PPP twitter: "We don't have Obama up 14 in Wisconsin but we have him up a lot more than we did last week. Results between 11 and Noon"

Wisconsin is slipping away

It was never going to flip anyway. The Republicans just wanted to convince themselves they had another avenue to get to a potential squeaker victory.

Sure this came up yesterday, but....

WI, OH, and VA put Obama at 278, without needing NV, NH, FL, IA, NC, CO.

Best case scenario for Obama second term mostly depends on whether housing really has bottomed out and how well QE3 picks things up. Here's my "fantasy policy" list.

Leave Afghanistan
Sucessfully implement ACA
Expiration of Bush cuts
Tuition/School lending reform
Infastructure bill, boost for HSR, Infastructure bank
New energy bill, continue building on ARRA, maybe a mild carbon tax...giving up on cap and trade.
Comprehensive tax reform.

FWIW, Wang was just about dead on in predicting 2008 and was off by 13 seats in 2010, pretty close but just about where Nate was that year. He says the median average is the democrats up by 16 seats.

Everyone's getting way ahead of themselves here. Yes, things are looking up for the Dems (and there's no way in hell Romney's gonna win) but all this talk of "waves" and retaking the House and whatnot is totally premature. We've still got nearly 2 months left of this campaign and the economy remains in a tough spot. Plus I'm not convinced Romney's implosion is seriously gonna effect the downticket races.

Now it's not that I don't wanna believe it. Oh man do I wanna believe it. I just think people oughtta temper their expectations a little. It's amazing how a week or two of positive polls can get everyone worked up into a pollyannaish froth. Things are good but they ain't THAT good.

Fuck I hope not unless they are replaced with sensible Dems.

Sorry Manos, but I think the Republican party right now needs an ass kicking that will hopefully make them rethink some things and bring them back to sanity. To me this election is about sending a message that one party cannot wholesale disregard the American public and make their number 1 goal political power over anything else. The party needs to get taken out back and shot, and hopefully we'll get some sensible republicans afterwards.

lol some of the wishlists here are pretty optimistic, even if democrats do take the house (which is also optimistic).

never forget that many democrats are conservative. for instance, why would a public option pass now when it didn't have enough support last time?

Warren am cry
The new poll by UMass Lowell and the Boston Herald found Brown leading Warren by four percentage points (49 percent to 45 percent) among 497 registered voters deemed likely to vote in the November election. The survey was conducted Sept. 13 through Sept. 17, beginning a week after the Democratic convention. The UMass Lowell survey called random samples of both landline and mobile phone numbers.

BUT

The five other polls have shown Warren leading by margins varying from two to six percentage points. Relatively small sample sizes likely contribute to the variation. All but one of the new surveys sampled from 400 to 600 likely voters, for reported margins of error ranging from +/- 4 percent to +/- 5 percent.

Certainly an outlier. Warren is clear favorite. Besides, that's an awfully small sample size.

Slow your roll buddy, whoa. He may have sparked a revolution and healed the earth but he forgot why he was elected in the first place: to fix the economy. His policies aren't popular, but he's a very good politician and probably can't be beaten by a bad politician.

So you don't view health care as an economic issue?

How many actual Blue Dog Democrats are left from that class? Is there still an annoyingly large contingent of them?

About half the contingent that was in the 2008-2010 Congress got wiped out and only a few, if any, would be coming into this next caucus if the House does indeed flip back.

Lol, I love facebook sometimes. I was responding nicely to my wife's nephew's post about not having to vote for the lesser of two evils and voting for Gary Johnson. I was actually reassuring and saying that if you live in a state that's pretty solidly going one way it's not too terrible to vote for a 3rd party (someone else was saying a vote for him is a vote for Obama). Then that person starts ragging on me saying it's a shame indoctrination has hit the young and allowed socialism and communism to become the norm. I said it's a shame the older generation have allowed indoctrination and fear tactics to hit them that they think Obama is actually communist or socialist. She keeps bringing up stupid stuff about how she's older than me and knows more. I just keep repeating that Obama is not a communist and that's a fact.

Hah, while writing this she got even more butthurt. Initially she said I should wait until her husband came home to give me his facts (she really said "his facts," lol). Now she's saying I insulted her intelligence and she knows more than I will EVER know. God I love right wing wackjobs.

Damn, RustyNails, that list looks amazing.

Add a 50% tax bracket on incomes over $1 million per year that applies only to people in the financial sector, a constitutional amendment to overturn Citizens United, public campaign financing, and add dinosaurs to those unicorns and carebears, and we'll have one hell of a four year ride. Maybe we can use some tax revenue to fund dinosaur cloning and then balance the budget on tourism.

But seriously, I would love to see an FDR-level tax rate applied only to the financial sector. Not sure if it would be constitutional, but I can dream.
This can only end badly. Haven't you read Billy and the Clonosaurus?

His facts. I like how she thinks her husband saying something automatically gives it more credibility.

Well he's apparently a retired engineer and marine! (yes, this was part of her explanation...)

I asked her why she had to wait for him if she already thinks she's smarter than I will ever be.

You were arguing politics on Facebook. There's no other way this could've played out.

Lol, that lady can't help herself. She started up the conversation again with that redistribution comment:

"He's not socialist or communist "Fact". Wow I guess his redistribution comments and top advisors (Valerie Jarrett - Chicago slum lord, Anita Dunn- Mao is my role model, Cass Sunstein- fellin"

then:

"John Holdren- climate change and "people who contribute to social deterioration should be sterilized",Carol Browner- officer in "Socialist International's Commission, Van Jones- self proclamed Communist,Jeremiah Wright- "Liberation from oppression""

I barely know who half these people are.

How does being a slumlord make you socialist? She should love slumlords! They're a traditional part of America's great capitalist economy.

Let me take a stab at this....she will only redistribute others money, not her own, and will toss crumbs to the angry mob...while she enjoys living the inner party live....how was that?

I generally take more of a "his policies haven't really increased the level of socialism in our government, and socialism ain't so bad anyways" stance.

Ask her what policies of his she'd consider socialist, then demonstrate why they're not.

Fair points, all. That said, this is beginning to feel a bit like 2010 in reverse, where we were basically just assuming it would all work out OK while ignoring the signs that the tide was pulling out.

She just said something about how he's always talking about the rich paying more... also put in a jab about the democrats blocking a budget for 4 years! Not sure that makes them communist, lol. I responded with the rich paying more thing that under Obama the rich pay less than they did under Reagon, Nixon, and Eisenhower, etc.
