so i caved and picked up a go, is it possible to share the games I download from psn to my cfw psp1000? I'm currently still cfw 5.0 m33-6 but willing to go to gen-b if needed. I have a ps3 if that matters.

Yeah, just log in to your PSN account on your PSP Go. You can have your account active on 5 PSPs simultaneously. If you're selling your old PSP then deactivate it through Account Management so you don't lose one of those five slots.

Has anyone heard of this site? I've been searching for already made pandora battery's and came this site. I was wondering if its trustworthy or not.
Not sure which one you'd need specifically but Deal Extreme sell's them and for pretty cheap too with free shipping. I know a few people who have bought from there no problems. i'm buying a psp replacement LCD and a few other things from there as well.

They do take awhile to ship though as it's from HK usually around 10business days.

I love PSP homebrew. It is a emotional roller coaster, just when you think they hit a wall. BAM!! Somebody steps up and makes it rain.

what's the word on getting a custom xmb (cxmb) on your PSP (5.50 genb2). I see that it can be done, but is it quite risky? or no? I've seen some cool custom xmbs and think it would be interesting to try it.

Been sportin' CXMB almost since the day I updated to 5.50 Gen-B. The 5.50 Gen-B2 update didn't break anything. There are two 5.50 Gen patches for CXMB. I was using the first, then traded up to the second. Both worked exactly as I recall CXMB working years ago when I last used it. (Only recently started using it again).

nice...good to know. I'm gonna look around and get that set-up tonight

edit: yeah, quite easy to set-up.....here's the video I used (for anyone else that may be interested). It's quite easy to get set-up.

Hmmm. I could have sworn it eventually became possible to make a Pandora even on an earlier 2000. The 2000 revision definitely had some new security, and it was likely a step in the direction they took with the later 2000s and 3000s, but it clearly was not sufficient!

It's possible to make a Pandora on early 2000 models, as I did it to mine sometime early 2008.

That's a major reason. Plus of course pre-slims already allow installation of Linux. Hacking platforms to run alternative OS is a big driver for the hackers. (Allegedly someone got Windows XP running on an iPhone!)

Eh, it would only take about 6 hours on a good connection. Not really forever.

Hey guys I'm on 5.00 M33 and I actually bought a PSP game today that needs at least 5.55 (I think) what's the current best way to go apparently M33 isn't around anymore?

Scan the past few pages to learn how to upgrade to 5.50 Gen-A, patch yourself up to 5.50 Gen-B2, and use Yoshihiro's new 5.55 / 6.00 Game Decryptor to get those evil new generation of encrypted games to run on 5.50 CFW. It's not horribly complicated. Previous posts of mine within the past few days have most of the links and tutorials you'll need.

If it was hackable, it would have been by now. I don't think they're going to crack the PS3. In fact it will be the first console that I know of that hasn't been hacked. Not even the slightest hint of being able to hack it has happened.

Miroslav, all PSP 1000s are susceptible to Pandora batteries. Use one to reinstall CFW.
There are no software-only exploits working on 6.00, so the hardware (Pandora) solution is the only one currently available to you.

--------------------------------

Haven't tested these yet, but these are supposed to be the 6.00 and 6.10 version.txt files.

So are the version.txt universal? I can just copy those on my MS? I tought I had to change every 550 and 5.50 to 6.00 and 600 on *my* file.

Mejilan

Putting them on your mem stick will do absolutely nothing.
You're to access the version.txt on your flash0, disable the read-only property if you haven't already, edit the file, and replace the contents of your file with that of one of the two I posted. Save, of course, then exit. And don't forget to enable the version.txt functionality, if you haven't already.

They are just text files. Don't copy it on your MS, it should to be in flash0:/vsh/etc/

Edit
too late -.-

Is this the right one?

Uhh... No. That's not a CFW installer. That's a CXMB patch for a CFW you'll probably never install/need. Like I said, scan the last couple of pages for the post where I detail the 5.00 M33 -> 5.50 Gen update path, with links.

Sorry, my question wasn't clear. I know about the procedure, I was wondering if I can copy the content of the file you posted to my version.txt or I have to modify my own. I ask that because there are some subtle differences between the one you posted and mine.

You can copy and paste what I posted directly into whatever you have now.
The ones I posted were dumped straight from OFW 6.00 and OFW 6.10.

