PSP Custom Firmware Thread

Anyone know what firmware Dissidia is going to require?

I must have that game!

I think the demo required Official Firmware 5.50, so I would assume the actual game would require the same unless a firmware update is offered before it's released.

Ugh, Persona PSP is going to require official firmware 5.55? So, right now it pretty much screws all CFW users who want to play it, but especially those of us who can't flash the memory (88v3 2000 owners and 3000 owners). Unfortunately I'm in the camp that is dieing to play this, but also has to use ChickHEN at the moment.

Crap. Well, I guess the only thing I was using my PSP to do up to this point was play my copy of Persona 2 on the go. I guess I'll have to use my PS3 now. Is there any similarity between ripped to PSP PSone game saves and PS3 emulated game saves? :lol

At the rate things are going, I will probably get a PSP-3000 in the future just because of Sony's movement to DD.

I think a PSP with OFW would compliment my CFW PSP nicely.

Can anyone give me a summary of the newest CFW? I've been out of the loop for a while, I have 5.00 M33-6, but apparently DA is gone? There's some 5.50 CFW that bricks PSP??? Any help? Thanks.

I apologise for the likely repeated question, but I dug my psp up the other day and was wondering if homebrew development is at the point where I can put custom firmware on my psp without a hacked battery. My current firmware is 3.72.

I was on 5.00 M33-6, but just upgraded to 5.50 GEN-B. It worked just fine.

don't know if this is the right thread for this question or not but here goes.

any input on using the gps unit, and how it stacks up feature wise to a stand alone unit?

lets say i put game playing aside, and i could whatever version psp needed from ebay?

i found google searching to be confusing in that it seems the gps unit was not brought over the to the us and i don't see allot of activity lately in gps software delopment.

i don't understand all the technical jargon, so for all i know what has been released thus far in the community still works fine, etc.

i was just going to use a machine that would play music, videos, and i would use the gps while camping and stuff. this could possibly be a cheaper and more versatile setup over a standalone gps and ipod?

thanks!
I picked up the psp gps unit a while back and went through the trouble of ripping some maps from google for it. Don't get it. I don't know what it's like with the official software but satelite acquisition was slow, the interface was confusing and trying to get poi info into the maps was rough. You can find standalone gps units for around 100 bucks now.

All right, someone PM'd me and suggested I use chickhen to install cfw on my psp 1002, but everytime I get to the step where I open the tiff file my psp shuts down. I've tried it about fifty times with no luck at all. Does anyone have any tips for getting this to work?

Theme = Original

and there are several modified versions of the ChickHEN tiff you can try too (try the last 2)

PSP Slim 2K using 5.00 M33-6, for the life of me I can't get Xenogears to work. I figured it was my own discs, so I tried an alternative, and I get the exact same issue. I can only figure that it has something to do with the ?POPS emulator? (considering that the more recent versions have been confirmed to work), so how can I make sure I'm using the latest version?

Still having the same problems... Just shuts down everytime. I've followed all of the steps, so many times.

Woo got it to work. Thanks for the help Faceless Master and neoxdonut

So now that I have CFW, what are are the must-have applications for my PSP?

Any suggestions? I already have a snes emulator, looking for some other useful apps.

Are there any themes worth downloading? I really like the default theme with the animated wave background, is there anything that looks better?

Well, there are a lot of themes. Depends on your taste. You can check some here.

You can still use the animated background, if you don´t like the provided wallpaper.

I have a little battery problem.
I've bought a dual purpose battery (normal and pandora with a button to change mode).
Used it to put CFW on my PSP, using it as second battery, no problem.
Problem now is, even when fully charged, either in normal or pandora mode, the PSP won't start. If someone can help me out, it would be greatly appreciated, because I don't have a clue what to do to fix it.

So I'm about to go on a trip and dug out the wife's PSP to update it for her. Turns out hers is still on 3.51 m33. What's the easiest way to upgrade hers? I tried to pop in my memory stick from my 5.00 m33 to update her but it didn't seem to like the updater.

Not sure if this is the right thread to ask about Memory Sticks and such but since it's the only regularly active PSP thread I'll ask anyway. :lol

So I decided to stick with my launch PSP unit for the time being (PSP Go's price is exorbitant) and probably upgrade to a 3000 model once it's been hacked for good. Anyway, I'm looking for a larger capacity MS now and today I stumbled upon an 8GB Sony MS Pro Duo Mark II at €32. My current MS is 4gigs but it doesn't have Mark II imprinted on it. After a quick search on Google I found out that Mark II sticks simply support higher write speeds and I was wondering if there will be any tangible difference in loading times on PSP.

