Already bought GTA V in the Autumn Sale and Dragon's Dogma this week on GMG. Hoping for some deep discount on Alien: Isolation + DLC and/or Darkest Dungeon or this may be the first time in 4 years where I won't purchase anything in a Steam Sale.

Without the Daily Deals, it's not a "prepare your wallets" situation. The deals that are there aren't as good, many of the ones that show like 75% off now get price increases right before the sale just so they can show the huge discount for the whole time, it's just not as interesting. And where before I would check back every day and get hooked into buying more games because of the great deals, now there is no incentive - I'll do searches on day 1 for the games I want, and if they are cheap enough I may buy one or two and never return.

And this is worse now because we already had the Autumn sale, which has always had the same basic deals as the Winter sale. So I already got the games I'm interested in.

Yeah, with the autumn sale, there was no reason for me to come back each day to check out the sale thus resulting in me not buying a single game. The least they could do is have front page dailys that make us comeback.

Ubisoft seemed to have their own sale-within-a-sale last time, with various Assassin's Creed games going on sale only for Black Friday (or Black Friday weekend, don't remember). So that could happen again, perhaps.

Actually quite a few devs said that they were saving their big discounts for the Winter Sale. So you can probably expect larger discounts than the Autumn Sale

LOL my email inbox is filled with a bunch of slight discount from competing sites.
They know Steam will be king for the next week

I held out on the Autumn Sale.

The reckoning is upon us.

I don't think prices will be that different.
The ones that have better discounts will be the ones that didn't sell that much during the Autumn sale.

Hopefully. I liked that Ubisoft did that, it makes it more exciting.

The previous sale didn't have them but they haven't said if this one will or not, the removal of daily deals may just have been specific to this years exploration sale.

They said in advance that for the last sale and the christmas sale devs only should tell them a single discount. Dailys and flash sales are gone for good.

Without the dailies, I won't feel the pressure to just buy something because it has a time-limited discount.

At least i'll save a bunch of money this way.

I'm going to miss the daily and flash sales. I never cared for the meta shopping crafting games they did but I enjoyed the surprise of seeing what the new daily sales were. Now I'll probably just buy everything tomorrow afternoon and the thrill of the Steam sale will be gone.

Not to mention there's always a bunch of smaller sales that people overlook, even if just because they don't even know about the games.

Honestly no daily sales doesn't seem like a big loss. Instead of focusing on getting a minimum X percentage off, how about just look at if each purchase is worth the asking price, because spoilers: a lot of them will be.

To play devil's advocate, I'm glad they're gone. Compulsively checking Steam every N hours is tedious, there are tons of repeats (oh look here is Terraria on a flash sale for the 8th time) and the "thrill" that comes from ultimately buying a bunch of games I may or may not play is an empty one.

For me having to check back in on the sale everyday to see the new discounts made it more of an event. Without that this year I expect I'll look tomorrow, buy one or two games and then that'll be it. I'd be interested to see if there are actually less games bought on implulse this year.

I don't think I've bought a game from a Steam sale in nearly 2 years now. They're not as good as they used to be, and other sites often beat them in discounts. It's a shame Amazon is irrelevant now in that space. It used to be fun seeing which prices would be lower on any given day.

True it was fun checking after work what the new games were. Though a part of me is kind of glad everything is going up at the same time because it means I can just pick up what I want day one and not have a bunch of games in my cart waiting for the last day to see if they go down in price.

So nothing will be added during the course of the sale? Everything will go up at once and that's that?

This will be my first Winter Sale, so I'm anxious to see how good the prices are versus what I've been seeing. Not sure what I'll end up grabbing, but I'm up for Dark Forces, and the Jedi Knight titles. Maybe even a Quake bundle if they bring it back.

Most interested in retro games, like the Sega Classics compilations.

Last year I bought Metal Slug, now that is how you present old games in 2015.

Get the Jedi Knight on GoG, they work better.

Stuff got added later during the previous sale, even if just because some pubs/devs are late to actually turn them on.

I wish I had photoshopping skills so I can make a GoT-Hardhorne gif where SPOILERS
instead the White Walker King's face it's Gabe Newell's and he's raising all the new WW as the new discounted games. I would replace that lady Wildings' face with a discounted Undertale because that game is special and that lady was cool. Jon Snow and Tormund as wallets looking at Hardhorne from their row boat.

lol This is cute.

Looking to buy Endless Legend, Pillars of Eternity, Age of Empires II African Kingdoms, and the rest of the Rocket League DLC I don't already own.
