Prey (2017) |OT| Trust no one. Not even your shelf

I'm just gonna say this:

THIS GAME IS FUCKING AMAZING! The tension, the atmosphere, the gameplay, the story..... HOLY SHIT!

I'm always on the edge of my seat when I enter a new room because of the mimicks.

I felt something similar when I first played Bioshock back in 2007. I'm only 4 hours in, but, holy shit! I'M LOVING IT!

This game is phenomenal. To me, this is way better than Dishonored 2, which I was kind of disappointed by me somewhat. This is pretty much System Shock 3 for me, the real deal. With smart additions and expansions. Hell of a game. I think it's really being slept on for some reason.

I'm surprised people feel tension with the mimics. I'm on hard and it's pretty easy to tell what objects are mimics.

I think the game is a lot of fun and well made, but I don't feel much tension due to the enemies. The phantoms at least chase you really hard when they spot you, so that can be tense.

I finished yesterday.

Got to the end with 59 spare parts, 23 suit repais and so many EMP chargers, Typhoon Lures, Recyclers and ammo for all the guns. I was waaay too conservative with this one lol

Also, played 30h of it and never fought a
Nightmare
now I kinda want to

Loved it, Arkane is king in game design focused on players freedom and actions. Really awesome stuff.

BUT, story-wise
I cant believe how bad all the endings were. The whole final segment is bad when it comes to story really, there is no build up or anything for a conclusion. I dont get how they did so much top notch writing for side-quests, emails, transcribers and stuff like that, but the main story itself is weak in some points

There were hints for the final twist given out throught the whole game.

yeah, and I got them all, thats not the build up for the final Im talking. I mean that after doing some epic shit during the playthrough, the final hour or so is boring backtracking and then, it just ends. And nothing changes between the two main endings

Finished this over the weekend. It was a thoroughly ok game for me. Good, but nothing great. I found the combat and enemy types to be pretty dull, so it kind of was just a recycling simulator for most of it. Some really good story sidequests and the voice-acting was very good. The twist at the end was kind of anticlimactic. Solid 7 game.

Regarding the ending, I wonder
how much of what happened in the sim, actually took place? We know that Alex survived, I'm assuming the other 4 did two. Did they just end up dying later? Also, is the current Typhon like a part of Morgan, or a randomly created one with Morgan's memories?

Unfortunally it was mainly a technical issue I believe. If the 20mns backtracking with 5 or 6 loading screens was just a 3 minutes epic run through the giant typhoon in all these places you now now very well so you can give the final blow, it would have been a very different pacing and more like an actual climax.

Got half way through a no Neuromod run and got a little frustrated by the lack of abilities, well mostly lack of inventory space. So I started another playthrough, no trophy aspirations, nightmare difficulty. Difficulty isn't bad at all, although most combat encounters are won through preperation, not reaction, so that's not surprising.

Tip for ya'll, prioritise finding Grant Lockwood, I guess I never got around to it on my first run -- on completion of that quest you'll get a second gen propulsion chip, combined with the first gen you get a massive double jump jet boost, combine thst even further with speed and jump height neuromods and you're more agile than Doom-guy. I've been dumping all Typhon material into making every Neuromod I can, and while Psychoshock is still probably the best go-to offensive tool, there's an incredibly vast and dense toolset at your disposal.

One of the endings sheds light on this.
If you escape in Alex's escape pod before doing any of the other stuff, Alex expresses disappointment that you just left. Then you see a flash of the Looking Glass Visor interface and Alex says "this isn't the one." An offscreen voice (probably Mikhalia's operator) says "Start over." The implication is that you're a random typhon, and if you decide to flee the station, you're a reject.

Might be a silly question but I've put about 20 hours in and only just bought my first typhoon power (phsychoshock). My question is how the hell do you "fire" it.

On PS4 . Just reached crew quarters and phantoms keep scaring the shit out of me.

Best game I've played on PS4 for me

L2 after selecting it from the attack wheel.

Hmm, If that's the case.
Was the original Morgan consumed or something?

It's implied the real Morgan died sometime after the Talos 1 incident considering the simulation is based on her memories. Though we can't know for sure if she's really dead.