You probably won't notice a difference in speed for anything PSP related. Since you both are looking for new sticks, have you considered going up to a 16 or 32 gig by way of utilizing micro SD cards and a Photofast adapter? I just went that route a few weeks ago and couldn't be happier. 32 gigs cost me $64 compared to that being the price of a 16 gig memory stick pro duo.

Been gone from the scene for a bit. Currently running 4.01... what do I need to do to upgrade to the most current cfw? A little confused!

Hehe I just posted something similar but I'm at 3.51 and nobody has responded yet.

5.50 GEN-A Build 4: http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/1745 (Install FIRST! Important!)
5.50 GEN-B update: http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/1764 (only AFTER installing above successfully!)

- Trying GEN-B update without GEN-A will brick your PSP
- Disable any custom themes first (revert to default)
- Disable any active plugins before updating
- Put folder containing update files in GAME folder
- Have AC charger plugged in when you run, for safety
- Enjoy latest CFW

I saw it asked on the other page and I was wondering the same thing..... apparently Dissida runs on 5.00 m33 according to several of the PSP forums

I haven't had a PSP in well over a year but I was wondering if a Pandora is still needed to downgrade or if a new way has been developed.

Would love to see how far CFW has come but I'd like to know how much work it's going to be.

Any word on a 5.55 or whatever CFW for Persona PSP?

a dev in pspgen forums commented about this. He said kernel for 5.55 is same as 5.50 so there is no need for a custom firmware. The newer games are doing some other kind of check.

I was hoping to find something that would upgrade me to just 5.00 m33-6 for now. What's the easiest way to just go to that from 3.51 m33?

It would probably also be wise for any CFW devs, even if they have new solutions now, to wait for the launch of the Go before releasing anything further. This is likely the plan.

Just download CFW 5.00 M33-6 and copy the UPDATE folder to your PSP's GAME folder, and either download OFW 5.00 yourself or let it download it for you via wifi.

See the weird thing is, I have the 5.00 M33-6 update on my PSP and I just popped the memory stick in to hers and it failed to run it and gave me an error code. Almost like I couldn't shoot straight up to 5.00 m33.

So when you have custom can you go back to normal? how? i'll probably wait till theres something i really want (persona 3) but it seems annoying having to wait to be able to play the latest games/demos. i hardly use the psp anyway and most games seem to have an install option now.

Strange. The readme file doesn't mention anything about upgrading to an intermediary CFW when coming from 3.51, and my brother had a pretty old CFW when he upgraded to 5.00 M33-6 (could've been 3.71, though). I guess in this case you could try upgrading to something in the middle and then to 5.00 M33-6.

Found something while digging and thought I'd post here in case anyone else had issues sometime in the future. It sounds like in order to upgrade to 3.71m33, you need a minimum of 3.52m33 so that would seem like a reason why I can't go from 3.51 directly to 5.00. Gonna try going from 3.51 to 3.52, then to 3.71 then to 5.00

Yeah, well I want to play Persona PSP when I buy it from the PSN store. Dark_Alex or whoever is sitting on their ass needs to get a 5.55 or whatever the latest OFW CFW out pronto or release a method for people to play these new games since Sony is patching workarounds. *sigh*

I just bought a 3.95fw and have a Pandora/Magic MS in the mail. If I upgrade to 5.51fw will I still be able to downgrade when the tools arrive in about a week?

Anyone care to assist me when they have the chance? I borrowed a PSP from my friend to play Dissidia, but he has custom firmware on it, so I need to update it in order to use it for Dissidia. That being said, I know absolutely nothing about the PSP CFW scene, so I'm gonna need a lot of help. :lol

I can provide any information you need, just tell me how to find it first. I think it's a PSP-2000, since it says PSP 2001 on the bar code.

Check out Phreak47's post above. That's the surest way to get to 5.50.

As for 5.55... well, hopefully someone figures something out. I guess we'll have some more answers when Persona comes out.

It does appear I need 5.50...but how do I tell which PSP I have? It says the 2000 may have two different motherboards, and installing the wrong one = brick... X.x

EDIT: Oh, I found the system settings. It has 5.02 GEN-A (Full). Does this help figure out which motherboard this one has? I'm googling around to try and find the answer, but it can't hurt to ask experts.

That's firmware, not hardware. :lol

Take the battery out of your PSP. Look at the -#000 on the back. What does it say?

As for which 2000 model... Google.

you have to go to 3.52 m33, then 3.52 m33-4, then you can go straight to 5.00 m33
