The Mariah record Gotti refers to is "Loverboy," from the movie Glitter. Carey had picked out a sample from Yellow Magic Orchestra's recording of "Firecracker" to be the basis of the song. She and Ja Rule worked on it, and the song was included on daily viewings from the filming of Glitter.

But Glitter was a Sony Pictures release, which is a sister company of Sony Music. Mottola, according to sources who worked on the movie, was surreptitiously viewing footage of Glitter while his ex-wife was shooting it.

"Mariah was so paranoid about the music getting out that we had another singer sing the temporary versions," says a Glitter insider.

"When Jennifer Lopez's record came out, and had the exact same song, we knew she had a right to be paranoid. We couldn't believe it."

I always wonder what would have happened had she continued her success and I think I prefer it the way it is now, with her comeback during EoM. I imagine her just fizzling out afterward and fading into obscurity, but honestly don't know music trends well enough to know if anything she released from that point on afterwards would have continued her dominance. Or if it would have been enough to overcome Glitter's impact.

Honestly, I also think there are better and more interesting songs on BWET, but I can see why she's promoting Ice Princess next. After Chasing Time (which was rightfully the first single and one of the best songs on the album), Ice Princess the most demonstrates that Azealia can be viable on radio.

The other tracks, while artsy and interesting, wouldn't really work. And at this point Azealia needs to be showing people that she can make money for somebody. Smart move for her.
