu gives you some really nice options.

You also have some pretty solid tutorials. 3 that go through the game's mechanics, one for each character that has you perform every move for that character, and then another one for each character that goes through many of that character's basic combos.

Thanks a lot. That may have sold me on the game, as I enjoyed the demo more than expected, but was just concerned about how accessible it is, as most fighters seem to make a point of being completely inaccessible to people who don't hav emuch experience with fighting games.

I'll probably wait until I can get it a little cheaper though, as I have enough to play at the moment!

I get what you mean. In terms of accessibility, it also really helps this game that most moves are just [button] + [direction]. Some combos are still hard to string together, but long combos scale so much that they're usually not too important.

Feels like I always end up with too many games to play. I still haven't finished FE, and Dark Souls is on the way soon. :x

Well, I'm a total fighting game scrub. Never really bothered with them much outside of single player modes until Pokken, and I found myself doing okay, even online. Helps that a lot of other people seemed to be in the same boat.

Most people who A) bought the game and B) already know how to play fighting games are in the upper-D ranks and higher now. Until you git gud and rank up you'll generally get paired online with other people who also suck ass at fighting games, don't you worry. :3

A patch for Pokkén Tournament on the Wii U has been announced. This patch is said to come in early April and is said to fix a few of the issues that are plaguing the game. The full extent of the patch is not yet known, but we know it will contain the following

A fix for Shadow Mewtwo where it can cause an infinite combo that cannot be stopped
An adjustment for Reshiram
Various bug fixes

This has to be one of the worst demos I've ever seen... Oo
I can clearly see there's quality here, but the lack of options and the ridiculously easy level of the opponent are kind of insulting, really.
Why am I being forced to use the gamepad? Why can't I change the buttons or for that matter why are there no options at all?
There's only 1 fight and both rounds are over in less than 2 minutes. What in the hell were they thinking?

Anywhoo, game seems ace, definite buy whenever it drops significantly in price. ^^

It's a demo. Demos shouldn't be the full game.

The demo was made for store kiosks and is where it was initially available. They decided to just put that demo up on the eShop without changing it, which of course results in a home demo that has restrictions that only make sense on a store kiosk.

Just mail me your game and play the demo to your heart's delight!

That's crazy! But maybe crazy enough to work.

Just had my first laggy Mewtwo spamming hyper beam. christ.

I had to face a laggy spamming Braixen. Couldn't avoid her attacks playing Gengar as I couldn't time the dodge right. What's funny is that I fought that player earlier when they were using Mewtwo and the connection was more solid.

I need suggestions from gaf. I am a huge tekken fan and i try to even buy collector editions of tekken games if i can or afford to. I also hate pokemon from my heart and dont like anything related to them. Will i enjoy the game as a tekken or hate it as pokemon ?

You'll hate it as Pokemon lol.

Tekken is only kind of visible in some of the moves + the air juggles etc. It plays and feels very different apart from that and the other references are mostly homages.
