...the issues are glaring to anyone with half a brain in a few hours, wouldn't have minding if it was early access, or a beta, but FFS, this is a full priced release.

If it walks like a beta, and talks like a beta...

Think of it as early access, or better yet: late access to WMD2.

You have the opportunity to shape the final game!

After reading a lot at the official forums and at GTP I think (if I was still playing the game, that is) I'd avoid any substantial tinkering or career progress until at least the first patch. SMS are advising career wipes and deleting car setups as 'workarounds' right now for a whole host of issues and I've got a bad feeling that hard resets are going to be required at some point. You all *might* be setting up your cars and tweaking your FFB with fundamentally broken code. Do you think all of those changes will still fit in with whatever changes SMS are currently making to the tyres, FFB, suspension etc? Seems risky to me. You might be completely wasting your time.

Hell, SMS are making fundamental changes to the career weather in the next patch, so it's not unreasonable to surmise that all career progress might have to be wiped. If there's one thing gamers hate it's having their progress reset and having to start again from scratch. I think I'd be inclined to find some driveable car and track combos and just quick race on defaults until the first patch lands. The problems seem deeply ingrained (if they were an easy fix they wouldn't be in the release code, right?) and SMS's current advice about wiping progress and deleting setups might just be a portent of something mandatory in the near future.

Then again, maybe it's nothing. Enjoy!

Wiping your entire career progress would be a very risky (if not insane) move imo. A lot of people have already invested a lot of time in the career despite all the bugs (some have already got the Zero to Hero lifetime goal!) and I imagine losing all of that would drive them nuts.

I'm sure I read on the XBO forum that the game was doing it on that platform anyway.

edit : Yup

Can you not? What about in cloud storage? Or does it automatically overwrite with the latest save?

What I meant is that you don't have any control over how and when the saves are sent to the cloud (and you can't store your saves on an USB drive). There's a chance you may recover older saves if you delete local data and force the Xbox to download from the cloud but it's like playing Russian roulette. You don't know if the console has already uploaded broken saves or not.

Ah that sucks. I always set mine to only manually update on both Steam and PS4. I don't play enough on my Xbox to have bothered trying to fiddle with that setting so assumed it would be the same in that you can just set it to not auto upload.

I'd like to know who tested this game, so I can kick them in the backside, the issues are glaring to anyone with half a brain in a few hours

This is the exact reason why I don't believe that it was all down to poor testing. The bugs are constantly slapping you in the face from the intro movie onwards.

There's no way SMS didn't realise how messed up this game is.

It's not the fault of those testing.

It's the fault of those unwilling to act on the results of the testing. Those that decided to push it out of the door and fix it later.

The intro in the PS4 version was just hilarious. I actually started thinking if my video output is broken. I didn't get far with the game before I gave it back to a friend, but I remember that the championship intros & videos after winning a series also suffered from being too bright/washed out/generally in low quality.

I've submitted my first ever Steam refund request. Hopefully it'll go through.

I'll return to Project Cars 2 when they finish it and it's ready for release.

They refunded mine with no questions after more than three hours of play (maybe 4+ hours) when the cut-off is normally two hours, but maybe if the reason is that it constantly crashes or is too buggy then they let you play for longer. How many hours had you logged?

They have honored every single one of my manual refund requests, even those many hours into the game. If the refund reason is real and justified (it's usually been technical issues for me), it'll go through. Or at least that has been my experience.

Console marketplaces really need to get up to scratch with refunds, having to go cap in hand to customer support and that being dependent on what sort of customer support agent you get means it's a bit of a lottery.

Also, the game is convinced I am German whenever I play online, not that there is anything wrong with being German, I am just not sure why it thinks I am.

Are you applying for a refund then?

Someone should track steamspy for owned pCARS2 copies. I've only checked on Saturday and it showed "in ~50,000 libraries", might go down over the next few days because of refunds going by this thread.

Looking at the reception at Racedepartment however, it's been mostly positive. Especially weird since pCARS1 gets the least love and most hate out of all sims there. A thread for gathering questions to ask Ian Bell in an upcoming interview went so bad (I'd say 80% troll or aggressive/dismissive questions), that this interview never came to be. But people there seem to like pCARS2 for the most part. Maybe they look less at the bugs because they're used to active development and small bug patches after every major patch(patches that beed patches I mean) from most other sims.

Bugger. They refused my refund request because my play time was over two hours.

Six hours is quite a lot I guess. What reason did you give for wanting a refund? I ticked the 'buggy/crashes' box, or whatever it was.

The pCARS 2 launch didn't even get an official mention at RD. Ian Bell alluded to this in the recent YouTube interview. Bad blood there for some reason, it seems.

