Easy peasy, no? Dark-Alex did this so that he wouldn't feel pressured to release a new CFW every time Sony makes a pointless, incremental update that's really only a cover for a security update (which obviously wouldn't interest CFW users).

Guys, I've read the OP, but am still a little confused on how to upgrade to 5.00 M33-6 from M33 3.6 (what I'm currently using). Could someone run me through instructions?

In the read me it says something about putting Sony update in the same folder named 500.PBP? What update? I'll also need to do the little text edit thing above as I'll be needing to play PSN versions of FFVII and MGS on the PSP.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try to find easy installer "Plug USB to your PSP then run the software on pc and your psp will be updated" that's how i updated mine

About the text thingy ignore the whole post on how to do it at the start cause it look long and scary

All what you do is plug your psp->access your files and edit a Text file from 500 to 551 and that's it

Its not as complicated as you think (I hope) I can't remember if you have to update to 3.71 M33 first, then 5.00 M33. Mejilan & Facless Master should be able to confirm.

Anyway, download the Sony 5.00 FW from here & rename the file to 500.PBP
Then download the Dark_AleX 5.00 M33-6 from here & extract the contents of the archive.
There should be an folder called UPDATE in the archive. Copy 500.PBP file you downloaded earlier into this folder.
Connect your PSP to your PC and now copy the UPDATE folder to the PSP/GAME folder of your PSPs Memory Stick.

anyone know if the full version of Holy Invasion of Privacy Badman works on 5.00 M33-6 without messing around with versions.txt or npdecrypter?

I know the demo does.

I have the latest CFW M-33, and I can't get FFVII working. I know about the version.txt workaround, but in my boot menu I don't see an option called "Enable version.txt" anywhere. I really want to play it on the go. And MGS. ;_;

Is there a way to access the PSN store on CFW?

I wanted to check the PS1 games and buy Holy Invasion but I am blocked from the store.

I might just go back to OFW, I have no real use for CFW anymore.

Uhm you should be able to access and download things fine from the PSN on CFW. Try re-installing the firmware, or upgrading if you haven't already. Something definitely isn't right..

I see that doing this involves messing with the flash on the psp so I have to ask, does this work with the PSP-3000?

Isn't the 3000 still "unhackable?"

This is mostly for those with CFW (and when I last checked the 3000 couldn't go to CFW?).

But it's mostly safe, you're just editing the flash file to make it say it's 5.50 (instead of 5.00) for the firmware check of FF7 to bypass with an "okay."

Princess Skittles said:

You're probably on M33-1/2/3/4/5. Update to -6, which should let you into the store.

You're in FL, last I checked. If you do get a PSP that's modable, I could send you my pandora battery to help you mod it if you want.

I've got a psp running 5.50 (updated without my knowing  )

Is this still moddable?

if not, is there a way to downgrade? I saw some video on youtube of a guy downgrading his PSP's firmware, but I don't know if it was legit or not.

Yeah you can downgrade to 5.03. First check if you have a TA-88v3 motherboard, cause those cannot' be hacked right now. If you're safe you'll need to use Pandoras battery and mmsx to downgrade.

little question, i have a psp with 5.00 m33 firmware but i can't access the store. i probably need to install the m33-6 patch but i can't find it on the net, same with a guide to install it.

help please!

What's mmsx?

I think I've got a Pandora battery, I bought the system second-hand from a friend and he said he had hacked it, but then upgraded it and didn't bother hacking. And even before my firmware had been upgraded to 5.50 I tried to hack the psp, maybe I was doing something wrong, but the Pandora battery didn't seem to work. Are they like "one use only" type of things?

You can use ChickenHEN on any PSP with 5.03 and install CFW.

With OFW 5.50 you can use a save game exploit. Currently the Japanese version of Monster Hunter Freedom 2 and the English version of Need for Speed: Underground work. You load up the savegame and then use the CFW enabler (currently at 3.60).

So really, depending on what OFW you have, any PSP is able to run CFW now, be it 5.00 m-33 or 5.50 GEN B/MHU.

Ok, for you (us) hold outs that don't want to ugprade to 5.50 Gen-B or 5.50 MHU, I figured out a way to regain PSN access on 5.00 M33-6.

1) Do the version.txt trick I posted a few pages ago.
2) Download the Media Go app from Sony, and install it.
3) Run Media Go, sign in using your normal PSN credentials.
4) Profit.