Can anyone confirm which version.txt is running the Peace Walker demo ok? I've tried the 5.55 one (on Gen-B2) and no dice so far.

5.55 worked just fine for a friend of mine. What error are you getting?
You can always try the 6.00 and 6.10 ones I posted earlier.

Did you try booting into the recovery menu and disabling the game plugin functionality (advanced/advanced configuration, IIRC)?

Aha! That was it. I disabled the plugins, but not that setting. Cheers!

I think the OP should be updated with that upgrading guide :)

Also, I think it was yesterday that someone uploaded an article to n4g.com regarding a mod chip for the ps3, since that's the latest topic here. Things are happening, as they always are, but personally, I don't think much will come of any of this unless further down the road, it'll be possible to run isos off the HDD. Bluray disc burners aren't exactly cheap nor readily available everywhere. and I've never seen the actual discs for sale anywhere either.

And very few devs/publishers complain *that* much about console piracy these days anyway. Ubisoft seems content enough regarding the piracy situation at least.

Yeah, that would be awesome. I'm also at 5.00 M33-6 since "it just works," but when I have time some weekend (yeah, right), I'd like to get to the latest firmware so I can download Thexder Neo and lose many hours. :)

Alrighty I'm on 5.50 GENB, did the versions.txt thing and I can connect to the store, downloaded Fieldrunners but neither that nor UMD games will load now. Getting a game could not be started 80020148.

Any ideas :/

So I have a spare battery, and I want to make a Pandora battery. I'm on GEN-B, and I'll be updating to OFW for now.

I went into the recovery menu, hit Make Pandora Battery, and it said OK.

I reboot, and it boots up (with the Pandora battery) like normal.

My question is: how do I know I've successfully made the Pandora battery? Should it boot up like it was a normal battery?

I don't want to update and then find out my spare battery wasn't Pandora...ized.

Well a properly made Pandora will act like a regular battery as well as functioning as a Pandora.

Try holding the "L" button while booting and see if takes you to a Pandora menu...

Hmmm, thanks.

The power light comes on, and eventually it just shuts off. Should I be able to get into the Pandora menu with my regular memory stick inserted?

Not sure what to do now... :(

Yes

Sounds like you need to make your memory stick a "magic" memory stick. Follow this guide on how to do that.

Sorry, I think I worded that question poorly.

What I meant to ask is: can I get into the Pandora menu without putting any special software on my memory stick?

I haven't put any pandora related software on my stick. It has a few of my games on it and that's it.

What UMD games are you trying to run? If the games are 5.55 and you did decryptor and you still get that error, check to see if plain modules and execute boot.bin are disabled. You can check by going to recovery menu and then do advanced, then advanced configuration. If they are already off then I really have no clue

To be able to use the Pandora as such you need to have CFW on the stick ready to be installed. So yes, special files.

It's at the max 200MB. It's worth it for peace of mind.

OK, so it sounds like just making the battery to use at a later date isn't enough. I take it I can only put these pandora files on a memory stick if it's in a CFW'd PSP.

To clarify: I can't just make the battery now and worry about those files on my memory stick later?

EDIT: and thanks for the help, much appreciated

I'd say no, just do it now.

A Pandora battery is useless without a matched memory stick.
The functionality built into 5.50 Gen merely toggles the Pandora (service mode) flag on a battery that can double as a service mode battery. Having a service mode battery without a matched memory stick is completely useless.

I don't exactly have it memorized, but that looks like the error you would get trying to run an ecrypted (5.55/6.00) UMD/game on a system with OFW/CFW prior to 5.55. If it's a new game, you need to use Yoshihiro's app (Game Decryptor V2) to decrypt a file from the UMD's ISO. I posted a pretty handy tutorial a few pages ago. It's pretty straight forward.

OK, cool. I'll see if I can figure out that guide.

How do people use these Pandora batteries to install CFW on a PSP with OFW? When they buy the battery do they also come with a memory stick loaded with whatever files they need? Or do they need to know someone with a CFW PSP to create the memory stick?

Mejilan

Assuming a battery CAN be turned into a Pandora (they started releasing Pandora proof batteries some time ago, IIRC), turning one into a Pandora is fairly trivial. Setting up the files on a memory stick and matching it to that Pandora, also trivial.

There are any number of tutorials out there to point you in the right direction, some in this very thread's OP!