In any case. The ending gives enough material for Arkane to go with in case they make a sequel

One of the flashbacks shows Morgan's hands getting engulfed in typhon matter, so I guess he was consumed. He also seems to be speaking to the player-controlled typhon out of the Corral (as everyone consumed by the typhons gets their consciousness stored there), disturbing the simulation.

Is there anything to suggest that the
Talos 1 incident actually happened at all? Why couldn't the whole thing have been cooked up from scratch to test the Typhon?

That's why I was thinking
that was the 'real' Morgan. Just one that was consumed. But it looks like it doesn't fit because of the early game over. Unless what they meant with start over, was to just start the memory process over again and not a new Typhon.

Hmm didn't think about that. Probably should have paid more attention.

It should be released on June 27th. Next month
Cool. I don't like what they did with the cover though.

Artwork is extremely small and way too dark all over the place. Here's original:

I played for 7 hours today, time just flew. I'm now 10 hours into my second run. I missed so much the first time it's unreal, I didn't even meet the
imposter chef
. At this point I'm far more progressed than by the end of my first run, I have way more mods installed, my weapons are much more upgraded and I'm not constantly out of resources on 30hp. I've only died a couple of times Vs a million last time and sections that took me 30 minutes before took a few minutes this time. One of the biggest helps has been knowing that you can disable quests and only track one, it has meant I'm not lost all the time. Overall I'm enjoying it so much more, this is the first time I've ever replayed a game I hated so much but I'm glad I did, after finishing it I knew I had played it very wrong which is the only reason I gave it a second chance.

Yeah... can't say I'm a fan of the cover.

But regardless, I mostly look forward to the concept art that's gonna come. Especially Fred Augis's art in the artbook

Kind of a late game question:
So I just got the recording of my dad (fuck that guy) telling Dahl (fuck that guy too) to kill everyone on board, and I still have the mission to go disable to tech guy outside. As soon as I exit the airlock, I get that 15-minute warning that Dahl is luring me to life support with. So, can I leave the tech guy for now; will that change anything? Cuz fighting through the asshole operators and typhon in space to hunt around for the tech is frustrating (especially on a timer for a separate event); I'd much rather just get back in through the cargo bay and head to life support.

That's all I needed, thanks.

Most games wouldn't make me even question that, but there's been enough awesome interaction between characters and objectives that it makes me wonder. Also I completely understand how the game is as buggy as it is.

I bought it for 39,99 pounds, 2 weeks later is 28

why?

Given the amount of Typhon I'm wiping out, including multiple (mid game enemy)
nightmares
and now with (mid-late story event)
military operators from dahl
I'm shocked there can still be more.

What about hostile NPCs and broken quest timers? How long must we wait to get a proper fix goddamnit? I want to fucking finish this game at least once with no broken quest etc. Damn.

IIRC, the hostile NPCs were already fixed. You need to load an earlier save, I believe.
Not working. I even replayed huge chunk of the game (3-4 hours) to see if it was fixed and nope, it was not. I can upload my save files if some of you guys want to test them.

Wait, the Nightmare quests were supposed to stop after Copy Protection?
I thought there was an achievement connected to the quest that deactivates the Nightmare?

Just started this game a few days ago, after the target sale. So happy about the pro patch! it seemed kinda choppy so I hope that's fixed.

Anyway.. I have to say the way it starts off is dope to me!!

Spoilers for the intros of both Prey and Deus Ex: Mankind Divided (though you don't have to read/watch that second part if you don't want DX spoilers), but Tom Francis (the guy who made Gunpoint) did a neat write-up/video about why Prey's intro is great at easing people into the world of the game, and why Mankind Divided is... less so. It's pretty interesting.

Try sending a PM with your save file to jessbethesda on the subreddit, I'm sure she's willing to help

Technically, before the patch, you get "The Nightmare is Hunting You" after completing Copy Protection even if you didn't install any Typhon neuromods.

The patch fixes that problem

Yea, not familiar with him. But makes sense that you/ people recognize it as something special. I got straight gta vibes from it. Don't know why (maybe the music?) but I got a few chills..

Say..
is that big guy from the intro the dude from Marco Polo and Dr. Strange
?