Long story short. Sony have blocked the version.txt spoof trick for direct PSN access (but have not blocked PSN access from all CFWs). Also, they have NOT blocked the version.txt spoof trick for running games (UMD or DLC) requiring newer firmwares. And I can only deduce that they have not blocked this spoof trick for Media Go PSN access.

I tested it by downloading a demo. No issues.
Not sure if I'm going to bite on Badman though. $20 for a non-retail release seems extreme, to me.

Awesome. No OSX version of Media Go. And even if there was I'm not sure I'd wanna bother jumping through all those hoops. What's the fucking point in blocking store access? If I'm visiting the store chances are it's to buy something.

Can you buy Badman on PS3 and transfer it to a PSP running 5.0 M33-6? I know one time I wasn't able to transfer one of my PSX games due to CFW issues.

I tested it by downloading a demo. No issues.

It is extreme. Hard to justify when high-end XBLA and PSN games rarely cost that much.

Taken from DCEMUuk site:

"The MMSX is a universal "unbricker" class MMS (Magic Memory
Stick) that (when combined with a Pandora Class Battery), will install
CFW (Custom Firmware) 4.01 M33-2 onto any PSP, phat or slim.
When using the MMSX it does not matter what firmware, custom or
official, your PSP is currently running. There is no need to
downgrade. If you have firmware 3.52 or higher, you must have a
Pandora’s Class Battery. If your PSP's firmware is lower than 3.52
there are other ways to install CFW, but that will not be discussed in
this guide and the use of a MMSX is still highly recommended. The
MMSX uses DC7, which allows one to regenerate the ID Storage on
your PSP. This means that if the ID Storage on your PSP is
completely wiped out or is corrupted that you will be able to fully
restore it. The MMSX does not just install CFW 4.01 M33-2; it comes
loaded with additional features"

Don't think that works anymore. I've read that you need to be signed in both on the PS3, and the PSP. And obviously, the PSP is out. As to jumping through hoops. It's pretty easy. I had everything done in about 5 minutes.

if you bought a stick from a 3rd party seller on amazon, tit was an awesome deal, ad now when you use it, the performance is suspect, then yeah, it's probably fake.

Try using NPDecryptor to strip it of its DRM.
Only works if you actually purchased it. ;p

Edit - Regarding the version.txt trick. Did you version it up to 5.50 or 5.51? I hear 5.51 is required.

The version.txt trick I did it with 5.51.

EDIT: NPD did it! thanks! :D

Make sure you do a full system restart when switching Memory Sticks. In my experience, tThe PSP has a tendency to not read things properly when you switch them w/o rebooting, especially if the different sticks are of differing capacities.

Tried still wont see the games. When I first dumped a few of my PSP games onto it, it showed them. I played Rockband for awhile then quit and now it wont show the games anymore, just like the 2 fake sony memory sticks I have. Getting a collection of this crap :/

oh rockband LOL. There's a thing where it makes your games "disappear".

you need to create a blank text file. and put it inside the PSP > GAME Folder.

Create a GAME folder under PSP directory and the game should come back.

EDIT: I saved the file as ".txt" - Don't give it a name.

Bah, I sold my original PSP-1000 about 6 months ago because I was a bit strapped for cash, but now I'm good again money wise, bought a PSP 2000, and it can't be fully hacked, so I'm going to return it and hopefully can get a full refund or hopefully they have an old 1000 laying around waiting to be bought.

Wanted to chime in and say that 5.03GEN-A and 5.50GEN-B have been great for me so far with no issues of note.

On the pandora front, is there any reason to bother with one anymore unless you have an older PSP that needs to be de-bricked and/or downgraded from >5.03 official firmware?

It will be interesting to see what becomes of the 5.50 Medal of Honor exploit. I've got a copy of the source code and I may go poking around with it over the weekend.

Perhaps now would be a good time for Dark Alex to release a new patch/CFW.

Yes. From the latest description on Custom Firmware Enabler 3.60:

Benefit from all the features of Custom Firmware M33 on your PSP-2000 TA-088v3 and/or PSP-3000. Note: you must be running firmware 5.03 for ChickHEN and CFWEnabler to work; firmware 5.50+ is not supported.

If you have a 3000 and OFW 5.50 you can do the savegame hack. If you have a 3000 that's on OFW 5.51 then you're SOL.

You can't flash a full CFW on any PSP 3000. If you hadn't upgraded to 5.50, you would have been able to load a temporary CFW-like environment which features much of the functionality, but gets wiped when you reset; thus requiring you to redo it upon next power on.
