Predict the price of the Wii U (what are you willing to pay?)

$299 is unrealistic considering that this console looks to be quite powerful, and the 3DS is $250
Yeah, but the 3DS is way overpriced.

I'm predicting $299, too. I won't pick it up at that price unless they reveal some must have games between now and then (which is entirely likely).

It's more powerful than the PS360, sure, but it not like the difference is all that significant, and those systems are now selling for around $200

I doubt the components will be so high in cost as to require a price tag over $300, not to mention going too high will be detrimental to getting the average wii owner to upgrade

Looking through this thread makes it seem like it may be a big jump, a generation at least from 360/PS3

Again, with inflation and the 3DS' price considered, $300 just doesn't make sense. Obviously $300 would be ideal but Nintendo doesn't like losing money on it's consoles and is in hubris mode right now

Wiiu = Only marginally more powerful then current gen consoles

200 = buy at launch
250 = wait for games

Wiiu = at least 4x more powerful

350 = LAUNCH
400 = Wait for games

$349.99 with a proof of concept/tech demo as a pack in.

$299 with one controller bundled. Each additional controller will cost $129.

They already confirmed they aren't selling Wii U controllers separately. Only bundled with the console.

My guess is $299.

I'd bet $299.99. I'd pay for that, for sure (I'd probably go higher too). The controller seems like an awesome idea, and I need my Zelda/Mario/Metroid dammit.

I'd bet it will be $350, and will include some mini game collection like Wii Sports.

Though, I think a lot of it will have to do with the price of 360 and PS3 at the time of release. Being substantially more expensive than them when it launches wouldn't be a smart move.

I don't even think the controller will be that much. I don't think it's as high-tech as some of you seem to think it is. It's not as high-tech as an iPad. It's not a tablet. It's not as high-tech as a PSP. It's not a a real portable game system. I think all it really does is display video and send controller input back and forth. I doubt it has a CPU, GPU, ect.

And I don't think they can get away with charging more than Sony and MS for what is basically 2005 hardware or worse.

I'd pay $400 Australian for one (3DS sells for $339 on average)

However it'd need to have a good launch line up (unlike the 3DS)

You're right, but it's hard to pin down. There's never been a product that was just a 6" touch screen so who's to say how much it costs but considering PS3/360 controllers retail for $30-45 I don't think something like $75-$100 is unreasonable, depending on the resolution/dpi of the screen.

We have nothing but speculation until a detailed analysis of real games running on the platform can be performed. Remember, the PS3 was supposed to blow the Xbox 360 out of the water with the power of the Cell, but that didn't exactly happen.

My take on price? They need to launch at $249.99 and drop the 3DS down to $179.99. Even then, I don't see lightning striking twice for them this round. The WiiU is no Wii, just like the 3DS is no DS. Nintendo has abandoned their wildly successful 'blue ocean' strategy, and I fear this new console might be Gamecube 2. Again, opinions and speculation...

Didn´t Iwata say, at the WiiU unveiling, that it´s not being made as an affordable/cheap console? I´m pretty sure thats what he said.
Nothing under $400 is my guess. And I think they will play the 2 consoles in one card with the controller somewhat acting as a portable.

I'll echo another $299.99. When this thing launches next year, the PS3 and 360 (non arcade) should be under $300. Nintendo needs to price this thing competitively for it to succeed, especially with such an entrenched target user base.

It will probably be $300 or $350. I wouldn't pay more than $200 for it as is, given there was little to no games even announced and a new Smash Bros is not worth the price of admission + game price.

Give me some games and some reassurance from people playing more core games for gamers that the controller isn't ass and I'll reconsider.

depends whats in the box. i have a feeling nintendo will toss some sort of wii sports title in there but i think it will be priced around the same as the wii was. instead of $249 like the wii maybe $279-$299 because of the additional controller cost.

personally i'd pay $179 at most unless some amazing software shows up. by the time WU comes out i will have played this gen for 6+ years. slight bump in power aside im not willing to spend a lot of money on another system that will be a generation old at launch fancy controller or not.

imo WU is screwed unless microsoft and sony play it conservative with their next consoles. who gives a shit if BF3, Ass. Creed and other ports come to the system. maybe they'll look slightly nicer but thats not enough to make me wait for them and when the next gen systems show up next E3 and launch possibly late 2012 early 2013 then why bother with WU. The system is going to be stuck in the same place nintendo was this gen, getting half assed ports at best. It'll become another nintendo box and to me thats not enough anymore because nintendos own games have become recycled to the point of tedium.

$350 for something coming out next year with PS360 specs is the most I will pay. Controller innovation or not, $350 is my personal price ceiling.

Additional controllers being more than $100 is gouging for something that doesn't have multitouch, IMO. I say $80 controllers.

I'm willing to pay $500 for a powerful HD Nintendo console with real 3rd party support.

It'll probably be around $350-$450 though.

Difference between Cell and this CPU is that Cell had never found practical use until the PS3. The chip architecture in Watson is well-documented and in practical use and can therefore give an indication of what it's capable of.

Remember when...

Reggie said that they've been asked many people/analysts in a survey, what they are willing to pay for the Nintendo 3DS... It is between 300 and 400 dollars. And they came up with the price of $249.

Now I am gonna predict the same thing on the price unveiling event. Reggie would say that they had surveyed people about the price of Wii u, and the range is between 400 to 500 dollars.

And they will come up with the price of ..... $349

just my prediction.

Haha. I'd laugh my ass off if it happens like that. The sample population for such a survey would come from the land of bullshit.

Speaking of which, I assume Nintendo games will now cost $60. Which means that Zelda will launch at $60 and stay at $60 until two to three years after its release.

Nintendo's never designed a system that wasn't meant to be "affordable". Had the entire industry not fangasmed in unison at 3DS last E3, I think it'd be $199 right now.

$299

+$50 each if these functions are added

1) the tablet controller can be detchable, the touch screen panel is multi-touch and can function as ipad
2) 1080p upscale function to all Wii games
3) OLED mon
4) Blu-Ray play back function

I'd buy it for $299 with a good launch line up. I'd consider getting it at $350 if the launch line up is incredible.

I think it will be set at an agreeable price and buying a second controller will feel like having your balls removed with a rusty tin lid.

system looks interesting, but I'm concerned with how many controllers and shit I'll need. I mean, are games still going to be made for the wii controller? Does that come with it? What about the new remote?

wii motion/motion + doesn't interest me much, but I like the look of the new controller. Ideally I would like to have those games only, wonder how many of each type they will make.

Likely pack in would be a wiimote and a new fancy controller?