I'm really curious about total sales as well, and how they compare to pCARS. I fear the bounce rate might be higher this time around too.

I wrote that it was buggy. Maybe I should have done what you did.

Well hopefully the PC version will be getting as many patches as a ship full of clumsy pirates, and quickly. There's a great game buried in there somewhere and I can't wait to play it in its final form.

I guess so. I would likely be very happy with a patched up version but that's some distance away.

I could have used the money for something else in the meantime.

Oh well, got Forza to play from midnight.

Presuming there is 'Bad blood' it usually happens when one person threatens to sue the owners of RD over posts created by some of its userbase back when pCARS was an exciting investment opportunity. Things went from handbags at ten paces to cease and desist letters and a shut down (IIRC) before sanity prevailed and things were smoothed over with peace, love and free pCARS games and forgotten.

Just like VirtualR and Bsimracing (and others), RD can select to run whatever stories they wish.

I can't say I'm not tempted after parking pCARS 2 up, despite my reservations. The car porn is hard to resist. Maybe later, in a sale.

I think I'll stick with AC for now and keep a close eye on pCARS 2 improvement progress. I don't seem to have much time for gaming right now anyway.

But Winter Is Coming.

Nothing did then, for several days nothing also not on AC's Ferrari pack release day... and then suddenly lots if news-threads. And they had a 15 pages pCARS2 sim discussion monday after that. Ian Bell wrote in it to, nobody called him out and his comment got 2 likes, zero downvotes(or "hahas", "angry smiley" etc.)

I'm tempted as well but I know as soon as I get on one of the few tracks with weather/TOD cycles, one auto tire change (from dry to wet) later I'll be regretting my decision.

That and the Drivatars. I'm waiting for a deep sale this time around while keeping an eye on the DLC model.

I'm happy enough setting up random custom races in PCars 2 and also dabbling in Assetto Corsa/R3E for now. I also need to find some time to delve into F1 2017 properly.

I doubt this is showing only for me, but in certain weather conditions, namely hazy or rainy, the backfire of surrounding cars in races illuminates my vehicle like crazy.

Its a really small thing, but it's kind of annoying.

Of course. Just seems churlish for a sim racing site to pretend that a new sim racer wasn't launching, that's all.

'First pass' doesn't fill me with the greatest of confidence. It must be a hard thing to fix.

Does this list address the most pressing issues? I'm out of touch now with what's what.
Didn't you ask for a refund? You should know whether it affects the reasons why yo asked for a refund.

It's probably harder to simulate that than in, let's say, a WRC game where other cars aren't on the track at the same time and the game can easily adjust your finishing position based on your pace. But yeah, anything will be better than current state in which you have to wait at least 15 minutes (probably longer in series with long qualifying sessions) to ensure you won't start dead last.

The list of fixes is hard to judge, because the PC version and the console version seem to be in different states. But it's worrying there's no mention of stuff like career mode or setup improvements.

How about this until it's actually fixed; lock times for practice and qualifying when the player quits? It's not ideal, but it would remove the stupidity of them pulling an extra 5+ seconds out of their ass.

I mean, I guess you can just adjust the quali duration to the equivalent of a handful of laps so that you can finish the session without spending an eternity.

Do we know if this applies to all the tracks? From what I've seen in my short time with the game the lowest allowed minimum was 15 minutes. There are some tracks where a laptime is 40-50 seconds so you can easily be done in half that time and then you have to wait for 7 or 8 minutes for the session to end.

You can't change the length of qualifying in career.

Well this is worse, I don't understand why you can change the length of the race but not qualifying.

Why is everybody discussing workarounds? Isn't the patch live for everybody? Does it work?

Well this is worse, I don't understand why you can change the length of the race but not qualifying.
Probably because you can skip to end of session whenever you want.

I was joking when I said it would only be for the pc version on the last page. Is it actually true 😂?

Of course it is!

Just so all the console peeps are aware, this patch 1.1.3 is only ever going to see the light of day on PC. Consoles are going to have to wait until "Patch 2.0" at a later date (which presumably will have these fixes rolled into it as well).

Not really. I requested a refund based on the overall shoddy state of the game on release because you WMD2 tossers couldn't do your friggin' jobs properly as you were too busy sucking SMS ass*. I didn't have a hit list of specific or personal bugbears, but Ian Bell has referred to (paraphrasing) 'a few serious issues and several minor ones' so I was wondering if these serious ones were on the list. I guess career progress being wiped and tunes not being saved are a couple of these? Actually, does anyone know what SMS/Ian Bell consider these serious issues to be?

*I'm kidding :p
