While writing "TOUGH" on his arm in marker. Dying.

Haha, I couldn't read his handwriting. Sterling gained a fan in me today, even if I don't care what his opinions on actual games are. Y'know what? Jim Sterling needs to make more videos about "him." Polygon, write about games, I guess. Jim Sterling? Do anything other than that.

What's the Elizabeth Berkley thing? Is it an inside joke, or just "I think she's hot"?

Jim Sterling is not exactly the bastion of journalism or even basic principles.

Did he say he was? I think he just wanted to make a video criticizing their video in a mocking way. Mission Accomplished.

I didn't watch the Sterling video but I give it a 2/10

You suck

Maybe my favorite part

Jim Sterling said:
upwards of $250 to $300 cash, American currency, so the economy, you know

Showgirls. It's like a 2 hour long inside joke, for all the world.

At least Jeff knows magic.

I didn't want to give him hits, specially because he likes to say that he has a Self-deprecation and satire in his videos/writings... but he still likes to be taken serious when he feels it matters : a badly done review or when he posts a yellow article.

But hey, I watched the video so I can say he still likes to do that.

Not in the video, but you kind to read his articles when he is mocking "Journalism Ho!" or that he says it should not take themselves seriously... only to the new day fighting the critics of a yellow article he wrote of the controversy of the week and a Vanquish review were he give it a low score because thought it should let you use meele indiscriminately.

So yeah, I don't think he is the right person to mock self importance. (although the "tough" tattoo part make me laugh)

Not really familiar with him to be honest, either than this video (which I thought was pretty funny) and his 10/10 review for Deadly Premonition. I never read Destructoid because it always seemed like a worse version of Kotaku. Recently though I have followed Max Scoville on twitter and he works at Destructoid which is where I got the link for the video from. Either way I still thought the video was funny and I thought it mocked the original Polygon video well. Only reason I posted it

Just saying, I could not personally enjoy 100% the video cause I know about Sterling BS antics.

They do have all the attention now. I bet when their website is finally launched, the first day the amount of hits they get will be amazing. Actually, pretty smart move, this.

Funny thing is people are talking about them when they wouldn't be.

They're laughing alright.

Do you really think they went into this thinking:
"Yeah people will say it's bad and make fun of us. But we'll get attention!"

I'm thinking they hoped for a slightly different reaction.

Video is hysterically bad, but ended up being a great marketing tool for Polygon (no such thing as bad publicity). All on Microsoft's dime too.

Didn't know that but oh all the pieces just suddenly fucking click now don't they. I like it when the jigsaw puzzle of someone's deeply personal psyche and motivations come into terrifyingly clear focus.

I used to listen to him him on the Joystiq podcast, where he'd occasionally discuss his family and he seemed perfectly at home with being a video games guy.

I'm not sure what prompted his heel turn.

Guys, don't hate. Those are the most humble, hard working, sincere people. Take it easy and watch these guys doing what they're going to do. They're trying to take the subject of gaming very seriously.

Or that's what the guys from the Verge said.

So incredibly well said.

Its funny that the introspection gives out juuuuuuuuust when its needed the most.

That hits on a major problem the enthusiast press has -- brain drain. Developers recognize actual talent and quickly scoop up the most interesting voices (Luke Smith, Shawn Elliott, Jeff Green, Eric Wolpaw, etc.) This leaves the media side as a perpetual B-team. And as we know, former journos rarely, if ever, go back after becoming devs.

I've worried about the ramifications of this alot. Like, how many of them are relied upon for information/game purchase advice, and by how many gamers?

I think it's kinda funny how those here espousing this faux outrage are also people who seem to follow everyone they're bitching about on Twitter.

It's like they want to be at the forefront of bitching about them as soon as they do anything that neatly fits into the narrative they've crafted for them.
didn't the company you work for pay for the documentary?

wouldn't be the first time you used gaf to defend your corporate interests.
