Wait what? You’re saying the SSDs with a heat sink won’t fit?
No I'm saying Just the external style. Like the ElecGear. The ones that sandwich into the M2 will be fine

This style won't be compatible from the launch version. The slim we have to wait and see

Wow just looked up gamestop buy back offers for PS5. Just over $200 and selling them for $400.

I'm not selling on FB. Don't want to deal with people, especially trying to talk me down, holding cash lol, or someone buying it and calling me telling me it doesn't work.

Looks like I'll find someone to give it to who really wants one.

They must have gotten in a ton of trades or are anticipating. It was $400 when the Pro was announced.

Here's the equation you have to solve. If gamestop buys your ps5 at $250, is it a guarantee they'll be able to sell it at $400? Nope. On top of that, they need to refurbish the console if needed, offer a 30 day money back warranty on the console, pay the cost of holding the inventory, pay staff, hold onto a potentially depreciating asset, etc.

So now the ideal scenario for Gamestop is that they buy your PS5 for $250 and sell it for $400 the same day and the purchaser keeps the ps5 longer than the 30 day warranty. So after 31 days they pocket a cool $150. Actually slightly less if you account for inflation. Now if the purchaser returns the part due to an issue, then we have huge problems. They have to ship it to their maintenance team to source a part and repair the console. That means they need to pay for 2 way shipping, pay for the labor of the maintenance guy who fixes it, pay for the parts.

What happens if they find no buyer going into the holiday season and Sony runs a sale? Now they have to drop the price of the used console to make their price more competitive. As a result the profit margin is dropped and there's still a scenario where they don't sell. I haven't even touched on the scenario where people knowingly trade in defective products like drifting controllers or defective consoles whose issues are not immediately apparent.

I don't know why people complain about Gamestop's or other pawn shops trade-in values. They have to offer a level of service and carry a margin of risk that the average FB marketplace user doesn't bear. Anyone can be a jackass and sell a broken console of FB. The buyer has no recourse and is screwed. The buyer has no money back guarantee. No level of protection for their purchase, etc. Gamestop has it's place in the market and so does FB marketplace. The more expensive something is, the less likely I am to buy it on FB marketplace.

Although they suck overall, this specific use is valuable imo. I'll take a bit less and not risk being bothered by dealing with a stranger.

I hope someone can give us some tech analysis for the weekend. Don't want "oh wow it looks nicer" or just regurgitating some specs which is what guys like parris, Greg and Geoff will probably do.

That’s not what Sony said. It was either in this thread or the one about the plates, someone asked Sony support and they said it couldn’t be hot swapped.
You're confusing hot swapping and switching from one to another. You can switch but you need to register the drive with the new console. You can't go back and forth without a re-register which requires online

Pro coming in a few days but no store has had any Disc Drive in stock for weeks (at least bot for a reasonable price)
WTF is you doing Sony
I don't get how the rest of the world doesn't have stock yet since it has been available in the US for weeks now. Every big retailer has them. With the way they usually supply it would have hit other territories by now

ebay sellers can go to hell ,149 for disc drive MRP 99 pounds ,not as if you can't play games on the pro if you havent got a disc drive ,you bum chums 😡
Exactly. Just play a digital version through plus and wait for stock at retail. There's almost 100 games at this point. You can find an upgraded game to play that won't cost much or you already have

Yes. The only change would be external heatsink users. The launch compatible ones won't fit but it's possible the slim will of its shaped the same.
So I have an sn850x in an external heatsink case in my launch PS5, do I need to order a different heatsink ? It's fully removable and was only bought to improve thermals.

is this confirmed anywhere?
Which part? You're fine with any heatsink unless it is this style I linked below

This style is not compatible with the slim and pro. We don't know yet if the slim version is compatible with the Pro.

$265 regular value or $292 if you're Pro is decent. I would go with them instead of dealing with the usual scammers on Marketplace or other pages.

Too bad the US doesn't have stores like CeX.

oh interesting I didn't even realize that style of heatsink existed. Mine is the rectangular block type and that's what I thought you were referring to, made me worried for a second
