No it's not diminishing returns. We're simply in a transition state now. We haven't even started the gen. Usually things get better 2-3 years into the gen.

That is true, I just still think people aren't going to be blown away. Hell, I wasn't blown away this gen. Yeah, shit like TLOU2 looks noticeably better than TLOU1, but not in a "wow factor" way to me.

That's just me though, and, as I've said, I just don't care that much about graphics anymore and spend a decent amount of time on older games, indies and Nintendo games. To be honest, I wish Sony was going the MS route of having most things be cross gen for a while as I would hold off on upgrading longer as I'm fine playing the current gen version of things.
