I use to make them with Jasc as well until 2 months ago when I decided to just use PS
but it might not be for you since you make a lot of gifs and PS will take more memory
but adjusting the color tone and making them darker usually helps
on a different note since you are Navy now maybe you can do what the others have never attempted
and make gifs from Battleship
this gif looks good but maybe because the scene is naturally dark

Well the problem there is that I have a shitty 480p recording but it's all I had to go by.
The Ace Attorney film GIF is from a 720p bluray rip.
I guess it all depends on the source file?
Battleship, isn't Rihanna only in it for five minutes? Shouldn't take long.
The Scream 4 GIFs are ones that are fucked up too.
I guess the best way to do it is find the highest quality source first, then just downscale it. It creates a crisper image

Just curious about this. What do you mean "darker"?
I usually enhance blacks in my gifs to make them more stark. Do you find that decreasing brightness using an adjustment layer produces better results?

Ah. I prefer selective color tool myself because it can adjust the blacks without also making whites grayer.
Though sometimes I go overboard and make my colors stupid vibrant..... almost gaudy lol.
Maybe I should fiddle with the curves tool more.
